South Korea blasts pop music, propaganda over the border

South Korea is waging war with pop music.

After the country formally accused North Korea of launching the torpedo that sunk their warship Cheonan, South Korea has declared psychological warfare in retaliation.

Their first missive into the hermit kingdom was a pop song.

Ended a six-year suspension against state-sanctioned propaganda, the South sent the message across the border through the airwaves.

Before airing a rebuke from South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, the broadcast features K-pop girl group 4minute singing their song "HuH (Hit Your Heart).”

The song was specifically chosen to irk the repressive regime with its liberating lyrics: "Baby, you're kidding me? I do what I want and I do it my way.”

South Korea had threatened to do this several weeks ago. The North immediately said they would shell the speakers. There was also an implied threat to take hostages of the several hundred South Koreans working at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea. It will be interesting to see what the North's response is today, especially given their recent internal power shifts this month.

That’s inhumane. At least they’re not using Jose Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad”. Yet.

Uh oh — if NK fires artillery shells at the speakers, Barry will have the crisis he wants and Biden will claim his “prophecy” came true

Khobar Towers, Embassies in Tanzania and Kenya, USS Cole, Beruit Marine Barracks, First World Trade Center bombing ... we didn’t always retaliate swiftly either.

And our capitol city and millions of our citizens are not in artillary range of a madman.

I never understood why South Korea was so foolish as to allow its citizens to go to this place while the Kim regime was still in power. Didn't anyone in Seoul think that these people could be used as bargaining chips?

Well if they are being forced to listen to 24/7 Lady GaGa that could be fairly severe.

That’s not funny, you.

Some of us were cheerleaders and on dance teams and we HAD to practice to that stuff 9309234 times in order to get our
performances right.

Or risk the wrath of The Dance/Cheerleading Coach, whose name shall not be revealed. But she was like G.S. Patton.

;)

It was part of the Sunshine Policy, which like many of America's policies over the years ran on the premise that if you are just nice enough to maniacal genocidal dictators their hearts will melt and they will cry and free everyone.

This policy has been highly successful in dealing with ... uh ... give me a minute...

Playing Yoko Ono music violates the Geneva Convention

“Top Secret” - 1984

Do you want me to bring out the LeRoy Neiman paintings?
No. We cannot risk violating the Geneva Convention.

A. The ROKs have always waged a Billboard War against the North along the DMZ. The North has huge signs declaring the great leader's attributes and the South has huge signs stating things like, "We have 50,000,000 cars."

B. The sixtieth anniversary of the North's invasion is in two weeks...June 25th.

I hate to say this but Asian women don’t age until they hit 40. I cannot tell the difference between a 16 yo asian woman and a 26 yo.

There is this vietnamese woman at my gym who is in her mid 30s but looks 23.

What this article is talking about is the broadcasting of pop music and propaganda over AM radio into North Korea. This is different from the propaganda speakers on the border which have not been turned on. South Korea has cancelled plans to turn on those speakers after the North threatened to shoot at them, Soeul backed down.

Perhaps they should broadcast infomercials. Once they see that the outside world spends outrageous amounts of money on useless crap they will revolt.

Oh no.

I’d suggest waiting until the wind is just right and flying in specialist teams of experts from Texas or North Carolina and deploying....

barbecue.

You could do the same for prison hunger strikes, for that matter.

On a more serious note- the hell that the North Korean population lives under is mind-boggling.

Someday it’ll end. I hope I live to see it.
