Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.) on Monday night became the first and only Republican to sign onto a bill pushed by President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats to blunt the impact of a January Supreme Court ruling that critics fear could open wide the floodgates to vast corporate spending.
Castle, who has long supported restrictions on the flow of money into political campaigns, joined Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) Monday in issuing a statement bemoaning the ruling and praising the proposed legislative fix hashed out by the White House, Van Hollen and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.).
The courts 5-4 decision in a case brought by the conservative non-profit group Citizens United against the Federal Election Commission overturned decades of law barring corporations and unions from paying to run advertisements attacking or supporting candidates.
Republicans largely celebrated the ruling as a victory for free speech, while most Democrats, including Obama, decried it as giving unprecedented power to corporations, in particular, to influence elections.
In their Monday statement, Castle and Van Hollen said the decision enables larger financial interests to drown out the voices of ordinary citizens, allows foreign corporations to spend money through their domestic subsidiaries, and permits major recipients of taxpayer dollars to funnel these funds into political activities. And they asserted their bill, which has yet to be introduced will promote openness in government and compel disclosure of the money that is being used to finance elections. We believe the American people have the right to know who is spending money to influence our democracy.
The bill, which Castle will co-sponsor, would restrict the types of companies that could air campaign ads and require those that did to disclose precisely how much they spent on such ads and possibly force their CEOs to appear in them.

.. following in the finest GoP Rino tradition.. of course.
He’s a ‘genuine’ replacement for Biden, whose seat he is seeking in November.
This guy is a genuine POS.
He’s supposedly a lineal descendant of Benjamin Franklin.
Then he’s a disgrace to his family heritage.
We get what we vote for. There is a mainstream conservative candidate in the race.
Drop it. All the campaign finance “fixes” do is add more corruption into the system.
Just ask Juan McVain.
The Rat candidate is a local county councilman, Chris Coons. Not much of a chance against Castle, but Castle remains a disappointment. He voted for “Cap & Tax”, too!
So was Ben Franklin's own son, the Loyalist.
You got that right. Check out the following info on this RINO: http://removerinos.com/CastleM.html
In some ways, I feel that if we don’t support Christine O’Donnell this primary (I mean SUPPORT her...as in good donations), we lose the right to keep complaining about these guys. But you can’t give to everybody, I guess...
