Tea Party vs Palin in Idaho House GOP primary, and Tea Party won

BOISE, Idaho — State Rep. Raul Labrador defeated Vaughn Ward in western Idaho's 1st Congressional District and punched his ticket to face incumbent Democrat Walt Minnick in November.

"My friends, the key to our renewal is liberty," Labrador told a cheering crowd at GOP headquarters in Garden City shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday. "The answer to Obamaism is liberty."

Ward, a Marine reservist and a first-time candidate, had a 6-to-1 money edge and the backing of the Idaho and national GOP hierarchy. Ward was a commanding presence on TV, while Labrador ran only a smattering of radio spots in the final two weeks. Both are from Eagle.

The House race grabbed national attention in the final days after Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate, came to Boise Friday to rally for Ward, who was the Nevada state director of the McCain-Palin campaign.

Ward’s campaign stepped on its John Thomas. It was nothing Labrador did.

Labrador is soft on illegal immigration, see his own comments and other sources: http://www.labrador4idaho.com/2010/05/rauls-comments-on-immigration-for-your-eyes-also/ and http://conservativetimes.org/?p=5465. He flew under the radar and decided to jump on the tea-party bandwagon. If he gets to Congress, he’ll be dependable vote for the rats on illegal immigration.

On there website, they lifted almost verbatim policy statements from Paul Ryan’s and Duncan Hunter Jr’s campaign websites. The attempt at fixing it didn’t work either. Also, in one of his speeches, the writer cribbed and rearanged some of Obama’s speech (nothing liberal, just grandiose nonsense). So he end up firing some staff towards the end of his campaign and the media (and his opponent) had a field day.

I hear Labrador is a pro-illegal immigration lawyer. Proof that the Tea Party candidate isn't always the one we want.

Yeah, the “Tea Party endorsed” stuff is getting tiresome, too. Some Tea Partiers endorsed Ward.

It is not some lock-step voting organization, and NOBODY is their leader making endorsements on their behalf.

Tea Party voters share many viewpoints, but they are still pluralistic.

Actually, not good in this case. Labrador sounds weasily about illegal aliens.

Well it appears this one was a crapshoot, his opponent had ethical issues.

Can someone tell me the true story of him ‘supposedly’ plagiarizing obama’s 2004 speech.

I tried to do a post earlier and it got deleted right away.

But it doesn't fit Rabs and the liberal media narrative that a Palin-endorsed candidate went down in flames.

I thought that “Tea Party” was the gathering, not a group or organization.

Ward had "... the backing of the Idaho and national GOP hierarchy."

That's the problem right there. Ward made so many mistakes, and these people were right there in his campaign.

Labrador is soft on illegal immigration

WRONG!!!

He is not one bit soft on immigration. Just because he is not shrill, does not mean he believes in amnesty etc.

He believes the borders should be shut immediently, by sending the national guard.

He believes ALL illegals should be sent back.

NO AMNESTY

Palin should have done her homework.

Labrador was always the conservatives choice, not just thetea party.

Ward was the RINOS choice to take out Sali originally, and the conservatives knew he was the phony Palin just found out he was.

You need to do your homework.

Labrador talks out of both sides of his phony mouth about amnesty.

You need to do your homework.

I know him very well. He explained his stand on immigration to me long before he ever dreamed of running for congress.

He is absolutely for closing the border, NO AMNESTY, etc etc etc.

And he has never changed 1 iota of his stand.

I haven't been on Freerepublic alot in the last few years because I am an activist in the conservative Republican movement here in Idaho.

He has told other people that he is for what would be an amnesty.

There are quotes on the net that show this.

I am telling you that this is not true. Do you know who Robert Vazques is?

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4800948

He supported Raul.

Vasquez made his entire campaign against illegal immigration.

The same people, RINOS, who helped take out a VERY conservative Republican congressman, Bill Sali, got Ward back from Virginia to run.

I am telling you Labrador will, NEVER tell a lie. Its not in him.
