***Genachowski is credited for spearheading Obama's online campaign strategy, which used social networking and other tools to spread Obama's campaign message and raise record campaign contributions. WaPo
***He was a top bundler for Obama (over $500,000)
Net Neutrality For Campaign Donors ( Top Donor awarded FCC chairman position )
***Proponent of Net Neutrality During the campaign Mr. Genachowski shaped many of Mr. Obamas telecommunications and technology policies. He advocated an open Internet in the debate over so-called net neutrality, and media ownership rules that promoted a diversity of voices on the airwaves. NYT
Over the last decade, the chairman of the F.C.C. has played a more expansive role in regulating the economy, particularly with the rise of the Internet and wireless communications. Now, as the new administration plans to make the expansion of broadband and Internet services a significant part of its stimulus package, Mr. Genachowski, with his close ties to Mr. Obama, could have a larger role in shaping economic policy than many of his predecessors. NYT
***Genachowski appeared to have visited executive branch offices 47 times between January 20 and August 31 (2009), according the the White House visitors log. By comparison, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner made only five appearances.
Born August 19, 1962, Genachowski, the son of Eastern European Jews who fled during the Holocaust, grew up in Great Neck, NY. His father, having fled Nazi-occupied Belgium came to the US and studied engineering at MIT.
Genachowski attended yeshiva (Jewish religious school) through high school and studied in Israel before enrolling in Columbia College.
After receiving his BA in history, magna cum laude, in 1985, Genachowski decided to postpone law school and go to work for then-Congressman Charles Schumer (D-NY). His time on Capitol Hill also included work on the staff of the special Congressional committee investigating the Iran-Contra Affair.
Upon receiving his JD in 1991, magna cum laude, from Harvard, he married that same year Boston journalist Martha Raddatz (who was previously married to Ben Bradlee III, son of the longtime Washington Post editor, Ben Bradlee). They later divorced.
Genachowski's first position was as clerk for Judge Abner J. Mikva of the United States Court of Appeals. Mr. Obama had turned down a clerkship with Judge Mikva.
Mr. Genachowski later clerked for Supreme Court Justices William J. Brennan Jr. and David H. Souter.
He was chief counsel to Reed Hundt, an F.C.C. chairman during the Clinton administration.
He then worked for eight years as a senior executive at the IAC/Interactive Corporation, run by Barry Diller.
He also founded Rock Creek Ventures, an investment and advisory firm for digital media companies and co-founded the countrys first commercial green bank.
Genachowski is currently married to Rachel Goslins, a copyright-lawyer-turned documentary filmmaker. The couple has two children and Genachowski has a son from his first marriage.
Is "Rock Creek Ventures" in any way linked to Joe Wilson's and Alamoudi's "Rock Creek Investments?"
I ruv youse. Thank you for that. Where do you find the patience for all that? Shaking my head....in awe.
Julius Genachowski is Co-Founder and Managing Director of Rock Creek Ventures, which invests in, launches, and advises digital media and commerce companies. He is also Co-Founder of LaunchBox Digital, a seed-stage investment program for web and mobile entrepreneurs. Previously, he served in senior executive positions for eight years at IAC/InterActiveCorp (Nasdaq: IACI), including Chief of Business Operations, General Counsel, and a member of the Office of the Chairman. Mr. Genachowski joined IAC shortly after it was founded by Chairman and CEO Barry Diller, and was a key player in IAC’s growth to become a multi-billion dollar global e-commerce and media company, comprised of leading interactive businesses including Expedia, Hotels.com, Hotwire, TripAdvisor, Ticketmaster, HSN, LendingTree, Match.com, Citysearch, ServiceMagic, Evite, Interval International and Ask.com.
Mr. Genachowski has served on the Boards of Directors of Expedia, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXPE), Hotels.com (Nasdaq: ROOM), and Ticketmaster (Nasdaq: TMCS). His current boards include Website Pros (Nasdaq: WSPI), and The Motley Fool, and he is a special advisor at General Atlantic.
Mr. Genachowski is part of the founding group of New Resource Bank, a commercial San Francisco-based bank that opened in 2006, targeting the clean-tech, renewable energy, organic food and similar sectors, the country’s first ‘green’ bank. He is on the Board of Directors of Common Sense Media, and has served on the Board of Advisors of Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2).
Before joining IAC, Mr. Genachowski was Chief Counsel to Chairman Reed Hundt of the Federal Communications Commission. He has served as a law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice David H. Souter and, before that, to retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. Mr. Genachowski worked in Congress on the staff of the Select Committee investigating the Iran-Contra Affair and also for then-U.S. Representative, now Senator, Charles E. Schumer.
Mr. Genachowski holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School (1991), where he was Co-Notes Editor of the Harvard Law Review; and a B.A. from Columbia College (1985).

