INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Sen. Dan Coats surged back four other Republican Senate hopefuls to clinch the party's nomination Tuesday night.

GOP leaders had high hopes that Coats, a senator for about eight years in the 1990s, would be a shoo-in for the nomination. National Republicans have backed him since he launched his campaign in February, shortly before Democrat Evan Bayh made his surprise announcement that he wouldn't seek a third term.

I guess I won’t be voting in November, then.
This is depressing, I liked Hostettler, and so did Ron Paul.

Another old retread to join old farts McConnell and McCain, gee just what the GOP needs to revitalize and re-energize the Grand OLD Party, wish they would all retire to some old folks home and give someone else a chance.

As far as I remember, Harriet Myers was selected by your hero George W. Bush, not Dan Coats.

Let's get something straight right here, bub, George W. Bush is no hero of mine. While I strongly supported him after 9/11 and during the Iraq War, up until he started muddling it by sucking up to the Saudis and Palestinians, I was harshly critical of his big spending, pro-illegal alien domestic policies, as my posting history from that period will attest.

As far as Myers goes, Coats embraced her selection and enthusiastically shopped her around the Senate before taking the bad news bad to Bush that she was toast. Out of that fiasco, Bush gave us two real shining stars, SCOTUS Justices Roberts and Alito. Otherwise, Bush's domestic legacy is a joke. So trying to throw him in my face will get you no where fast.

Regarding Dan Coats and Harriet Myers, I believe that Dan Coats was just doing Bush a favor . . he had no role whatsoever in selecting Harriet Myers for the Supreme Court .

I am beginning to think now that this IN seat is going to stay Democrat. I question whether Coats can win.

I read it from an article here. Don't recall where it was from. I think I made a reply, so I'll look back and see if I can locate it.
