Anyone dumb enough to go to Mexico should win the Darwin Award.

Monterrey is the major industrial center of Mexico. This is not good for business.

My wife was born in a town north of Monterrey, and being the token gringo of the family, I’m finding it harder and harder to justify taking the risk of heading down there for a visit to the Summer house...

Sure as heck not going to take my truck with Texas plates on it across the border...That’s asking for it, big time...

This whole situation is out of control, and there is absolutely nothing anyone, or any government can do about it but make it worse...

They won, we’ve lost...Nothing can be done about it now...When we had a chance to get on top of it when it was in its infancy, we might have had a chance...

Too bad, I really liked going down there...

Can’t even go down to Cancun without an increased risk of assault, kidnapping or being killed...

Those resorts down there were kinda nice too...

Good thing we didn’t get suckered into buying a timeshare deal...

Yep.
I’ve been working in Monterrey, SLP and Nueva Laredo for years.

One piece of advice came to me lately:
When stopped by gunmen, STOP.
They DO NOT make mistakes.
They are looking for somebody specific and they know who it is.
If you try to drive off, you’ll lose.

This was from a local who is pretty smart, but I’m still inclined to run like hell.

What about Jalisco or Veracruz? I’m thinking of going down
to look at arpas (harps, as used by mariachis) and hoping to
bring one home. Not worth my life though..

Presidente Calderon has tried to portray this situation as win win for everyone.Less criminals, less trash on the streets and less “jefes”.

He is like the socialist crackheads here who drink themselves into a coma because it is such a shame that the Blacks in the inner city ghettos are eating each other alive.Yet all it is is nature taking its course and isn’t it nice for all these undesirables to kill each other and abort their kids?

It is not a specific instance of one ethic group or of one class of people erasing itself as a positive social change for everyone else involved. No when stuff like that happens it starts destroying the nation from the inside out.

Have we had a stronger black and more conservative lower-middle class going, chances are we would never have faced the emergence of another underclass.

I can’t say.
I’m in San Luis Potosi now and it’s pretty safe, since it’s not a coveted drug route. There are rumors that it’s one of the “hands off” cities because of family members.

Been to La Pesca but the last several months have passed up several chances to go again. Friends tell me that even with the naval base and their patrols a few business's are starting to pay “protection”.

My best friend and her husband retired to Mexico about 3 years ago. They are Dutch citizens and live in a small town in the mountains outside of Cuernavaca. They either are very dumb or in denial, they just drove to Texas from Mexico in a brand new pick up truck and are leaving Sat. morning to drive back. They have given up inviting us to come and visit them. Not gonna happen.