Comcast: FCC opening Net neutrality door ‘scary’
PALO ALTO, Calif.—A Comcast executive on Friday took aim at federal regulators’ recent Net neutrality decision, saying the move could apply the “heavy burden of regulation” designed for the analog telephone network to the Internet.
Joseph Waz, Comcast’s senior vice president for external affairs, said the Federal Communications Commission appears to be “well-intentioned” in its decision announced earlier this week. (See CNET’s FAQ on the topic.)
But, at a Stanford University conference, Waz said federal regulation “cannot be guided by good intentions alone” and “what could be applied once you’ve opened the door is scary.” A future FCC, for instance, could choose to use the precedent to impose more telephone-era rules such as price regulation.
FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski’s proposal—which will probably take the better part of a year to turn into formal regulations—”ultimately opens the door to the entire heavy burden of regulation,” Waz said. He added that he has a 16-page legal memorandum drafted by Comcast’s attorneys to read later in the day.
Attack first. Attack early. And don’t stop until it’s D.E.D. ded!
You know darned well that if the government gets a toehold, regulating content will not be far behind. If google loves it, it can’t be good for other living things.

Is It a Friend Thing?
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 10:09 PM
Both James Robbins at The Corner on NRO and James Taranto at Best of the Web Today have observed that Martha Raddatz of ABC News somehow managed to find American soldiers fighting in Iraq, all of whom just happened to support Democrats — with fully 80% for Obama. This is noteworthy, of course, because (as Brent Baker at Newsbusters recalls) President Bush and Republicans enjoyed solid support from the military in 2004 . . . not that the media reported it.
So how was Ms. Raddatz able to locate such an outspoken group of Obama supporters? Could be that the army is riddled with them, of course . . . or is there another explanation?
I do not know Ms. Raddatz. I do know that as of 1991, Julius Genachowski — a good friend of Barack’s from The Harvard Law Review and, it seems, currently a technology expert and advisor to Barack — was engaged to her. And from this item, it appears that the marriage went through and produced a child, although the relationship is apparently no longer intact.
Given Barack and Julius’ friendship, it seems reasonable that Martha Raddatz would have known Barack quite well, at least back in the early ‘90’s and for some period thereafter. Were they friends, and are they still?
Obviously, there’s nothing inherently unethical about Ms. Raddatz covering Barack even if so. But it might help to explain her remarkable ability to find this group outspoken Obama supporters in Iraq.
Correspondents Dinner Guest List Starts to Form (updated)

ABC News guests for the dinner include “Hurt Locker” director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal, a network spokeswoman said Thursday. They will be the guests of Martha Raddatz, now the network’s senior foreign affairs correspondent.

“ruv youse” back ;-) -— Thanks for that addition. Because of the double-college association, Genachowski been on my radar for a long time, but no Freeper has done a work-up on him, and I have waited, hoping to get underneath his tightly controlled public profile. But...time’s running out. Hopefully, at least, my post will provide a start for further research.

This is slightly OT, but the BHO regime’s propaganda machine we call the MSM is only as controlled as its reporters will allow. At the same time, reporters’ squalid journalistic ethics can only be enabled by their employers, the MSM.
Agendas and journalistic amorality rule the day. It definitely pays to note who is writing the article, & you just provided a perfect example. Another recent example is a columnist who is driven to find racism in the Tea Party movement. Catch Laura Ingraham’s zinger at the very end of the post #31.

