Cleveland Rep. Fudge drafts bill to restrict ethics office that investigated her top aide!

U.S. Rep. Marcia Fudge has introduced legislation that would weaken a congressional ethics office that found her top aide improperly helped Congressional Black Caucus members take a free Caribbean trip that was funded by corporations.

Ethics watchdogs said Fudge's resolution would gut the independent office that Congress created after corruption scandals cast doubt on the House Ethics Committee's effectiveness. Previously, the Ethics Committee seldom took action against members of Congress because only members of Congress were allowed to initiate complaints, and few wanted to antagonize colleagues. The Office of Congressional Ethics investigates complaints from all sources and refers possible violations to the Ethics Committee for action. ...

Melanie Sloan, who heads the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, said Fudge's resolution would make the ethics office "entirely ineffectual without killing it altogether." She doubts it will be approved because Congress won't want to look soft on ethics before a tough election.

"The problem here isn't the Office of Congressional Ethics, it is congressional ethics," said Sloan. "Members of Congress are astonished that someone would hold them accountable."

(Note: Do read the reader comments for the article. They are a rather strong message as to how NE Ohio views their corrupt Democrat leaders.)

hmmmm..ethics committee doesn’t take action unless a member initiates it but they won’t initiate anything so as not to upset another member....

....Joseph Heller is alive and well.

This ‘theory’ is very reminiscent of the actions in VN.....we destroyed the village to save it.....

This stuff would be hilarious if it weren’t so serious and is just pushing us further down into the depths of hell....

Fudge was a longtime gofer for Stephanie Tubbs Jones the black woman who held this safe district until she died. Most Blacks don't give a sh*t about ethics in their officials, only color and payoff. Nothing will come of this skank's picking up where her dead boss left off.

I guess the committee is finding too many ethical violations. They must not have heard Nancy Pelosi when she said “This leadership team will create the most honest, most open, and most ethical Congress in history”. The obvious solution is to stop anyone from wasting valuable time on unnecessary investigations.

Now, I don’t consider myself as a racist, but I do find it odd that a black woman would be named “Fudge”

One of the PD article readers has the following post that summarizes Tubbs Jones early covering for the Cuyahoga Democratic party resulting in the current situation with many federal indictments pending, succinctly:

“What corruption was Stephanie Tubbs Jones of blessed memory involved in? One big one, and that was letting Frank Russo off to lie, cheat, and steal for another decade.

1998, Russo was indicted for theft in office, essentially using his office the way Democrat Benny Bonnano did, as a taxpayer funded campaign office. She indicted him on three felonies. Then, one of Stephanie Tubbs Jones’ assistant prosecutors ran Russo’s campaign for Auditor (he was indicted while Recorder before “honest” Pat O’Malley took over.

After the election, Stephanie dropped the felonies and allowed Frank to plead to a misdemeanor that kept him in office, and they threw a few assistants under the bus for almost nothing. She enabled Russo to continue to allegedly bilk, steal, and bribe Cuyahoga County to where we are today.

Like Bill Mason, Stephanie looked the other way on corruption with her fellow Democrats who have utterly ruined Cuyahoga County. Russo thrived, O’Malley set up his taxpayer financed campaign operation, McFaul was going full throttle and engaged in sexual harrassment.

That was Stephanie’s crime, enabling corruption. She also took a few legally questionable trips on taxpayer dime and special interest dime, and supported Palestinian terrorists time after time.

Other than that, she was clean.”

Historically, people's last names are often taken from the profession of their ancestors.
