GULF SHORES, Ala. -- Fifteen-year-old Dakota Byrd kicked sand over a puddle of black oil lining Gulf Shores beach.
As far as he could see Saturday afternoon, the white sand at the shoreline had turned black.
"I want to get rid of it," he said. Byrd looked into joining the cleanup effort, but he's too young.
Summer for him and his Gulf Shores buddies, he said, along with many others who enjoy the Alabama coastline, "is done."

I’m beginning to wonder if (apart from the other obvious reasons) Obama has managed to skate from this crisis for so long because it took so long for the oil to start washing ashore.
This is criminal, Mr President. And you are too blame.
Obama can safely write off the Gulf states. He wasn’t going to win any of them anyway. So, he’s free to ignore the spill and the clean-up while using the “crisis” to bash oil companies and halt oil production.
Why should Obama care if Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida vote for his opponents in 2012? He wasn’t going to win those states so why should he lift a finger to help?
The similarity between black oily waves washing over once pristine shoreline the current administration’s efforts to destroy America are too obvious to ignore.
Damn, damn, damn, dammit to HELL! I’m gonna cry!
Obama loves this. This is a socialist’s dream. The oil spill will eventually destroy 1.5 million jobs and make those people long dependents upon the government. That translates to votes for the Marxists.
If Bush were still President I suspect the media might be treating the whole mess just a little differently.
Yeah, that’s what I meant about the “other obvious reasons.”
Hard to believe, since we’re always told that the MSM is too “right-leaning” as it is.
The ruse (to tax the begeebes out of oil) backfired aqnd made the Wizzard of BOZ out to what he is, a HUMBUG!!!
Correct, but the rest of America is PO’ed at him now...
There isn’t the money to support them.
“black oily waves”?? Kind of like what washed over the Executive and DOJ?

True. Obama has been lucky until now. Now it is washing ashore and yielding prime video and photo-ops. Even if the well was plugged tomorrow there is 50 days backlog of more oil and crud rolling to shore whether it is beaches or estuaries or mangrove swamps. And reality is we have at least 60 more days until the relief wells stop the flow (hopefully). So we are only seeing the beginning of 110 days worth of gushing oil reaching the shore
Hopefully 0bama ends up toast because of this and he deserves it for being such a do nothing with a big mouth. Just a low IQ con man like his rap star buddies like JayZee. Another iron pumping mo-ron.
this did not have to happen...
Who needs Alberta’s “Oil Sands”?
We have our own.
The oil cleanup will create all of those green jobs that pay minimum wages.
Being a native of Alabama, I’ve spent much time enjoying Gulf Shores the sugar sand and saltwater. I believe you are spot on when you write of the amount of oil still to cover the coast that is to come.
I wonder if it were Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, would the response be any different.
Thanks O for nothing.
Maybe the oil will eventually find its way there.
I’ve been saying for weeks that Obama could care less if states that didn’t vote for him and never will are covered in oil. Every particle of this thing is political. The Kenyan hates America anyway - why should he care how polluted it gets?
That about says it for me.
The Mississippi Coast is in trouble. I was stationed there 25 years ago and the Gulf currents push the debris off like a lagoon. Those folks have weathered alot but this may be to much.
I wonder if it were Marthas Vineyard and Nantucket, would the response be any different.>>>>>>>
It would be vociferous and loud. The attitude in Obama’s DC is “It’s just a bunch of rednecks there on the Gulf coast who don’t vote for us anyhow”
Ivan and Katrina damaged the beaches but where was the moaning and groaning then?
People just got off their asses and worked on getting it cleaned up.
On Fox News Sunday you actually had Brit Hume and Bill Crystal saying it was not obama's fault. The media got their marching orders. It's sickening.
Americans want to work. Americans want to jump in and solve problems.
But the government has a thousand reasons why we just can't do stuff like that anymore.
And after I heard that I promptly turned them off. Clueless.