...and psychologists have said as much as well.
Personally, I think he is driven by a deep sense of shame he can never “fix,” To our detriment, he is arrogantly and pathologically compelled to project this deep shame onto America-—hence his endless apologies and figurehead bowing and scraping, not for what we have done. but for who America IS, while, at the same time, arrogantly making absurd and provably false claims about what Muslims have bestowed upon Western civilization.
So self-deceived, he lusts for power so that he can “fix” in us what he can only “fix” in himself by “fixing” America.
He draws emotionally like-minded people into his orbit-—starting with Michelle who never felt proud of her country until...
...just my layman’s opinion.
All I really need to know is that the WH squatter is a narcissistic demagoguing fascist who lives in moral squalor and exploits the very constituency he deceives into believing he will enrich. The only beneficiaries of Obama & Co’s social justice are those they need to bribe or satisfy in order to accrue and maintain power over their disintegrating domain.
Earlier this week it was discovered that Shahzad was posting on terror websites since 2006...but that the Obama Administration took him off the terror watch list anyway.
Shahzad visited numerous websites devoted to ideological discussion of Islamism and Shariah law. His apparent online posts date back to at least 2006 three years before the Times Square suspect became a naturalized American citizen.
If the person on these websites is indeed the suspected bomber, the postings show that he was intellectually thinking about engaging in jihadism for a few years, said Dr. Walid Phares, director of the Future Terrorism Project at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. Knowing that, the ideology of jihadism often has inspired violence and terrorism
These can be coined as Islamist Salafist websites where lots of material is posted, including theological, ideological and political texts and blogs, Phares said, noting that he saw discussions about fatwas, jihad and other Islamist causes on these sites.
As Walid Phares said in an interview on FOX and Friends earlier in the week, Faisal was no lone wolf: When a guy makes a phone call, hes no longer a lone wolf. A lone wolf is somebody who doesnt tell anybody else about the issue. He doesnt share that information. He made phone calls He may be deployed as a lone wolf. It is much easier to send one terrorist as 10 terrorists. But, he is not alone with conducting terror.
If the Obama Administration removed a guy like Faisal Shahzad from the terror watch list sometime after 2008, just what does a guy have to do to make Team Obamas list? BigGovernment
Yes. It is.
Do we know if they are related?
So far...no evidence, but also, to my knowledge, no one has ever discovered anything about “Hal’s” relatives.
Net Neutrality: A Tax on the Internet
The Street ^ | May 5th | Mike Jude
I appreciate the simplification of these 2 comments because they summarize the whole debate:
If you LIKE NET NEUTRALITY you must agree that the government should MANDATE that your ISP cannot decide MY BITS are better than YOUR BITS.
That sounds fair. But it isn’t.
If you DON’T LIKE NET NEUTRALITY you must agree that your ISP gets to run his business any way he wants. If he doesn’t like MY BITS as much as he likes YOUR BITS then, since he is the gate keeper of his own equipment, he can reject MY BITS and accept YOUR bits.
Sounds bad. But it isn’t.

Its an incredibly sad thing to watch. Here we have the government practically open about its wishes to regulate the internet(and we all know what that means) and those on our side act as if we havent been here before.
No no no, net neutrality isnt really the fairness doctrine for the internet! *rolls eyes*
This is what a centurys worth of progressive indoctrination will get you. Freedom is slavery.

‘Man Arrested’ in Karachi Airport Security Alert
Arrest in security scare at Karachi airport
KARACHI: Pakistani officers arrested a man at Karachi airport on Sunday after batteries and an electrical circuit were found in his shoes as he tried to board a plane for the Middle East, an official said.
The 30-year-old civil engineer allegedly told interrogators he came from Pakistan’s northwestern province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where Taliban and militants have a presence, and had been scheduled to travel to Muscat by Thai Airways.
Mohammad Munir, Airport Security Force spokesman, said the bearded man, whom he named as Faiz Mohammad, was arrested when a scanner sounded an alarm. The suspect was not found in possession of explosives, but Munir described the circuit discovery as worrying.
He was on the way to board flight TG 507 for Muscat. After the machine gave the alarm, we checked him manually, said the spokesman. We have recovered four live batteries and a circuit, with a button to switch it on and off, Munir said.
I did see something like it connected to the al awlaki thing, but my brain malfunctioned and never got past al awlaki. Like bells and whistles and stuff.
This is becoming more intriguing by the day. They thought we would buy the idiot lone bomber thing. Boy, were they wrong. zebam is very angry with us for knowing so much.
No actual hard proof, but much circumstantial. “Hal” comes from the same area of Pakistan as Aafiya Siddiqi who was named as the reason for attacks on the US. This is ALSO the same area that zebam visited while he was supposedly at Columbia.
It is ALSO the same area that shahzad is from.
shahzad was removed from the terror watch list shortly after zebam took office.
Aafiyah Siddiqi is related by marriage to khalid sheik mohammed...whose trial zebam PERSONALLY stopped AFTER it had already gotten underway and he was going to plead guilty.
aafiya siddiqi’s sentencing date was moved from May 6, after the attempted bombing, to August 16...which gives them time to hatch another plot.
I don’t know. Lots of dots.
Fly an American flag and/or go to a Tea party and you will be branded a homegrown terrorist.
Right. BO will never take safe borders seriously.

