BP Oil Spill: Against Gov. Jindal's Wishes, Crude-Sucking Barges Stopped by Coast Guard
ABC ^ | 17 June 2010 | DAVID MUIR and BRADLEY BLACKBURN

Posted on 06/17/2010 4:24:50 PM PDT by Hoodat

Eight days ago, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal ordered barges to begin vacuuming crude oil out of his state's oil-soaked waters. Today, against the governor's wishes, those barges sat idle, even as more oil flowed toward the Louisiana shore.

"It's the most frustrating thing," the Republican governor said today in Buras, La. "Literally, yesterday morning we found out that they were halting all of these barges."

Sixteen barges sat stationary today, although they were sucking up thousands of gallons of BP's oil as recently as Tuesday. Workers in hazmat suits and gas masks pumped the oil out of the Louisiana waters and into steel tanks. It was a homegrown idea that seemed to be effective at collecting the thick gunk.

"These barges work. You've seen them work. You've seen them suck oil out of the water," said Jindal.

So why stop now?

Hillary told us the democrats wanted to take the oil profits away from the oil companies and do something else with them (long before this oil spill).

This whole "crisis" smells rotten.

Economy crash just before Obama's election - which leads to "financial reform" and industry takeovers.

Swine Flu "epidemic" just before passage of the health bill.

Oil platform explosion and an out-of-control oil spill just before the Cap and Trade Bill gets through Congress.

...I think we're ALL smelling some rats here. We're being played for fools.

The state should make it a state crime with a penalty of death to interfere with it’s cleanup operations... And then shoot the SOBs.

“The Coast Guard needed to confirm that there were fire extinguishers and life vests on board”

A quick pitstop at WalMart could have gotten everything needed. Meanwhile the oil continues gushing as the feds keep stalling.

The Feds attacked the Waco people after 51 days and 87 men, women, and children died as a result.

Instead, I'm beginning to think that Obama wants this disaster to become a catastrophe. He wants to destroy the economies and the people of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. They are, after all, the enemy -- red states

I don't think so. He very much needs the votes of the young environmentalist leftists, and they're growing more disillusioned with each day that features more oil-covered wildlife dead and dying. I think he just has no clue what to do.

Personally I thought all the hand-wringing over his spending "only" 20 minutes meeting with the BP CEO was idiotic. 20 minutes was 20 too many in my opinion -- what the heck is going to be accomplished by President Obama, who knows nothing whatsoever about oil wells, meeting with the CEO of BP? On the other, he could have made much better use of that 20 minutes by using it to ensure that senior staff would be reachable and prepared to respond 24/7 whenever anyone as important as the Governor of a Gulf state called. That would have been a proper function of the CEO of the United States of America; meaningless yakking with an oil company CEO accomplished absolutely nothing that couldn't have been accomplished by senior staffers trading e-mailed memos on their respective bosses' behalf.

It's certainly very harmful to President Obama's political prospects to have outlets like ABC News publishing stories quoting governors of Gulf states complaining that the federal government is being of no help whatosever, and even actively interfering, and quoting Jindal as saying he "tried" to reach the White House in an unsuccessful attempt to stop the Coast Guard from interrupting the operation of oil-sucking barges.

"The governor said he didn't have the authority to overrule the Coast Guard's decision, though he said he tried to reach the White House to raise his concerns."

Sorry, Bobby, that's a FAIL on your part. As many have said, you should have told the Coast Guard to respectfully "F**K OFF!" and called in your state militia to protect the barges while they continued their work.

Calling Uncle BO in Washington to tell the Coast Guard to stand down made it even worse. Did you really think he'd be there for you? Do you not understand that these sorts of orders come from the very top?

FAIL, Bobby, FAIL. Do not even think of running for president anytime soon. You need to grow a pair, first.

We need to have the same safety standards as Canada - a relief well needs to be drilled at the same time - and tapped into in case of a catastrophe like what's happening in the Gulf. The problem is there is an upfront cost that is greater than the scenario presently employed.

BP and the US played the odds and lost - big time.

Does anyone imagine that Conservatives benefit from Barton apologizing to BP?

There is Obama stupid, and then there is really stupid.

Yes, but the child-molesting cultists in Waco didn’t have the have the political support of tens of millions of American voters. Any and all serious efforts to mitigate the environmental damage from this oil gusher DO have that support, and have it from all points across the political spectrum, especially the young environment-obsessed left, which was a critical voting block in getting President Obama into the White House, and will certainly be needed if he’s going to get back in the White House for another 4 year stint.

Dear Reader sent the coast guard to harass the Governor just like he sent the shock troopers to march around and harass the grannies at the Tea Party.

Paging Gov. Jindal:

Station Louisiana State Patrol officers outside of every CG base and housing area and ticket like there’s no tomorrow for every minor infraction.

The commies will have their crisis. Don’t try to get in the way of it.

They require suffering.

And they certainly wouldn’t want to give a Republican an edge in all of this.

Look. Just stop reading this stuff, get to work and pay your taxes. nobama wants you to shut up. All praise nobama. Just think...all these emergencies and crises and nobama is probably sitting tonight eating expensive beef, smoking ciggies and drinking beer in the white house watching the NBA final game. Life is good if you are king. The so-called “man” is a feckless oscitant.

Forgive me 68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub...

FWIW, somethin' tells me that what we've got here just ain't the Coast Guard ol' Tonk knew and loved, and right about now, given his vantage point away up in the crow's nest, I'm pretty sure he knows that better 'n' we do.
