Posted on 05/12/2010 6:47:05 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY
Former first lady Laura Bush has broken with her husband on the premier social issues of his administration and said she backs gay marriage and abortion.
After more than eight years of silence on the controversial issues, Mrs. Bush said in an interview with CNN's Larry KingTuesday, that gay marriage and abortion were points of contention with her husband, former President George W. Bush.
Mrs. Bush in recent weeks has been promoting her memoir "Spoken from the Heart," in which she writes about her life both before and after becoming first lady.
In response to a question about gay marriage, she said, "There are a lot of people who have trouble coming to terms with that because they see marriage as traditionally between a man and a woman. But I also know that, you know, when couples are committed to each other and love each other, that they ought to have, I think, the same sort of rights that everyone has."
Mrs. Bush said she and the ex-president "disagree" on legalizing same-sex marriage.

Link for proof of that POV?
Interesting how the more we learn about the Bush’s the more they fall into the Elite Political Progressive line...
I’m sure it was beautifully written and I feel a little deprived. When she proclaims she is pro-life it will be the first book on my reading list (on your recommendation of course) :^)
Don’t post to me.
I remember one day talking to the President of right to life here in Ky and he said one thing people never discuss is saving the life of a woman while not killing the child can be done and is done. It’s the direct intention of killing the child there is a big difference!! But liberals such as Mrs. Bush doesn’t get it as well.
But thanks for totally dismissing my comments.
Agreed. OTOH, Sarah Palin's new book is coming out soon and it looks like another winner!
You may ignore my legitimate questions, if you wish, but you do not control my free speech here, and never have. You don't have that power. (btw, the gig is up with your gang).
So I do not comply with your absurd demand, and if I agree or disagree with you, I will state it as I desire.
(And I am keeping this post, so that you cannot, in the future, scream "LIAR!" at me and embarrass yourself).
And I am also noting that you cannot produce proof of your accusation about Laura.
I always thought she was just like a Stepford wife. She dressed the part, played “The good Christian” wife and mother and reached out to the downtrodden with books but without any real (Eunice Kennedy passion), she performed well, just as she was told to do by all the Illuminati around her.
Silence is golden. It’s separates the men from the boys. There is no reason he should defend himself from KNOWN liars.
If you can find a single person who joined the Republican party because of Laura Bush, I will stand corrected. Most people know she is apolitical, and was raised in a Democrat family. She is not now, nor has she ever been a poltical standard bearer, nor are her daughters, who are less political than she is.
Where did you get that? The NYTimes?? LOL!
How many parents would allow any kind of sexual hedonist to babysit their children. Not only homosexuals but wifewappers, fetishists or anything which sets a bad example through sexual deviancy?
I think what you describe is “jamming” by association. Most people are polite and don’t wish to be seen as offensive or intollerant even if the homosexuals are hedonistically repugnant. That is used against us.
In the end the sexual deviants have to be politely shunned and excluded from any contact with children or the educational process. (formal and informal)
“Just stating the fact that I am not now, nor have I ever “vowed” that I would not post to you. I have been completely honest in that regard, and you know it.”
You are a damn liar, and a fraud. WE AGREED NOT TO POST TO EACH OTHER ON OCTOBER 30, 2009. YOU ARE A DAMN LIAR!
Sorry Ohio W fan -I guess some people don’t have eyes to see and ears to hear !
But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear. - Jesus Christ
What a stupid comparison to Laura Bush.
Yeah, you’re right. Neither of them had half a clue when it came to bedrock Conservatism. It’s every frustrating to watch a person on your side who should instinctively respond appropriately on bedrock issues, address it like a person with no anchor. That’s what constantly drove me crazy about GW.
There’s a lot of frustration in the ranks these days. And those most pained by it, are voicing their anger (if you will) and frustration over it.
It’s just painful to realize what an opportunity we had under Bush, and how that opportunity circled the drain prior to Obama coming on the scene.
Defenders of Bush can’t deal with that reality.
So what? She’s his mate, not his running mate. Plenty of couples disagree on politics.
Ok Deb , Let me spell it out for ya !
Eunice Kennedy - created the Special Olympics All for the GLORY OF GOD !
Laura Bush - killing babies and Homosexual marriage - All for the glory of satan !
GOT IT !
I told folks here long ago she was a social liberal.
as usual got excoriated by the Harpies and Bush worshippers
no wonder he was so weak...
“..Unlike her husband ....”
yeah, I know...(sigh)
Goes back to what I said about how compromised we are.
Sh*t’s enough to make ya old...
Heheh - just sneaking in before taking cats for a walk - just seeing if Katla blew up or WW 3 started.
I got 5 bags of clothes together for a church clothes giveaway, organized most of the beads, talked to a friend in Brazil, now out the door! Read scripture related book last night - feel so much better.
I honestly astounded... that anybody is surprised by this.
to some that is indifference, in other words people don’t give a damn. Or shall we say lukewarm and we all know what Jesus said about that.
funny isn’t that what our Lord said of those that were lukewarm, he would vomit them out!!
Wow, are you rude. I was just offering up the possibility, not stating as fact, that some young people may be influenced by her and her daughters' position on abortion & gay marriage. Please don't post back to me.
That is what offends me so much to me it’s the same as just lying all together. 50 million dead children!!
(Some of the comments on this thread are ludicrous).
