Facebook turns on Palin
Politico ^ | 5/06/10 | Andy Barr

Former Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin's endorsement of Carly Fiorina in California's Senate race has prompted a fervent blowback on her Facebook page, long Palin's safe haven for delivering her message.

The revolt is coming from Palin supporters who also back Chuck DeVore – a tea party favorite who is campaigning against Fiorina in the Republican primary.

Palin’s Facebook page is littered with comments opposing her endorsement of Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard.

“The only REAL CONSERVATIVE is Chuck DeVore. Fiorina is a RINO and we don't need any more of those in [California],” one irate commenter wrote. “Why wouldn't you back Chuck DeVore???”

“Sorry Sarah but I think Chuck DeVore is the conservative candidate you should be supporting,” added another, who was followed up by a DeVore supporter who wrote: “I don't agree with this endorsement AT ALL! What are you thinking Sarah?”

“The Republican party has NO ONE that can save it ....”

Paul Ryan?
Mitch Daniels?

I’d like to see Palin in Steel’s spot - or doing something involving energy policy.

libbylu, you (and indeed, all of us) would do well to not remind Carling and others why Palin ‘supports’ McLame. What sense does it make to endlessly repeat a self-evident truth? There are none so blind as those who will not see and all that.

And this question will keep coming up ad nauseum.

please don’t use facts to make an argument it will spoil the screaming by those who would rather go down in flames than beat Boxer. Campbell is the worst of all worlds - a convicted, by his actions, self centered man taking money from anyone that will allow him to get it.

There was no reason for Palin not to endorse DeVore in the primary...and then later endorse the GOP winner in the election.

I think Palin should worry less about the party...and more about real conservative principles. She has made some good choices with her endorsements, but, in some of the real key races, she has gone RINO.

In most states Fiorina would be considered a liberal Democrat. She was totally ineffective as CEO of HP. Palin could not see that?

Also, anyone who worries more about the GOP winning a specific election....instead of conservative principles being valued...is a RINO.

I am not asking you to join with me on anything. Again, for those of you in Rio Linda, I don't understand why Palin is endorsing anyone else in this race besides Devore. The logic presented on this thread is that Fiorina is more electable and stands a better chance of winning. The polls don't bear that out. Campbell has a better shot at winning. I thought the objective was to beat Boxer.

If Palin is going to let crass political expediency trump principle, why not go all the way and endorse Campbell? Fiorina is a RINO as well as Campbell. Once you move away from endorsing Devore, it is like being a little bit pregnant.

We don’t need an anti-Israel senator in 2010.

Anti-Israel? How so?

I haven’t noticed, either, that the two parties try to outdo each other in support for Israel, as you state in a reply above.

I suggest you take a look at how Congress votes on assistance to Israel and on resolutions that affect Israel. The votes overwhelmingly support Israel. There is not a dime's worth of difference between the two parties on this issue.

There are 45 Jewish members of the 111th Congress, 14 in the Senate counting Boxer. Only one is a Rep, Eric Cantor.

I am not a big fan of Carly, far from it, but I understand Sara’s reasons. Carly would be MUCH better then Boxer and this is California after all. The Palin haters will be out in force, not much can be done about that. Leaders make hard decisions and hard decisions are no fun.

So you deny that the statements in SoCalPol’s post 230 are true? Just asking.

The last part of your reply does not make any sense to me. Yes, Cantor is the only Jewish Republican senator. How does that prove the two parties vie with each other to be the best Zionists?

You are also repeating the flawed logic that if Palin is endorsing Fiorina because Fiorina has a better chance of winning than DeVore, Palin should endorse against her firm beliefs and go with Campbell, who has an even better chance. Choosing a candidate who has a chance does not mean you have to abandon all your principles. Politics is a play-it-as-it-lays game. You are stamping flawed logic on it.

Why are you supporting Campbell?

I am not denying anything. I posted Campbell's response.

The last part of your reply does not make any sense to me. Yes, Cantor is the only Jewish Republican senator. How does that prove the two parties vie with each other to be the best Zionists?

Cantor is in the House. I suggest you take a look at Congressional votes on Israel. They pass with 75% or more of the vote.

Israel is not the litmus test for me that it seems to be for you. If the choice comes down to what is best for the US and what is best for Israel, I am an American first. We don't have to agree on everything to maintain a strong alliance. I have been to Israel several times. There is a broad spectrum of poltical views within Israel. In the US, the political reality is that both parties support Israel as a friend and ally.

The flaw in logic is with Palin. You can't be a little bit pregnant. If the criterion becomes winning versus principle, than you have crossed the Rubicon. This marks the second time that Palin has endorsed a RINO over a conservative. It is disturbing.

Why are you supporting Campbell?

I support Devore.

Fiorina has a better chance of winning than DeVore

....ahhhhhh, NOT according to the most Accurate pollster in CA since 2000, ie Rasmussen! All you Carlibots look it up, in April DEVORE polled BETTER vs BoxofRocks than Carly and Chuck has an actual RECORD to run on instead of Arnie-like promises... THIS is the year with the Tea Party money and enthusiasm to support the conservative and kill the Boxer campaign which will not be well defended by national Dems since they think they have CA still in their pocket...NOW IS THE TIME if ever...

ymmv

Why is that odd, for a long time Palin was the only thing holding the conservative movement together, until her courage and outspokenness emboldened others.

Now, she endorses RINOs over conservatives that she "emboldened". Looks like the Palin glue has an expiration date, at least in terms of the conservative movement.

No troll, she is leading us to what will probably be one of our greatest conservative elections in history, one where we move the entire Congress and Senate significantly to the right.

why do some freepers feel like they own a candidate and treat them like any criticism to that candidate is personal towards they themselves?

and I will go out on my usual limb and say that women here are the bigger offenders of this "possessiveness of the candidate"

they get like this cult of personality thing going and brook no dissent regardless

they did with Bush too...bigtime...that was gasoline for the harpie’s fire here back in the day even when Bush was unfortunately screwing up

now Sarah whom I support and have since I firs noticed her has backed both Queeg and Carly whom I don't care for

I guess I gather her logic or loyalty but I don't like it

she speaks of ideology and purity and then acts Machiavellian

oh well

but she is open to criticism same as anybody...it's fair game

Good post.

Why don’t you support Jim Robinson, then? Surely, he’s more acceptable than DeVore.

I agree, DeVore has made himself a joke.

He has done an abysmally poor job campaigning, and we do need to fear Campbell. Fiorina may not be a conservative BarbieDoll, but she can win, and she supports the important stuff that Campbell doesn’t. Most important is that she can cancell Boxer’s talking points by the numbers.

Its really too bad that we can’t seem to find Christian candidates that know how to campaign in California.
