Public confidence in government is at one of the lowest points in a half century, according to a survey from the Pew Research Center. Nearly 8 in 10 Americans say they don't trust the federal government and have little faith it can solve America's ills, the survey found.
The survey illustrates the ominous situation President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party face as they struggle to maintain their comfortable congressional majorities in this fall's elections. Midterm prospects are typically tough for the party in power. Add a toxic environment like this and lots of incumbent Democrats could be out of work.

What’s up with that?
Has the “fifth American” been living in a cave or something?
More than that I wonder why Americans voted this lying, evil, traitorous president and congress into power in the first place.
Americans don’t trust the gubmint? DO TELL
Poll: 4 out of 5 Americans don’t trust Washington.
It’s that low hey. 98% would be more like it.
Someone trusts Washington?
4/5 don’t trust the govt yet the Obama gets 45% approval. Ugh! Wake up America!
We can figure out who the 20% are who do trust govt- people who cheered when the WTC came down, who liked that Ayers bombed the pentagon, who think Haliburton is the reason the war in Iraq was started, and those who support ACORN.
Americans (and rightly) have always distrusted government. THAT sentiment is what ought to keep politicians honest.
NOW, more than ever Americans distrust government for a further reason. WE see the politicians as NOT being American is the same sense as the guy next door or the guy the slaving in the cubicle next to me...etc.
The social/educational/economic ‘divide’ that previously distinguished Joe Shmoe voter from the man he sent to Washington has become a yawning abyss beyond which voters have NO LONGER have any significance to politicians except at election time.
The only thing I can conceive that has corrupted the natural and wholesome distrust Americans have for Politicians is that the MSM has so far and so consistently misrepresented issues, (often candidates as well) that Americans have been shamelessly duped into considering politicians who would otherwise have NO credibility.
The Dummy Down public education industry has preconditioned young people so that they never question or challenge what is presented to them in the MSM.
VOILA public opinion (i.e. Presidential candidates) bought and paid for by the highest bidder!!
And the other one doesn't trust pollsters...
8 out of 10 don’t trust government. But 4 of those 8 are getting government handouts. Maybe they don’t trust the government to give them enough.
I would guess a whole bunch of folks who now wish they hadn’t. Maybe next election, they’ll look deeper than a cliche about hope and change.
can’t be true... Nancy said the Tea Partiers were astroturf!
The most feared statement in the US - Hi, I am from the government and I am here to help. Flee run to the hills or the woods and hide. The US Government helping is an oxymoron. Ronald Reagan was also right Government is not the Solution Government is the Problem. Instead of pursuing the socialist/marxist/fascist agenda make cuts in taxes, relax regulations, create opportunities for businesses to create jobs. Cut standards that hinder production. Cut Government Spending. Cut the size of Government .
but this administration believes in creating one crisis after another. Autoglopes - suspending the constitution, the Congress and the courts, ruling by executive decrees - totalarianism - utopia - one world government - one world currency - one world health system. Here is the plan. Workers of the World Unite - Post America.
But it can be stopped in November 2010, rid the house and senate of the Obamabots
That 20% will trust the government as long as their welfare checks keep rolling in. Cut those off and you’d hear some screaming.
Wait until the Social Security checks start bouncing,