An imam in Mali is living in fear after backing a new family law which no longer obliges wives to obey their husbands, angering Muslim groups.
We found traces of people named "Faisal Shahzad" all over the internet, and even some using variants of the Times Square bomber's email address. Some of them on forums which seemed to be sympathetic to Salafi jihadism, and others? Not so much. In fact, one "fshahzad" seemed to be arguing explicitly against the Deobandi - Hanafi Sunni branch of Islam favored by the Taliban. Unfortunately both Faisal and Shahzad are very common names.
But I didn't find the posts at The World Islamic Mission Fourm discussed by Jim Hoft and cited by Fox News here. I'd be very interested in seeing what he posted, but as I'm on the road I'm unable to do the research myself and would appreciate it much if someone could send a link.
And what more can I say than Jim already said? Other than that expressing jihad sympathies on the internet ought to be considered prima facie evidence of intent to break the law. Someone like that not only should not have been allowed to become a citizen, but also should have been under close watch.
Further, if he was expressing jihad sympathies back in 2006, then Shahzad lied on several INS forms. Whether or not Sen. Lieberman's idea of stripping citizenship from jihadis ever comes to fruition or not, lying on INS forms is a felony and is grounds to have his citizenship revoked.
Snips: What, in effect, these organisations told the American Muslims was: "We can handle the jihad in the Af-Pak region. You will better serve the cause of Islam by going back to the US and starting a jihad in the US Homeland. We will give you the necessary training for this." This has come out very clearly in the testimonies in the US case against Najibullah Zazi, a US resident of Afghan origin, and two others, who had been motivated by Al Qaeda and the JEM to mount an attack in the New York subway system similar to the Madrid bombing of March 2004 and the London bombing of July,2005.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Police in different US cities have till now succeeded in thwarting the attempts of these surrogate jihadis. Luck has also favoured them. But so long as more and more surrogate jihadis keep coming back to the US after having been motivated and trained in the training camps in Pakistani territory, there will always be a danger of one or more planned attacks being successful.
Snip: The manner in which the regime is now battling the Pakistan taliban has increased the risk of jihadi terrorism at home. Indeed, less than ten years after 9/11, this country selected a national leader who more closely resembles the Times Square Bomber than anyone else, and we wonder why the country seems less safe.
The Obama regime are too busy looking for Christian, gun owning conservative, activists, to worry about muzzie jihadist terrorists!
If the regime would spend more time pursuing terrorists actively training right here in the USA in compounds most of us can readily find on the internet as the time they spend trashing Fox News and tea party supporters, that'd be "change" for sure (but not certain any of us would believe it was "for real" at this juncture).

Recently Muslims had made veiled threats, to the executive producers of the South Park comedy show, just because Mohammad was featured in one of their cartoons. After the veiled threats, Comedy Central cowardly censored the episode. A few days later, Seattle artist Molly Norris came up with the idea to start an Everybody Draw Muhammad Day!. Like wildfire the idea spread across the Internet, but it was all was too much for Molly to handle. She quickly backed down as well.
The muslims have already countered.

