Elton John 'a Little Surprised' at Rush Limbaugh Wedding Invite
PEOPLE ^ | Tuesday June 15, 2010 03:15 PM EDT | Jeffrey Slonim

Posted on 06/15/2010 1:13:08 PM PDT by rface

Add Elton John to those who were not expecting him to get an invite to Rush Limbaugh's wedding.

"To put it in Elton's exact words, when he got the invitation, he was 'a little surprised,' " his partner David Furnish told PEOPLE on Sunday at the Tony Awards in New York. "And then, when it turned out to be a genuinely sincere invitation … Elton said, 'Life is about building bridges, not walls.' "

John also saw it as another opportunity, in his words, "to go where people wouldn't expect me to go."

"And maybe if I can make a great impression," Furnish quoted him as saying, "people might change their perspectives on life."

Furnish was in Europe and couldn't attend the wedding. But John told him it was a beautiful event and Limbaugh and his bride "were incredibly gracious and very welcoming and very sweet and very appreciative."

"Elton, during the performance made a lot of cracks: 'I suppose you all wonder why I'm here tonight?' " says Furnish. "But ultimately, it's a bit like an olive branch, I guess."

By all accounts, John and the couple got along well. "I wasn't there, but from everything Elton told me, he said Rush and his bride were incredibly charming and welcoming. And they have said they want to come and have dinner with us in England, if they pass through in their travels."

The tentative offer was welcomed. "We have to bring the world together, not apart," said Furnish, who produced Next Fall with Sir Elton on Broadway.

If Elton lives to be 200, he couldn’t spend all he has...

..."that's where I am at." Never end a sentence with a preposition.

"that's where I am at, you pompous know-it-all."

There. Fixed it.

I couldn’t even listen to Rush today because all he could do was gush on and on about the whole wedding and his new friend Elton. He was totally breathless. I would have been so happy for Rush but after the 4th it’s just kind of........well, I don’t know what to say! Whatever happened to “the lovely and gracious Marta”? Does Rush think that a 33 yr old woman is really interested in him or could it be his millions and millions of $$$? I’m just venting because I love Rush but just feel kind of embarrassed for him.

Rush didn’t really give him a million dollars but a rifle rack with some shotguns, a civil war rifle and a confederate flag. Elton was pink.

Wow. You’re old.

(I’m just kidding you)

But he will, no doubt, have more hair.

Curious as to how long Rush and his bride have been going out. She’s been planning the marriage since September (and is the one to select the entertainment).

Rush said today that it was strange that after having a black preacher and an openly gay singer in his wedding (and it is the LEFT that has blistered Elton John for being there), the left calls HIM (Rush) the bigot!

Well, depends where you live. If you live in a small town, then the less than 5% rule applies; if you live in a big city, then throw the low number out, and it would likely be 10-15% in some places (NY, Chi, SF, Hou, Mia).

Reminds of the time years ago when he was going on and on and on about another great day of golf at another fabulously expensive golf resort. I called the show, got through to the screen caller and told him that Rush was being boring and turning off a lot of long time listeners.

The guy was nice to me, but I didn't get on the show, big surprise there.

that’s cool, but I wish that Rush had spent less time talking about his wedding today and more time talking about tonight’s nationally televised, Hugo Chavez-like expropriation of an oil company.

LOL. Fair enough

Public faux pas #27: Never bring attention to a woman’s age.

She was my 2nd grade teacher, now deceased. I think she'd be happy to know I actually learned something. :-)

As long as they don't try to remake society in their own image, then I say, I could care less who somebody sleeps with.

It used to be that way. Before they started demanding that everyone tell them how normal they are, few people gave the issue any thought. The homosexual masses do not, however, want to live and let live. They demand that we not just tolerate, but embrace and celebrate what they do. I believe it is at the core a desperate desire to feel normal when they know they're not.

Well, since it’s become all the rage to talk about our sexual identities, I decided to quit living this lie and be upfront with everyone about which way I swing. I decided to use FR as my forum to come out of the closet about a month ago.

It’s true. I’m a male lesbian.

I guess I’ve “known” that I was a male lesbian ever since I was a teenager. I was always more attracted to girls than boys and even though it was a bit odd and made me feel like an outcast. But you gotta be what you are, and for me....it’s male lesbianism forever.

“I have gay friends and gay relatives.
I love them very much.
As long as they don’t try to force their philosophy and lifestyle on the yutes, it ain’t my bitch...”

My thoughts exactly.
