Mitt Romney Not Eligible?
May 19, 2010 | Chatter

Here is a real mess, that is much more confusing than Obama's ineligiblity.

It has occurred to me that Mitt Romney, may not be a natural born citizen, and may not even be a US citizen. I'll give the facts as I know them, and let you all research the Immigration Laws.

When Congress started cracking down on polygamy, Miles Park Romney (Mitt Romney's great-grandfather) and many other families, left the United States, 5 March 1885, moved to Mexico and began their own settlement.

Mitt Romney's paternal grandfather Gaskell Romney (1871–1955), fathered George Wilcken Romney, however, remained in Mexico until events during the Mexican Revolution forced his family to move back to the United States, when his son was still young. The year they moved back is unknown, but, the revolution started in 1910.

Mitt Romney's father, George Wilcken Romney (July 8, 1907 – July 26, 1995) was born in Colonia Dublán, Galeana, in the Mexican state of Chihuahua – one of the Mormon colonies in Mexico – on July 8, 1907.

Here is the core issue. Under today's immigration law, Gaskell Romney would be considered a US citizen, because both of his parents were citizens, both of whom, did live for a while in the United States, however, his son, George Wilcken Romney was born in Mexico, to US citizen parents who had not yet spent one day on US soil. So exactly what was George Wilcken Romney true citizenship status? I believe that he would have been required to apply for naturalization, but he did not. How can Mitt Romney be considered a natural born citizen, when his father was possibly an illegal alien , and not a US citizen?

Are you really going to make us defend a slime bag like Myth Romney from these kinds of BS claims? I wouldn’t vote for the man in a million years, but this is hardly necessary.

His father ran for President in 1968, what was said about it then?

Mitt Romney is not a natural born citizen if his father was never a citizen of the United States of America. Same argument applies to 0bama.

If Mitt must prove his citizenship, I can think of others as well.

Under the power enumerated by the Constitution to the Legislative Branch, from 1795 on to the present day, children born abroad to United States citizens are themselves citizens. This was the law according to the Naturalization Act of 1795 and every such Act since that time.

The 1795 Act repealed and replaced the 1790 Act, which stated that children born abroad (”beyond the seas”) were natural-born citizens. But, returning to the enumeration of powers to the Legislative branch, Congress had no authority over anything but naturalization. Natural-born is not naturalized. So, it was repealed and replaced with language conforming to the Constitution, which was just “citizen” and a naturalized-at-birth citizen at that.

Doesn’t matter. Anyone who votes for Romney but is against Obamacare is a total hypocrite. Masscare IS Obamacare, at the state level.

Posts like this are killing FreeRepublic. This is the 2nd kooky conspiracy post I’ve seen this evening. I suppose if one points out that this is crackpot stuff on par with 9-11 troofer toadies, they are automatically a Romneybot, right? Whatever. I don’t care for Romney at all, can find at least a dozen reasons not to vote for him and would never do it, but I refuse to let go of reason and become a laughingstock. I often wonder if the the originators of these types of posts aren’t just lefty trolls hijacking the site. If so, I’ll bet they think they are being real clever, because at the least, they are wasting everyone’s time here and, at the most, they are tainting this place to such a degree that it’s affected the credibility and integrity of this once-great site.
