Barack Obama plays eight times more golf than George W Bush
London Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | April 19, 2010 | Toby Harnden

President Barack Obama has played golf 32 times since he took office, eight times more than his predecessor George W. Bush - who was mocked by the Left for his fondness for the game - did in his entire presidency.

Mr Obama's latest outing on the links came on Sunday, when an opportunity opened up on his schedule after flying bans over most of northern and central Europe forced him to cancel his trip to Krakow to attend the funeral of Lech Kaczynski, the Polish president.

Mr Bush was shown in the Michael Moore film Fahrenheit 9/11 condemning "terrorist killers" in the Middle East when asked a question on the golf course in 2002. Barely pausing for breath, he added: "Thank you. Now watch this drive."

Mr Bush later gave up golf, saying in a 2008 interview: "I don't want to some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander-in-chief playing golf... And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal."

The golfing figures were compiled by Mark Knoller of CBS Radio, the unofficial White House statistician.

Mr Obama's Sunday golf game prompted anger in Poland, where the Warsaw Business Post carried a headline reading: "Obama goes golfing instead of attending Kaczynskis' funeral".

He is a poser; he shows such elaborate respect by bowing from the waist to various potentates; then runs out on the links rather than showing some self restraint even when unable to attend an incredibly tragic funeral. There was a thread yesterday that the Poles had taken note of his golfing during their mourning.

“Bush must have played only 4 times in 8 years.”

I think the headline is dead wrong. The article says:
“President Barack Obama has played golf 32 times since he took office, eight times more than his predecessor George W. Bush”

The headline states 8 times more, but I believe the writer meant that Obama had played 32 times and GWB played 24 times, which equals 8 more times as opposed to 8 times as much etc. I’ve seen enough shots of Bush on the golf course that it simply cannot be that he only played 4 times during his 8 years in the WH.

So using the correct figures, Obama has played 1-1/3 times as much golf as GWB did over his entire presidency. Obama’s been in office 15 months, GWB was in for 96, hence at his current rate, Obama would play 205 times over 8 years or 8.5 times as much as Bush. What complicates matters is if GWB played all his golf in only 2 years, then Obama’s rate of play to date is only slightly more than double that of GWB.

If Obama were simply doing a good job in office, I would not begrudge him hitting the links every other week, which is what his current average implies. Playing during the Polish president’s funeral was in bad form, but otherwise, the sheer amount of time likely wasn’t any different than the amount spent by Reagan chopping wood. The difference is that Reagan was cutting taxes and winning the Cold War against the Soviets all while enhancing America’s status as a world power.

Obama in contrast has engineered the most irresponsible fiscal policy ever seen in the nation’s history, diminished U.S. stature in the eyes of many world leaders (enemies and allies alike), and is deeply immersed in cramming through a leftist domestic agenda that is detested by a majority of the public. It’s wishful thinking that we could get him to reverse course by taking away his golf privileges. Indeed, given what other bad ideas he might seek to foist upon us were his golf time freed up, we might consider encouraging him to hit the links even more.

I suppose that he is trying to find something he can succeed at, other than a community organizer.(As if he were a success there.) But he is still a fm fn failure.
Do you hear that mr. mt suit? You are a failure. A FN FAILURE.

I remember when the MSM spent a couple days cursing GWB for jogging. “He should spend less time jogging and more time running the country!!”.
Double standard? Say it ain’t so...

When I see this kind of article, I always wonder how many soldiers, sailors and Marines funerals he has been to now that he is a war time president. I seem to recall that Pres. Bush was asked that quite a bit.
