Rand Paul, riding the momentum of his big Republican Primary win on Tuesday, now posts a 25-point lead over Democrat Jack Conway in Kentucky’s U.S. Senate race, but there’s a lot of campaigning to go.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Kentucky, taken Wednesday night, shows Paul earning 59% of the vote, while Conway picks up 34% support. Four percent (4%) percent prefer some other candidate, and three percent (3%) are undecided.

Paul consistently led Conway prior to winning the Republican primary, but had never earned more than 50% support. Conway has been stuck in the 30s since the first of the year. Last month, Paul posted a 47% to 38% lead over the Democrat.

How can this be? None other than Bob Beckel said that Rand’s win virtually guaranteed that seat to a Democrat....

HA!

Nice, but this is a post primary bounce. Don’t read too much into this.

They don’t know Kentucky and they also don’t know what people desire. I find Rand Paul refreshing. He says what so many of us have want to hear for a long time. He talks about really cutting government, he talks about a restrained government and the sovereign citizen. Poll after poll has shown a majority supports cutting government and spending yet our politicians continue to operate under the status quo as if it is crazy to suggest cutting government let alone really getting rid of a government agency. There is no reason why most of the federal government can not either be privatized, non-profitized, and localized to the state level. The only reason not to do it is centralized power and I think we see how well that has went. If the federal government did not have the right to raise taxes and had to get its funds from the states to operate then we’d never have a risk of the kind of federal debt we have today. States would be stronger and there would be no such thing as earmarks because money wouldn’t be flowing to Washington and back. Those who have bad inefficient local government would suffer alone for it.

We need to change our system to make sure the wisdom of our founders is re-established and protects us forever against the threat of centralized socialist government.

The media long knives are already out for all to see. The Cincinnati Enquirer just posted an article saying the Rand Paul would have opposed the Civil Rights Act.

It's not from where you think it is.

His full name is Randal, I believe.

There were a number of prominent Republicans opposed to the 1964 Civil Rights bill, among them Sens. Barry M. Goldwater and Margaret Chase Smith.

These people were not, as some would allege, white supremacists or racists as certain southern Democrats were.

Rather, they understood the limitations placed on the federal government as most of today's politicians do not.

Invalidating racial segregation laws that were then in place in certain states would have been justified under the Constitution.

Federal laws against private businesses and their (misguided, to be sure) practices of discrimination are not.

We have had to live with the consequences for the last 45 years as the federal tentacles have spread into many unforeseen areas of personal conduct: EEOC edicts, hate crimes laws, affirmative action rules, diversity training, quotas imposed on government contractors . . the list goes on.

One can be all in favor of equality without feeling compelled to endorse acts of the federal government that not only cannot possibly achieve it but, by their very nature, create inequality.

Quite so.

Our KY Repubs always poll up double-digits early on, then win by 100,000 votes. Rand Paul should win this one, but don't fall for the “easy win” memes.

We're going to need to fight, even in KY.

The latest manifestion of the unintended consequences of that act is the push for same-sex marriage.