I haven't read the book. I haven't seen the interviews. If she said she thinks this is a matter of choice for individual women, the comments are less ludicrous than you think.
There is one point I need to clarify here. I earlier said that I wouldn't buy the book because of one comment, and that wasn't entirely true.
When the name George W, and Laura Bush are mentioned, I am caused to contemplate what might have been, Republicans in control of Congress and the White House. I am not compelled to read ghost written books that explain what went on behind the scenes as JW pushed 'no child left behind', more than doubled the budget of the Department that focuses on brain-washing our children, swore that we had nothign to fear from Islam as it took on facets of Christianity in the public arena in a methodical step by step process, pushed through the Part D addition to Medicare, demagogued the plight of illegal immigrants and supported making them citizens, allowed NASA to flail so disgustingly that we now have no way to put humans in space...
In truth, this tome doesn't appeal to me on any level whatsoever.
I'm sorry that anyone would decide not to buy this wonderful book because of this. I think it's a mistake, because it is loaded with so much information and detail about what went on for 8 years in the protection of this great nation. It gives detail about the greatness of the American people. It gives insight into the character of those who led us for eight years.
It is a GOOD read, and well worth it for anyone. I hope it remains on the best seller lists for a long time, and that those who don't want to buy it, borrow it.
Yes, let's do our best to portray George and Laura Bush as the perfect models of what we want in reasoned leadership. And while we're at it, to hell with Conservatism. /s
In the mean time, let's pray for Laura.........and thanks for the free advice. ;)
I have no problem with praying for Laura, but it baffles me why you think you need to. Didn't you state she hadn't been wrong on abortion?
You’re a liar. Laura Bush is neither “pro-abortion” or “pro gay marriage”. And you’re the “rude” and let me add, dishonest one.
Close yourself off to information, her memoir? that's ridiculous...then you must not buy coke,Volvo,IBM,Citigroup
Chase Home Finance,Prudential Financial,Hotels.com,American Airlines,Showtime,Nike,Shell Oil,Kodak,Subaru,Saab,Ford Motor Company,General Motors,Starbucks,Avis,Ben & Jerry's
Walt Disney,Paramount,Toyota,AT&T,sears,Target,Procter & Gamble,Revlon,Unilever,Verizon,Walgreens
Those that support abortion:TGIF
Midas,Time Warner,Bank of America,Disney,Chevron

Rotary Clubs,DuPont,Marriott,Whole Foods,Sonic,Wells Fargo
Stand up for your values...but you would do much better saving your energy to teach your children (homeschool) and or teach at public school...be a person of influence. Pray that is our answer!
I could never date or marry anyone who supported abortion. And the whole gay marriage agenda is a direct attack on matters of faith, they want to force the churches to marry them.
could you give an example of a church forced to marry a gay couple?
I think I remember that as well.
You demanded that I not post (because you were so offended that I called your post "hyperbole" IIRC :), and I reluctantly agreed. Shortly thereafter, I said publicaly just what I said here, that I would post to you as I wished, and that you and I mostly agreed.
I have been completely honest, and you know it.
But let's not quibble. You don't have the right to demand that I not post to you. We both know that, so just ignore me in the future, if you have no response to my comments.
Whoa! Where is THAT coming from?? That is the antithesis of everything I have said as an ardent pro-lifer.
Is it time to call this conversation quits now? I mean, now that you've started making things up??
I think so. Maybe later....
You are kidding of course, or maybe I'm too old to recognize sarcasm?
Latino Voters are the new backbone of the Democrat Party, and their abortion rates amongst them is second only to African - Americans. Goggle it.
That you can't tell the difference between polite diplomacy and political dogma is disturbing. And that you can't see thru the obvious on-going campaign of Leftist slander against ALL the Republican presidents, surprises me.
And insulting people who know are conservatives, but who dare to believe George Bush was a dedicated conservative who did his best against an avalanche of opposition, "Bushbots" and "in love" is beneath you. I expect it from the usual malcontents who scream "RINO" at every Republican who makes a dumb or diplomatic, unconservative comment to the press, but I thought you at least attempted to check things out.
Wow. This must be an alternate universe. I thought it was the place for conversation and give and take comments.
Sorry I offended you with those innocuous questions.
Note. I am not agreeing to this bizarre demand not to post to pointy head. Just for the record.
LOOK EVERYONE...I DONT THINK WE ALL REALLY BELIEVED WHEN
OBAMA SAID...I WILL FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORM THIS COUNTRY!
we are in the midst of a huge shift. OF BIBLICAL PROPORTION
IT DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER...
READ 2 Timothy 4:3 (ESV)
3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
Now I've seen everything. LOL!!
“I have been completely honest, and you know it.”
I know that you are a damned liar, and are now trying to justify it.
A DAMN LIAR.
Dont argue with trolls
Nancy Reagan was not pro-life. She's also a big embryonic stem cell advocate. And, I have read she supports gay marriage, but I haven't seen any quotes directly attributed to her, so it's tough to know conclusively.
As a matter of historical factual accuracy, we have never had a conservative First Lady. Mimi Eisenhower is probably closest, although the social issues of today really didn't exist during her tenure, so it's difficult to tell precisely where she comes down on some of these issues. But, she probably had the most conservative and traditional personal life of any modern-day First Lady.
would you mind sending me some of your research? There are some young people today who think since they went to college are completely stupid about some things, including the global warming hoax agenda.
