I thought my ideas relied on capitalism ... rather than the government. But I guess not.

"Before 2007, the number of doctors opting out averaged less than a handful a year."

Wow, what crack reporting. What constitutes a 'handful' nowadays? Five? Twenty five? Eighty? Sheesh.

The facebooking of the media continues.

I guess I’m lucky - the 4 or 5 doctors I see on a regular basis (like once every 6 months) are to a man and woman honest, VERY hard-working, patient, caring and kind. My PCP has, shall we say, a colorful opinion about the AMA being in bed with The 0ne. Probably has a lot to do with the fact that I live in a heavily-military area, too.

Our GP quit as of April 30 because of the new healthcare law. My sister lives in another town here in Texas and said that several of their city docs are closing their offices and doing house calls instead. That way they don’t have overhead, they can see only the patients they want to see.

Lovely. The pResident in Chief will make sure everyone has medical care....the problem will be in finding a doctor to accept it.

A doctor making house calls! What a novel idea! -grin- I may mention that to my PCP, although he wouldn’t know what to do about his staff. Have also thought about discussing the ‘boutique’ approach with him, i.e. some kind of contractual/retainer arrangement.

The best way to go about it, IMHO.

No one wants to spend a lifetime learning a trade just to be micromanaged to the point of oblivion by a bunch of pencil-necked bureaucrats.

Doesn’t that bottom line need one more F in it?

Yeah, the staff is a problem, but these docs doing house calls are using a billing service which has cut down on their overhead as well. I’m assuming they also use a calling/messaging service. If more doc did this, maybe more of these other services might spring up for staffers jobs.

The article mentioned NOTHING about doctors expenses. First they have the med school debt and thanks to dimrat lawyers, their malpractice insurance premiums are huge and continue to go up. Plus additional taxes on their income and all the freeloaders on the system and no wonder they are giving up on fedgov medicine. If the congress wanted to pay the docs more and actually keep them in business they could. They can find enough cash to bail out (fill in the blank), but cannot find the funds to keep doctors solvent. This is a covert assault on small business and a squeeze play to force older Americans into a fedgov medical plan. They control the game.
Each doctor is a free agent who sells his time and talent for a profit. Just like any other small businessman. But the feds have determined that the medical profession is to be one of sacrifice and poverty. A lot of doctors are going to opt out of medicine entirely or else go broke.

He’s so loyal to his staff that he married his PA. Seriously! Actually, second marriage for both of them and they’re a perfect match. I just don’t see him bailing on his staff, anyway. For now he’s sitting tight although the Medicaid cases are starting to drive him batty.

Not to worry. Congress and Obama will just print more.

Finding a doctor to accept Medicare patients is part of the master plan. They will recruit “doctors” from Third World countries who will be employees of the federal government. Totally socialized medicine. Private practice will eventually be outlawed.

As my Navy friends say, “stand by for heavy seas, shipmate”.

TRICARE is just Medicare by another name. My Oncologist told me last fall that it takes 8 TRICARE patients to equal the re-imbursement he gets from Blue Cross. He and his partners only see TRICARE folks out of a sense of moral duty - it is financially foolish.

Imagine that, something the current regime does harms Americans. How consistent of them.

Which is precisely why I’ve never used TRICARE except as a backup billpayer. Medicare will come soon enough.

Although, I guess it depends on where you are - many retirees I know just go to the military clinics, wait patiently and get great service. It would seem that it’s a numbers game with the military clinics - there are threshholds that need to be met to attain or maintain status as a clinic, etc. I’ll have to check with one of my military doctor friends.

At least when I was in high school, you took Journalism to avoid College Prep English.
