IRS May Withhold Tax Refunds To Enforce Health Insurance Mandate
By Martin Vaughan Dow Jones Newswires
WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The Internal Revenue Service won't audit you to make sure you have purchased health insurance under provisions of the new health-care law--but it may withhold your tax refund if you can't demonstrate that you are insured, an IRS official said Thursday.
Steven T. Miller, IRS Deputy Commissioner for Services and Enforcement, made the comments during a hearing of the Senate Finance Committee. He echoed earlier comments by IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman that questions about health coverage won't in and of themselves lead to an IRS audit.
"There are tools we can use. We obviously will be notifying folks [for whom there is no record of health insurance] that we have these questions," said Miller. "We have a refund offset mechanism in order to enforce that provision."
Republicans on the Finance Committee including Sens. Charles Grassley of Iowa and Pat Roberts of Kansas, questioned whether the IRS will even have the ability to make sure the insurance mandate is enforced.
Under the new law, penalties for failure to purchase health insurance apply starting in 2014. By 2016, the penalty for lacking qualifying insurance is the greater of $695 per year, or 2.5% of household income up to $2,085.

May withhold? I would bet on it.
May? They are counting on it.
There you go...said this 3 weeks ago. And before long they’re be withholding your Healthcare Premium so you’ll never even see that money in your paycheck.
They gave this to IRS for a reason...
Now these aren’t taxes....
Ha! Ha!...F’ em....I owed!
That sounds perfectly illegal to me! But then, with all the crooks in government today, we shouldn’t be surprised.
Just claim 15 exempts on your W-4.
You will just owe the fine as well, right?
And, in order to pay your health insurance premiums, you MAY not pay them.
They’ll put a levy on your paycheck. They do it all the time. Don’t show proof of insurance, and the levy will start.
Ve have vays of making you comply.
Gee, I can arrange it so that I never need a tax refund.
That is exactly how to do this...owe them.
This boondoggle has got to be struck down or repealed if we’re going to salvage the middle class in this country.
Anthony Weiner - “look at my mouth, the IRS will not be enforcing the insurance requirement”
We need to put these bastards on record:
“May I punch you square in that mouth if it becomes apparent that you’re lying, sir?”
So...arrange it so you get NO tax refunds.