In an unprecedentedly wild rampage, even for al Qaeda, raider-units, speeding drive-by gun squads, car bombs, and homicidal suicides mowed down checkpoints, liquidated Iraqi soldiers, police and security personnel and murdered civilians, in eight Iraqi cities including the capital, Baghdad, Monday, May 10. By the end of the day, more than 100 people were dead and 300 injured.
The gunmen broke new ground in terrorist tactics when they used automatic weapons fitted with silencers to creep up on their victims. debkafile's military sources report that at dawn, the raiders appeared simultaneously at checkpoints in most quarters of Baghdad. They lowered the windows of their cars when asked for documents, then opened fire with the silenced automatic weapons on the officers manning them.
Then came a deadly wave of massive bombing attacks against police stations, policemen's homes and military patrols in Baghdad and Falujjah to the West and Mosul in the North.
T he single deadliest attack struck civilians in the small town of Suwayrah near Hillah in the South.
There, a pair of remote-controlled car bombs killed eight passersby, following which a suicide bomber blew himself up among the rescue teams, raising the death toll there to 45.
More al death squads hit Balad, Tamiya and Iskandriya.
Al Qaeda was venting its fury for the deaths of two of its senior commanders in Iraq, Abu Amar al Baghdad and Abu Ayub Al-Masri, at the hands of joint US-Iraqi intelligence teams, on April 18.
The two terrorist chiefs were killed by missiles at a hideout in the town of Tharthar northeast of Baghdad. Al Masri's aide and Al-Baghadi's son also died in the attack. debkafile's counter-terror sources note that it took al Qaeda only 22 days to avenge the loss of its commanders and unleash a coordinated reign of terror countrywide that proved its strength was unimpaired.
Remember that zebam just told us there were no al qaeda left worth speaking of in Iraq?
An American-born member of Shabaab, al Qaeda's affiliate in Somalia, has released a propaganda tape that is aimed at recruiting Westerners to wage war against their home countries and establish an Islamic caliphate in the Middle East.
The audiotape, titled "First Stop Addis," features Abu Mansour al Amriki and other members of Shabaab. On the tape, Mansour and three unidentified "North American Brothers," and a Somali, sing a nasheed, or a song without music, in English, extolling the virtues of global jihad. Images of Shabaab forces in combat appear throughout the tape.
Amriki, whose real name is Omar Hammami, is a US citizen who converted to Islam and traveled to Somalia in 2006. Once in Somalia, he quickly rose through the ranks, and now serves as a military commander. Amriki also began appearing in Shabaab propaganda tapes.
"Guerilla warfare from Mogadishu presents... First Stop Addis," Amriki's latest tape begins. Addis is a reference to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. After Ethiopa ousted the Islamic Courts from power in Somalia during an invasion in December 2006, Shabaab began threatening to target Ethiopa.
The tape stresses that Shabaab's war is not confined to Somalia but is global in nature. "From Somalia and Shiishaan (Chechnya), from Iraq and Afghanistan, gonna meet up in the Holy Lands, establishing Allahs Law on the land," Amriki says in a chorus repeated throughout the song. Amriki and others identify their enemy as the "salib," or crusaders.
The tape is clearly aimed at recruiting Westerners. It is produced in English and uploaded onto YouTube. There are no Somali or Arabic subtitles on the tape. Amriki and the others stress that it is their duty to die in battle.
"My number one goal... die a shaheed," or martyr, is a refrain repeated by Amriki and others throughout the tape.
Shabaab has been successful in recruiting fighters in the US and in Europe. The US believes that scores of Muslims living in the US have been recruited and trained in camps in Somalia. And Britain believes that more than 200 Muslims have departed the UK to fight alongside Shabaab in Somalia.
Shabaab merged with al Qaeda in November 2008 after requesting to join the international terror group in September 2008. Top al Qaeda leaders Osama bin Laden, Ayman al Zawahiri, and Abu Yayha al Libi have praised Shabaab in propaganda tapes and encouraged the group to carry out attacks against the Somali government, neighboring countries, and the West. In late 2009, Osama bin Laden appointed Fazul Mohammed to serve as al Qaeda's operations chief in East Africa; the announcement was made at a ceremony in Mogadishu that was attended by Ahmad Godane Zubayr, Shabaab's spiritual leader.
See video at link.
I just watched the tape I linked to in the previous post. Looks like Al Qaeda is moving into “rap” with this “catchy tune”..., well, not quite, but this is a fairly sophisticated production. Roggio said it was just released, but they mention/sing about Bush & Rice.
Can you identify the aerial shot at the end of the video? It has a circle targeting an area, but I have no idea where it is.
Is this the beginning of a new trend...
The last thing the vid says is first stop Addis. I am presuming it is Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, since this thing comes from shabaab in Somalia.
The circled area is probably where the embassies are.

