N. PHOENIX J.D. Hayworth, former conservative Congressman and candidate for the U.S. Senate, running against John McCain, got an enthusiastic introduction from North Phoenix Tea Party leader Wes Harris and a warm welcome from an overflow crowd at Marie Callendars restaurant on Cactus Road. The large audience liked what they heard from Hayworth, whose message resonated with the Tea Partys major theme a crying need for Congress to protect the Constitution of the United States from the destructive agenda of what is referred to as the Obamas regime in Washington, D.C.
In his opening remarks Hayworth pointed out that the major media doesnt seem to understand the Tea Partys intense opposition to change that involves their Constitution and he elaborated with examples of government bureaucracies that mandate regulations without congressional approval or oversight. In fact, he described one of his first bills in the Senate, as a Constitutional Citation Act which would require legislators to cite the section of the Constitution that gives them the authority to enact the legislation they seek to pass. To emphasize the need for guardianship over our Constitution, he cited Ben Franklins response to a question asked of the Founders, What sort of government have you given us? Franklin famously replied, A Republic, if you can keep it!
Hayworth cited his major disagreements with Senator McCain on issues that McCain has championed, focusing particularly on the Tea Partys adamant opposition to comprehensive immigration reform. That is amnesty he said emphatically and it will not work. Other indicators of their differences included their records on taxes, with Hayworth actually helping to author the Bush tax cuts, while McCain opposed the cuts. McCain voted for big bank bail-outs while Hayworth has opposed them.
The litany of differences was distinct and included disagreement with McCains attempts to write an amnesty bill with then Senator Kennedy McCains version of Cap and Trade with Senator Lieberman McCains vote to confirm Eric Holder, current Attorney General of the U.S. who favors not only the closing of Guantanamo, but treating terrorist enemy combatants as criminal defendants.
Former Representative Hayworth also observed that in light of the Cook County, Illinois political regime being transferred to Washington, D.C., the senate needs new conservative realists to deal with the Democrats, not life-time incumbents dedicated to formality and polite bipartisanship like an ancient Greek senate chamber. He promised in closing, When elected, I will serve only two terms, and in answering ensuing questions, outlined his major objectives to strengthen the Constitution and fight to change the liberal agenda that treats immigration as a political matter. It is an invasion and needs to be stopped.
The evening was described by one Tea Party activist as a political hand-shake with J.D. and a meeting of the minds.
But then again, one of the State Run Networks would be happy to hire him to bash Conservativs. ...just just now how mean and vindictive the man is.
Sarah Palin must be deeply saddened.
But McAmnesty said to build the dang fence! Doesn’t that count for something?
I don’t think she cares if McCain loses. Endorsing him was merely a formality.
Time to go home John,Time to retire.
Eat your heart out, McCain.
J.D. needs to stay out there, so people can hear his message. I hope he is. McCain is a traitor!
I think she cares whether or not her endorsement carries weight.
I suspect 'Cuda is fine with it . . . if not more than just delighted.
It would do my heart such good to see this man sent into retirement.
I hope you're right, but we'll see what else, if anything, Sarah does to help Juan's cause from now until August 24th. Hopefully she won't be visiting Arizona again until next Fall, or making any new TV or radio spots.
I think he actually said to build the "G D" fence. Nice huh.
“I dont think she cares if McCain loses. Endorsing him was merely a formality.”
She did a multi million dollar fundraiser at the Biltmore for McCain
She did 4 public appearances in Arizona
She did 2 appearances on Fox News.
She has run radio ads continuously on
550 AM Phoenix
790 AM Tucson...... these are the 2 biggest conservative
talk radio stations here in Arizona.
She cares plenty!
See post 15.
How much was she paid???
I don’t know if she was paid or not. Hayworth would probably be even with McCain, or slightly ahead if it weren’t for Palin.
Her radio ads are full of lies. They say McCain has virtually SAVED Arizona from penury. They really suck!
Maybe new campaign slogan can be “Show Me the Money”!!!!!
Great news! More JD, less McCain
In the end I want to see JD win too, so we'll agree to disagree on Palin.
It could very well save the nation.
“Palin tried to link McCain to the Tea Party Movement when her speech included, “We’re all Tea Party people, right?” McCain is the antithesis of all we stand for. He is the #1 RINO. He needs to go “
Do you think she's doing anything new, or are the same recorded spots being used continuously?
I'm just observing and hoping she'll drift away from his campaign, but if she returns to Arizona to help Juan again, I'll probably just write her off as just one more crony, Beltway Republican.
Well, as I am sure you know, that is the project in which we are involved. The mistake the political class is making is that they think we do not understand what and who the problems are, that we have no strategy, and that we are not in this for the long term. McCain has never been in touch with normal Americans, who he views as people beneath his notice.
That statement was when she lost me as a supporter. All the excuses in the world won’t justify that remark.
” Do you think she’s doing anything new, or are the same recorded spots being used continuously? “
Will, does it matter when the radio ads were made? She had to know that the wealthy McCain would run them as many times as he could schedule them.
” And if AZ voters choose JD, you’d be posting that she didn’t have any influence. “
Horsefeathers! Why would I post it at all if I thought she had no influence?
Just indications of whether she was fulfilling some basic obligations (as her most loyal supporters had said millions of times), returning favors, or whether she's committed to getting the weasel reelected and is more or less a Juan McCain Republican.
Look at post 15. That is NOT merely returning a favor.
No favors were owed, anyway.
