KSU student: 'messed-up system'
The Marietta Daily Journal ^ | May 15, 2010 | Kathryn Dobies and Jon Gillooly

ATLANTA - Following her second arrest and release from jail, Kennesaw State University student and illegal immigrant Jessica Colotl said Friday that she wasn't a criminal and was surprised to be caught up in an immigration battle that she said she perceives to be the result of a "messed-up system."

"I'm just hoping for the best and I really believe that something positive should come out of this, probably an immigration reform or at least the Dream Act, which would help this sentence," Colotl said.

Before a lively crowd of supporters at Buford Highway's Plaza Fiesta, Colotl, 21, along with her attorneys and members of immigrant activist groups, addressed throngs of media. Standing behind a lecturn with a sign on it reading, "I march for Jessica," Colotl answered questions about the events that led up to her second arrest and how it feels to be the poster child for what some say is America's flawed immigration system.

Colotl turned herself in to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office at 10 a.m. Friday after an arrest warrant was issued two days prior, alleging she made false statements about her place of residence when she was booked into Cobb Jail on March 30. The felony charge could result in more than a year in jail and a fine of greater than $1,000. Colotl posted a $2,500 bond and was released at 11:40 a.m. Friday, just hours before her 2 p.m. press conference.

Colotl was first arrested March 30 for driving without a valid driver's license, after being stopped a day prior on KSU's campus for a traffic violation.

DID SHE EVER HAVE A LEGAL DRIVING LICENSE?

DID SHE HAVE DRIVER'S INSURANCE FOR HER CAR WITHOUT A LEGAL DRIVING LICENSE?

Article says the car was insured.

Glad to see you’re sticking with the FR tradition of commenting without reading the article. :)

BTW, how DO you go about insuring a car without a driver’s license?

"Jessica can't start the process to become a U.S. citizen because she's not allowed to," he said. "If Jessica could obtain a license, she would have."

So we should just let her short-cut the system?

How about GO HOME. You don't live here, you have no right to be here. Wait in line like the rest.

I agree that it is a messed up system in that she should have already been deported.

Two separate issues.

What I find most interesting is that this is the third time I have seen this article this morning and it was from 3 different sources. Could it be a plant? (like those pro Obama opinion pieces)

Kuck said, under the ICE agreement, Colotl is a legal U.S. resident for the next year, eligible for in-state tuition and employment.

ICE idiots cutting deals instead of enforcing the laws.

I do have some sympathy for this girl. She was brought here as a child by people (her parents) that she trusted. They made her into a criminal. Now she should say thanks for all the freebies and go home. She’s obviously a smart girl and can come back in through the front door.

Hmmm, typical liberal arts student, I fear.

Proof? She doesn’t know the meaning of the word “illegal”.

She also gave a false address when stopped. That is the main reason for her re-arrest. She is lawyered up though!

illegal immigrant Jessica Colotl said Friday that she wasn't a criminal

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Of course, the attorney general for MA is on the record saying that illegal immigrants are not violating any law.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

NOT MENTIONED HERE:

This is the MSM’s ‘illegal alien is victim.’ 3.8 high school paid for by... tax payers. Her free ride to college on scholarship paid for by.... tax payers.
So who is the real victim?

Notice also that the MSM ignores the thousands of cases where illegals rape murder rob etc. Won’t see that as the example of ‘poor little illegal’ but they’ve deemed this story as acceptable for propaganda reasons.

I just find it amazing that they’ve had her in jail twice and she hasn’t been deported, never mind the car and insurance problem.

What’s the deal, can these law enforcement officers not read and comprehend the law?

You don’t have papers, you are shipped out.

If the car was insured, How did she get the insurance?

In whose name was the the auto insurance in?

In my experience in buying auto insurance, you have to go through a credit check with the Experian or one of the other credit check companies and supply a valid driver’s license number for each of the drivers.

Excerpt from a previous article for the Marietta Daily Journal that was Posted on March 10 2010

Might local law enforcement shed light on how her gold Honda was insured or how it passed emissions and was registered with-out a valid driver’s license or address? Speaking as a mom required to jump through multiple hoops making all that happen for my college daughters’ two out-of-state vehicles, I’m especially interested in how that all worked.

It’s been reported Jessica wants to attend law school. Will her deferral extend for years, and which law school will admit her? Who will pay for that, La Raza? GALEO? Coca-Cola? Me? I cannot wait to find out.
