“Okay, who here remembers DITHF?”

I do. I was a lurker forever, even before that. Somewhere in a box I have a videotape of the Free Republic rally, on a Memorial Day, I believe. I remember Clinton’s a Liar made a speech.

Wasn’t it during those days that Special Report started? And—of course—that makes me think of Tony Snow. Oh my—so many dearly missed FRiends!

“Remember “Italians” as in “Don’t forget to close your Italians” and all the pages that were huge letters and the piles of cartoons?”

I remember accidentally opening Mia T threads on a slow dialup connection.

LOL! I talked to so many freepers on the phone way back. Had lunch for the first time with a stranger, twit, had logos and his wife as a houseguest and was his houseguest too. We don’t do much of that anymore at FR. We’re too big.

Yes they were.

They eventually imploded

Those of us "of a certain age" are unlikely ever to forget Classy and Deep. Both epic internet frauds.

Names keep coming up! Remember Fred Mertz? I think he left on his own or for a disagreement.

One I will never forget was Michael Gallutia — who was one of the very first Freepers, before we were Freepers. Neat guy! He had a brilliant mind and was one of those who made FR such a success. Reading his posts made you think. He was also at the very first CPAC as we manned a booth. Even tho he was young enough to be my son, he always made sure I got back to my hotel room, always waited for me when we were going to lunch — but always as a friend, not as ‘mommy-sitter’. And great discussions with him! He just got busy and had to leave FR. Sorely missed!

Harrowup — you still around?

Yea, them were the days

I met a lot of FR people on the streets starting in 2000 when Gore was trying to steal the election

Went down to Fresno and rallied with the folks down there (and met Jim Thompson), and Sacramento and San Francisco

I met hundreds of Freepers at those events, and then at the Ball in 2001.

I could be mistaken.

You met Jim Thompson? In person? Is he as good looking as they say?

LOL. Those go back too far for me, even when I had WebTV in '98.

Ambrose posted the best variety of articles and he was brilliant on his own. I really liked and admired him and was proud and happy to call him a FRiend.

Here's one example from June 2005: FDIC warns of housing bubble !!!

I remember those days.

Mike Rivero was the one who introduced me to FR. Long before he went to the dark side . . .

I first joined as citizenX. Eventually self search had more entries for citizen and citizenx7 that it was impossible to see posts to me. I became Mr_Magoo. It worked for a while until there were 7 or 8 variations of Mr Magoo. Jim was kind enough to change everything to this one.