"Al Qaeda is trying to ... use some gaps created by some political problems," the Iraqi security spokesman told Arabiya TV. "There are well-known agendas for the terrorist groups operating in Iraq. Some of these groups are supported regionally and internationally with the aim of influencing the political and democratic process inside Iraq."
........Violence in Iraq has fallen dramatically since the height of the insurgency in 2006 and 2007. But the political vacuum in the wake of the inconclusive election has raised the risk that sectarian violence will pick up again.
Former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's Iraqiya coalition, a secular group heavily backed by the Sunni Arab minority, edged out Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's religious Shiite bloc by two seats in the parliamentary election but neither won an outright majority, forcing them to seek partners to form a ruling coalition.
The attacks also come at a precarious time as Iraq awaits a new government to be formed more than two months after landmark parliamentary elections and worries that insurgents will try to exploit the ongoing political uncertainty to stoke new violence.
The election results have yet to be certified by the country's highest court - which must happen before any new government can be formed - and a recount demanded by al-Maliki in Baghdad is ongoing.
If the results are overturned or Allawi is not perceived as the winner deserving a legitimate shot at forming a government, that could in turn outrage the Sunnis who supported him. Sunni anger at Shiite domination of successive governments was a key reason behind the insurgency.
So much for “hearts and minds.”
Does anyone think zebam cares? I never understood why our guys were dying to create yet another islamic state. I still don’t.
I tried to understand when we were told Iraq would become a secular state as a buffer in the area, a foil to iran. But it never worked that way, it isn’t working that way now, and it never will.
Anyone in a western government who thinks that you can make deals with islam is out of their mind. And as much as Petraeus did manage to win the moment, unfortunately, he lost the war because from the very outset, the war was between saudi arabia and iran for dominance in the area. We were little more than saudi proxies. I said it then. I’m still saying it now.

The former U.S. Appellate Court judge and White House counsel knows Ms. Kagan about as well as anyone in the government, having been her boss in both of those positions, when she clerked for him as a judge and served as his deputy when he was the chief White House lawyer in the Clinton administration.

That makes the regime gang look anti-American!
This reproabate's conscious is so seared that if he had an encounter with God Himself, he would, without missing a step, run off to manipulate the experience for political advantage.
Part of Kagan's makeover has been the defense that her interest in and writings about socialism were to probe the roots of her brother's radicalism.
Paraphrasing there...but I was curious about this brother and his views, thinking that though he may be radical, this smokescreen is being used to mask Kagan's own views.
Have you found anything on Mark Kagan?
Do you think he may be this Kings County law clerk?

Robert Kagan, 67, Lawyer for Tenants
Published: July 25, 1994
Robert Kagan, a New York lawyer and a former chairman of Community Board 7, on the Upper West Side, died on Friday at the New York University Medical Center. He was 67 and had lived on the Upper West Side for the last 30 years.
The cause was pneumonia, and he had heart surgery in December, said his son Marc.
At his death, Mr. Kagan was a longtime partner in the Manhattan law firm of Kagan & Lubic. It has worked with tenant associations involved in negotiations with landlords about converting rented apartments to co-ops.
Mr. Kagan was chairman of the community board from 1969 to 1971 and from 1974 to 1975 and was a member for more than a decade. Its district extends from 59th to 110th Street and from Central Park West to the Hudson River.
From 1971 to 1975 he was also the chairman of COMBO, a committee representing West Side community boards, which opposed the Westway highway project. In 1968 he was the president of the United Parents Association, a citywide parents’ advocacy group. He was also a trustee of the West End Synagogue.
Mr. Kagan was born in Brooklyn, grew up in its Flatbush section and received a B.A. from Penn State University in 1948, an LL.B. from Yale in 1951 and a master’s degree in law from New York University.
In World War II he was a sergeant in the United States Army, and in later years he was a trustee of the American Diabetes Association.
In addition to his son Marc, of Manhattan, he is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Gloria Gittelman; another son, Irving, of Manhattan; a daughter, Elena, of Chicago, and two grandchildren.
Mom Gloria taught public school's best and brightest at Hunter College Elementary School;

brother, Marc Kagan, who was a transit worker and union reformer in Transport Workers Local 100. Marc Kagan was one of former Local 100 leader Roger Toussaint's top aides until the two had a falling out in 2003. That's par for the course for the Upper Left Side, where if you can't launch two feuds before lunch, the day's a waste.
Marc Kagan became a teacher and he's no less a fierce supporter of union rights in his new union. In a letter in last week's Chief-Leader, he takes a swipe at schools chancellor Joel Klein's notion that seniority rules shouldn't apply to upcoming teacher layoffs. He goes on to offer a full-throated defense of unionism...
