"I think however, that I will start using Safari (Apple's Browser) for Freeping as it has spell check built in."

That would not have done anything to help. Spelling was correct ... word was used improperly.

I think this might be good! its a cloud instead of a jet of leak coming out.

Now that they have gotten this far into it I think the odds of success are 75-80% ASSUMING that the well structure down hole is intact. If it isn’t the odds go down dramatically and the closer the structure failure is to the wellhead the bigger the problem becomes.

The "top kill" has apparently failed.

No surprise to some of us unfortunates.

Pinging Quix.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

One of my landmen (the one who showed me the live feed) says it’s maybe three feet across.

The lighter colored material is either natural gas or drilling mud.

Fangers Crossed...
Don't think I even want to know what that is...

It's Texspeak, you know, like the shangles on your roof.

Where are you watching? I clicked on the CNN link and I couldn’t make heads or tails over their live leak link. (My fangers can’t type those three words six times fast)

You are basing that on what?

"Once they can start pumping, how fast does the cement cure? How long before fully cured?"

Wish I could answer, but that one is outside my expertise. Perhaps the former "mud engineer" from post 75 can chime in.

About 24 hours, some faster than that.

I am beginning to worry now. Is there a possibility that the riser blew up completely?

The CNN feed looks like it is all mud.

You pump a liquid into a moving liquid it wants to get carried along with it and out the leak. It would take a massive pumping operation to overcome the natural flow of the leak with a heavier fluid.

Agreed. I've been wondering myself how they can get the heavy mud to overcome the massive force and pressure of the oil gushing out of the pipeline. I can't visualize how that will work.

It looks like that to me, too. To me it looks like the oil doesn’t stream like previously. Something is beginning to hinder it.

Crap! it looks like they made the holes bigger with the abrasive mud. Three hours ago they were distinct holes.

From BP’s live feed:

Please be aware, this is a live stream and may freeze or be unavailable from time to time.

Throughout the extended top kill procedure – which may take up to two days to complete - very significant changes in the appearance of the flows at the seabed may be expected. These will not provide a reliable indicator of the overall progress, or success or failure, of the top kill operation as a whole. BP will report on the progress of the operation as appropriate and on its outcome when complete.
