Richard Dawkins: I Will Arrest Pope Benedict XVI

April 11, 2010 Richard Dawkins: I Will Arrest Pope Benedict XVI Marc Horne

Atheist campaigner Richard Dawkins RICHARD DAWKINS, the atheist campaigner, is planning a legal ambush to have the Pope arrested during his state visit to Britain “for crimes against humanity”.

Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the atheist author, have asked human rights lawyers to produce a case for charging Pope Benedict XVI over his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic church.

The pair believe they can exploit the same legal principle used to arrest Augusto Pinochet, the late Chilean dictator, when he visited Britain in 1998.

The Pope was embroiled in new controversy this weekend over a letter he signed arguing that the “good of the universal church” should be considered against the defrocking of an American priest who committed sex offences against two boys. It was dated 1985, when he was in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which deals with sex abuse cases.

Hitchens has done a heck of a lot more than you as far as educating the world about Islam. He is a great writer, read his books, they are fantastic. Looking forward to his new one coming out in June.

He has actually traveled all around the middle east, he’s seen it. I’ve been to a few spots in the Muslim world, but nothing like Hitchens.

Dawkins seems to be stretching things even from his own point of view. Is any Briton authorized to be able to carry out a “citizens arrest” on an alleged international malefactor? Can I capture Osama Bin Ladin dead or alive if he shows up in my backyard?

You don’t know me.

Watch it Dawkins.

A centurion's ear is liable to get sliced off in the dust up.

The Pope has diplomatic immunity, he is head of the Vatican State.

I don’t have any books or reports. They aren’t going to do the trick.

I am a Christian. I pray to I worship the living God. I give to further the gospel. And that is what is going to destroy Islam.

Historically, at every turn, Islam is defeated by Christianity. It is the Christians and Christian nations and cultures that have kept Islam at bay. We will continue to fight it until the last day.

Atheists can’t defeat Islam. Christians can.

How can you possibly be appalled by this Pope? He is brilliant, holy and humble.

If you are too young or too uninformed to see and understand what is happening right now, perhaps you should join the other excatholics on this thread and leave the Church for a while.

Pope Benedict XVI has spoken Truth with love and it is very disturbing to all the little gods and godessas in the world today who prefer their own truth subject to the love, cause, mood or whim of the day.

Do you think this world could have come to this state without the confusion and chaos created by millions of people pursuing their interests untethered to truth or reality?

Without regard to the RC Church's problems, professor Dawkins is not the disinterested scientist but a fanatical anti-religious bigot of the lowest order.

Hitchens is also an aggressive atheist bigot. Yes, he speaks against Islam. So what? He speaks against all religions. I think some clergyman rapped his knuckles when he was just a wee lad and he hasn't gotten over it yet. I guess he got all wee wee'd up, to borrow an expression from the 0.

Maybe because my parish had 2 dangerous pedophiles, and my high school had 1.

I don’t trust this man, he covered up and hid abuses.

If you want to call him brilliant, holy and humble, go ahead, I have my opinion. I respect yours, you should respect mine.

Have you ever traveled to the muslim world? Or any other place populated by non christian religions? I’ve been there, in the thick of it all. I grew up Catholic, but, I see the folly in all religions. It’s my opinion of course, you can spam me all you want, but I believe you are welcome to your own opinion. I find religion to be flawed and harmful.

But, make no mistake, I am no fan of Islam, nor is Hitchens, read his works, its illuminating.

Who is next on your list, Charles Nelson Reilly?”

I was going to support Soupy Sales for president until I heard that he was dead. Now I am for Drew Carey.

the “good of the universal church” should be considered

I knew this was going to be the rationale. How is that working out for you?

As sad as it is to see the criminal acts— and the criminal covering up that a few in leadership positions did, I am still very happy and thankful to be Catholic. The acts of a small percentage of sinful men have nothing to do with the truth and worth of the Eucharist. The sacraments and my journey to Heaven are all that really matter.

I could never let the actions of criminals and idiots drive me away from Christ’s Church. Peter himself was a fool, a coward, and a denier at times; yet the other Apostles hung in there and continued to accept him as their leader. Even John, who stood alone without any of the other Apostles at the desolate foot of the cross, was back with the others by Pentecost. It must have been hard for him, having heard Peter deny Christ and having seen Peter run away when Christ needed him most. But John persevered. He remembered Christ’s words about love and forgiveness and redemption.

Actually yes. I think North Carolina is the only state that doesn't allow citizen's arrest, but they have something similar.

Of course he is wanted 'dead or alive' so......

Either way you get the reward.

I don’t have any books or reports.

Oh, come now. Let's compare your empty portfolio to the great Chris Hitchens:

  1. God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything
  2. The Portable Atheist: Essential Readings for the Nonbeliever
  3. Does God Exist? (DVD)
  4. The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice

If you haven't written such "educational" and profane works, how can you compare your own worthless life to CH who thinks Isalm is bad? /sarc

;-)
