This reminds me that Phil Rizzuto has been gone from broadcasting since 1996 and passed in 2007. I miss Phil, maybe as much as you folks miss Ernie. I hope there’s baseball up there (and that I’m not starting the second game of the doubleheader tomorrow.)

I think the announcers are all what you are used to, and the familiarity. I spent a summer in Michigan back in the 80s, and wasn't that impressed with Harwell. But I know Tiger fans love the guy.

I spent time away from the Midwest, and when I came home, and heard the voice of the Twins, Herb Carneal, it just felt like home. And I'm sure people not from the upper Midwest, would just say, "eh".

Ernie Harwell was the voice of the Tigers, and one of the nicest people I've ever met.

He's in a better place now calling the big baseball game in the sky, and is no longer suffering from cancer.

I grew up in northern Michigan in the 50's and 60's. During those years I used to lay in bed at night listening to the Tigers and Ernie........ In the daytime my grandfather used to sit in the sun on his porch next door listening to every game....

I'll never forget nor forgive Bo Schembechler for letting Ernie go shortly after Schembechler took over as Tiger GM...........that sucked.
