Glenn Beck’s Founder’s Fridays have really inspired me to dig deep into the history of our founders. There was a clear and obvious divine power at work that brought our founders together.

We've not been able to prove it, but believe that the poor German rebel-rousers grandfathers that signed the Bradford accord were Messianic Jews who came to America for religious freedom.....
The Jewish and African communities (as Beck has pointed out) were very much involved in the Revolution and the early economic development of the country.

Could you share with those of us who can’t stream video??

Are you on dial up?

When I was on dial up, something that worked for me, I'd let the clip run through - slow and jerky as it was - while I went and had a cup of coffee or such - then come back and click replay and it would do pretty good

Sorry to hear that but glad for you as I know what a mess many of our schools are in. It's probably prohibited as well...

I have a feeling that referencing the creator will be an important part of the curriculum in the not to distant future. Those of us who survive will see it happen...

The common-meter tune is labeled as Old 100th for that tune. I do a lot of instrumental music arranging for church, so that one is familiar to me.

But I’d really like to collect $200. lol.

INCREDIBLE....

What a wonderful thing to come in from outside to see. I have been out enjoying our great weather and a wonderful day here on my mountain, and then to come in and experience THIS... my day has been perfected.

Obama likes to go on and on about hope.... it’s all talk with him. BUT, that man, that gentle Marine, that American loving patriot and Christian, demonstrates what hope really is and where it comes from.

Hope.... it is within each one of us, our Founding Fathers wanted us to live it and God himself put it into the heart of man.

Patriots are standing once again, they are coming forward....WE WILL PREVAIL.

God Bless America, again.

It didn't hit me until reading it here, that the first verse, which everyone knows and sings, ends not in a statement, but a question:

Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

It seems more important than ever that we continue to ask that question, and strive to keep the answer - "yes".

Thanks for posting that. I heard part of that second verse in a scene at the start of a football game from the movie entitled “The Sum of All Fears”. I always assumed it was another verse of the Star Spangled Banner, but I had never heard it before ever. Now I now for sure that it’s the second verse of our national anthem.

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Funny thing, too.

When I was in elementary school, we sang the fourth line as then kill if we must...

Cheers!

I— very humbly, and happily, and proudly can say — that I was able to sing it along with this fine gentleman. It is truely a verse with meaning — especially today.

Those last four lines have always been my favorites:
“Then conquer we must, for our cause it is just -—
And this be our motto “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave -—
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!”

(altho I must say that I thought the words were “FOR our cause — “ and not “WHEN our cause — “) I stand corrected. The word ‘when’ is as it should be.

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?

Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream: Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion A home and a country should leave us no more? Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave: And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand, Between their loved home and the war's desolation! Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation! The Doxology, which is actually the last verse of the 1674 hymn,

"Awake My Soul, and with the Sun"...

~~~~~~~~
"Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;"
"Praise Him, ye creatures here below;"
"Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;"
"Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost."
~~~~~~~~

I knew the answer, but, as an afterthought, also provided the links above, where you can hear the music and read the history and lyrics..

Black man at the podium in response to a young lady's question explains that we are are a God fearing nation and not to take "in God we trust" out of U.S. Government.

Next a former Marine in the crowd makes reference to the second verse of the Star Spangled banner, and then sings it.

I found the second verse to the Star Spangled Banner here:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/525287/posts

Second verse to the Star Spangled Banner:

Oh, thus be it ever when
free men shall stand
Between their loved homes
and the war's des-o-la-tion!
Blest with vic-t'ry and peace,
may the Heav'n res-cued
Praise the Pow'r that hath made
and preserved us a na-tion!

Then con-quer we must, when our cause, it is just,
And this be our mot-to:
"In God is our trust!"

And the Star-span-gled Ban-ner
in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free
and the home of the brave.

Yeah it is...Used it when I was teaching first graders...Help them understand what a legend was and what was based on truth or thing that we have proof to substantuate.

We learned AMERICA and some children get upset with the line "Land where my fathers died" Explained what forefather are with pictures of my forefathers, my grandparents and my grandmother's grandparents. (I also had the rolling pin that that grandfather made for grandma for her 8th birthday)

Then I explained that the grandfather's grandfather was probably in a camp described in Yankee Doodle....There was General Washington upon a silver stallion, a giving orders to his men I guess there were a thousand ....Told them the story (comparing it to the cherry tree story) and with the picture by Tully, they were hooked!

Actually, there aren't two verses, there are four.

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand

Everything is on the Internet.
To Anachiron in Heaven

The drinking-song words:

To Anacreon in Heav'n where sat in full Glee,
A few Sons of Harmony sent a Petition,
The He their Inspirer and Patron wou'd be,
when this Answer arriv'd from the Jolly Old Grecian
"Voice Fiddle and Flute no longer be mute

And besides I'll instruct you like me to Intwine
