I do know that some of that ilk went to an anarchist web board.

I found FR in 99, but didn’t sign up for awhile.
I lurked and read.
And laughed.

Then in October 2000 I decided to dive in, got depth charged, had a few torpedo runs done on me.
It was great.
But I will say that having to hand html your posts was a real pain.
I still don’t remember how I found this place. But it was at the right time, coming a month after our last victory.
Don't take it personally. You just inadvertently stumbled onto a memorable time in FR history.
And then it took off from there. Threads like this get started every once in a while.
Look at it this way: your posting is currently the sixth most popular article, and will probably keep going up.

I had a nutcase liberal friend at work who I kept telling to click onto FreeRepublic on his WebTV.
He came in one morning and said, "I finally went to that FreeRepublic.com place".

I was absolutely shocked at what Diva Betsy Ross did..shame on her.

I’ve been here 12 years and I have no idea what or who a Hurtgen Forest is!!!
People keep refering to it/her/him but never what or who it is!
It is mentioned above but the poster with the screen name “deep in the Hurtgen Forest” pretended to be a Special Forces guy on deployment many years ago and got a lot of sympathy for situtational distance etc from various Freepers. Sneakypete and others with SF experience began to doubt his bonafides and some conflict occured as some rose to his defense.
He finally admitted to being a poser and gave a goodbye that was part bittersweet apology and part rationalizing. I think he/they got started carrying out the charade and didn’t expect the sincere fellowship getting to him/them.
Sometimes in referencing that whole chain people will refer to “Deep” or “DTHF” to reference that poster and the whole charade.

Just up to grandkid number six. Getting ready to spend the weekend boating and doing little of real worth. Still have three to five years until I retire but I am looking forward to it.

Hey Cal. I remember my first conversation with you back in ‘98. You posted a thread about “what’s your favorite” something and I told you who was my favorite freeper instead (Clarity). They we started talking football, you said you were a Cowboy fan and I said I would never post to you again.
