Five or more pirate suspects are being brought to the United States for prosecution, a federal law enforcement official said Tuesday.
The suspects will arrive in the United States by the end of the week, The official told The Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the transfer is still under way.
U.S. officials had said last week that as many as 20 suspected pirates held on U.S. ships off the coast of Somalia might soon be headed to the U.S. for prosecution.
The government's decision to bring the suspected pirates to the United States comes amid heated debate among U.S. and other international agencies over where piracy suspects should be sent for trial. Earlier this month Kenya began refusing to take piracy suspects, saying the trials were straining its courts.

Between his "catch and release" policy, the on-again -- off-again -- on-again terrorism show trials, and the decision to close -- not close -- close Gitmo, the Wee Wee is demonstrating some outstanding leadership qualities
They’ll think twice before they do that again. Heh.
Why aren’t the ‘rats taking these miscreants to the World Court?
Court appointed lawyers, full panoply of U. S. Constitutional rights, on and on. Just hang ‘em from the yard arm! Aaarghhg!
No, why are they not just “taking them out” on the high seas?
Thereby, we avoid all these costly and unnecessary trials.
We know they did it - they were caught in the act. Shoot the bastards and let the sharks have them for lunch. Case closed.
I think they should be sent to meet their maker. How many millions of dollars does it cost us to bring them here for trial?
Piracy is a death sentence crime. It’s an act of war by a non-uniformed combatant. Therefore they have no rights under the geneva convention and should be shot at the scene of the attack.
These guys don’t need a trial. They need a bullet.
Heads on pikes back on the beaches of Somalia would be a nice final touch.
You really have to wonder how far this sort of thing will go. In a sense its a crime against commerce and not worthy of the millions of taxpayer dollars. Our responsibility should end with reasonable protection of shipping lanes.
What’s next? New York appearance dates for speeding tickets in Sri Lanka?
It's a fairly long video but it offers insight to the whole " law enforcement " approach and the problems associated with it.
These trials will be a joke and I expect one or more of these guys will get acquitted on some technicality and be sent home with new suits and pocket money to a heroes welcome in Somalia. I wouldn’t even be surprised if these pirates would get bail and be walking our streets courtesy of the ACLU and liberal donors.
Sure would have saved a lot of trouble and money if they had just been shot. Bullets are cheaper than lawyers.
I’d rather hang them on shore in Somalia. No trial, just take them in and hang them at the docks. A little of that and there’d be a marked decrease in piracy.
they are gonna put on a big elaborate show trial in New York and then turn around and say “See, we can handle trying KSM here...”
..."don't end up like me...yeah pirating on the high seas seems so romantic, but is right for you...think of all the people who will un-friend you on facebook...blah blah blah..."
Feed 'em to the sharks!
Marandize them and give them an ACLU lawyer .
Take no prisoners - Ought to be ROE.
Pirates being brought here for prosecution? Isn’t it standard procedure for pirates to receive “justice” on the spot?
What happened to hanging them at sea? Knocks the recidivism rate to zero.
In the olden days, pirates were staked out in the sea at low tide and left to wait for high tide. That IS cruel (and these days, more than unusual). Just a simple hanging will suffice.
What you do with them is load them up on a plane and drop them out over a suspected pirate safehouse so they crash through the ceiling DOA just to let them know - We know where you are.
This sketch makes Hussein Obama look like a complete moron. ...
It's interesting that a simple sketch could be so accurate.
In my opinion, it presents the Wee Wee in the most flattering manner
It's difficult to capture incompetency, corruption, insanity, laziness and stupidity in a single portrait.
Trial at sea and make them walk the plank.
They need to keep the docket at the World Court clear for the prosecution of Bush, Cheney, Rove, Palin, Limbaugh, Beck,...
Angela Davis and Bill Ayers were “redeemed” in the eyes of the New Democrat establishment and today they are taxpayer funded teachers.
Precisely. If an armed vessel is caught attempting to hijack a commercial ship, it should be sunk with all hands aboard.
The survivors? Drop some chum in the water with them and leave them there.
Sould have fed them to the sharks when we had a chance, as well!
Hope you recognized my sarcasm.
Right, I understood your sarcasm but pointed out the grain of truth in your satire.
Mildred Gillars, a Nazi propagandist who was convicted of treason for her WWII broadcasts (nicknamed Axis Sally but I think she was on the air as “midge” or something), taught at a private school in the US after her sentence.
It is disgusting.
Exactly, everyone on a “pirate” ship must be assumed to be a co-conspirator!!
Gotcha! We agree.
Oh great! 20 more mouths to feed and house at $30,000 bucks a year each! Just shoot the bastards and feed them to the fishes!
