I have been stopped and asked for ID - at an immigration checkpoint in the middle of TX.

Not sure how I feel about that - on the one hand, I can see why they were doing it; on the other, it was definitely, “Your papers, please...”

It wasn’t racial, though - I am about as German-looking as it gets. They were stopping everyone on the interstate.

I live in Sierra Vista Arizona. My daughters boyfriend is full blooded mexican(he was born here. When we go on outings we have to go through border patrol checkpoints...they never have asked him for his “papers” The only question they ask (I get asked too) is are you an american citizen. I have never heard of an incident of so called racial profiling down here.

As for Customs Agents.....that is another story.

Well, they asked me for ID - I showed it to them, they asked where I was born, and they waved me on.

But that was a classic “Your papers, please...” stop. And it was the only point of the stop - there was no traffic issue or anything.

And it was on I-10, in the middle of the state - which I thought odd. Maybe it is a smuggling corridor or something.

Probably.

I was on 95 cutting over to 10 last summer heading for California.

Talk about the middle of nowhere. There was a BP check point where at least 8 BP guys were manning. They were great. I must have sat there and chatted with them for about 30 min. I asked them who did they piss off to get stuck there? They got a kick out of that...They loved my tan.

I have been treated with nothing but respect everytime I go through a check point. And some of the guys are clients of mine.

I would prefer a law that would require checking the immigration status of people asking for government services, ticketed at traffic stops, voting, etc. - that is, some moment when there is a legitimate reason for it, and not just at random because they may have a foreign accent.

I was thinking that's how it was going to be...random stops. They have to have a reason...i.e., traffic stop, etc.. It is not just a random stopping people.

Permission for passage? As in permission for passage across the border from one sovereign nation to another? Isn’t identification normally required to cross a border? The intent for a National ID doesn’t matter when the circumstances you yourself listed would require people to carry the card with them at all times. My argument is not in favor of an ID card - my argument is that Democrats didn’t have the slightest problem requiring citizens to carry ID but they have the audacity to bristle when people who have no right to enter our country at all are asked to show ID. It is a smokescreen, if you are legal - show your license or whatever - not a big deal. If you are not legal - go home and stay there.

Good points...

I now have to show ID when I buy Sudafed...no joke. I cannot get Sudafed off the counter....I have to go to the pharamcy area and show my ID AND sign forms.

Illegal Aliens, and their Hispano-Racist and Hispanic Ku Klux Klan supporters.....are so obsessed with having ID because it means Illegal Aliens will be deported. Illegal Aliens need to go...and go 30 years ago

You just gave a perfect example: you have to show ID to buy Sudafed, why? so they can document your identity to make sure you do not make too many purchases - like a meth-head. You’re innocent, but still you have to be inconvenienced because of the crimes of others. Same with legal Hispanics in AZ - you might be innocent, but you have to be inconvenienced because other people are breaking the law. It works that way sometimes.

“I now have to show ID when I buy Sudafed...no joke. I cannot get Sudafed off the counter....I have to go to the pharamcy area and show my ID AND sign forms.”

That reminds me of an article sent out by NAFBPO today.
It seems cocaine users are having their skin rot off because the coke is so cut with levamisole.
The ingredient in Sudafed is now brought in by the pound via Mexico where they get it shipped in from China.

DEA Warning: Cocaine Laced With Skin Damaging Drug
Chicago Doctors See More Patients With Purple Skin Lesions, Low White Blood Cell Counts

Hospitals all over Chicago are seeing something strange. Patients whose skin is turning purple, then dying. In the worst cases, body parts could fall off. CBS 2’s Suzanne LeMignot reports the DEA thinks it knows why.

Drug Enforcement Administration Supervisory Chemist Camala Dubach says there has been a tremendous increase in drug dealers using levamisole, used as a dewormer in livestock, in cocaine production.

Just four years ago, levamisole was found in only 7 percent of the cocaine tested by the DEA. Now, the number has increased dramatically.

Right here in Chicago, 82 percent of the cocaine, in just the first four months of this year, was found to have levamisole.

“Yes, and not just locally, in Chicago or Illinois as well. We cover 12 other states and we’re seeing the rise in those states as well,” Dubach said.

People who repeatedly use cocaine cut with levamisole experience unsightly skin lesions, and even skin death.

“There’s some skin lesions that show redness, which is inflammation in the skin, and some dark coloration that can be signs of skin death,” said Dr. Katherine Brown, Senior Resident at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

It usually starts on a person’s ears.

“It’s extremely alarming. It’s my understanding that approximately two million Americans are using cocaine every month, and they’re exposing themselves to a catastrophic adverse reaction from this chemical now laced in the drug supply,” said Dr. Brieva.

‘Racial’ profiling is not a bad thing. If you have an issue in your city/county with only members of a certain group, then you take appropriate measures, which might include viewing members of that group with suspicion. More efficient.

But if they were really worried about this, Just make the law state than anyone stopped (detained/pulled over/ID inspected) by the police is to be checked. Basically, cops perform the legal residency test just like they run DLs or other IDs anyway.

Do they give drivers licenses to illegals in Arizona?Or a state ID card? Lack of both would be a good indicator of citizenship status.

Or you need to show i.d. to buy glue or paint. Because some kids did stupid things. I was buying these items for my son so he could use them for their intended purpose and he said, “Really? For super glue?”

It took a lot of high-profile murders to get any attention. Ordinary work-a-day folks were being killed by illegals for a long time, and there weren’t even news stories about it.

But, kill a few cops and WHAM it gets noticed. Civilians don’t count as much. That’s why it didn’t get fixed 20 years ago.

IF YOU WANT TO REPRESENT CITIZENS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES, THEN MOVE YOUR CARCASSES TO THOSE COUNTRIES, RUN FOR OFFICE, GET ELECTED AND REPRESENT THOSE PEOPLE. OTHERWISE STFU AND REPRESENT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERCIA AT THE LEAST COST TO US, WE THE PEOPLE. YOU ARE DOING A PISS POOR JOB, IT HAS BEEN DULY NOTED, AND NOW YOU WILL HEAR FROM US COME NOVEMBER.

I experienced first-hand Phoenix, Arizona’s illegal immigrants’ rights back in 2006 and 2007. I remember vividly the march past the offices of U.S. Senator Jon Kyl, and the demonstrators who stood outside his office shouting through a bullhorn “come out here and talk to us, Senator Kyl…you represent us, too..”

Um, no. Senator Kyl does not represent illegal immigrants. Not only are they not American citizens, they are here illegally.

I think this thoughtful piece should get a lot of airtime. The author is exactly right. No one wants to have to go to a solution such as this one. But when Washington refuses to do anything to protect our borders and support those states most affected by illegal immigration, hello, we are Americans. We will get up and do something about it at some point.

That is all. Thank you.
