Limbaugh bashes GOP for Barton response Posted: June 21st, 2010 04:05 PM ET
From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney
(CNN) Conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh is taking aim at Republican leaders for rushing to demand Texas Rep. Joe Barton retract his controversial apology to BP CEO Tony Hayward during last week's congressional hearing.
On his radio show Monday, Limbaugh suggested the GOP leadership likely agrees with Barton's sentiments, but are driven by recent national polls which suggest the majority of Americans support President Barack Obama's push for BP to set aside $20 billion for future liability claims.
"It was a shakedown pure and simple," said Limbaugh, echoing the words for which Barton later apologized. "And somebody had the audacity to call it what it was and now everybody's running for the hills."
"All you have to do is look at the polling," Limbaugh continued. "We're talking about Republicans inside the beltway. All you have to do is look at the polling data and media coverage and find out what they are going to do."

What Barton said wasn’t popular, and it sure wouldn’t win friends at a time that everyone is demonizing BP, but on principle he is right.
They had a right to due process.
As he rightly should.
You Go Rush
Rush you are wrong. I want to win in November not defend a grossly negligent foreign corp to score negative publicity points.
Interestingly enough the “escrow account” was “suggested” by president Soros and the Center for American progress on May 3rd.
Is that old wind bag still on the air ?
Zero just wanted to look like he had done somethng when in fact, as usual he had done nothing!
We don’t have any leadership in Washington. As a group, they are whores & cowards.
;-)
BP wanted to drill in 50 foot deep water and the government said absolutely not.
So then BP said ok we’ll drill down 500 feet and still the government said no.
So, BP was essentially forced to drill 35,000 foot down offshore.
And everybody is shocked something went wrong?
I never used to buy BP gas before April 20. Now it’s the ONLY gas station I go to.
When we take back congress in November, the first thing that needs to be done is REMOVE John Boner from the leadership position. I have watched this guy closely for years. He talks a good conservative game but is really a fraud. He is NOT a true conservative. We need to make Pence the speaker. Then in the Senate, make Jim Demint the leader.
We must get rid of the mooshy country club republicans, starting with Boehner
They're trying to milk this issue for all it's worth to divide conservatives.
Won't work. It's already yesterday's news despite Emmanuel's trying to whip it up yesterday and CNN trying to help him today.
Keep up the talk on the drilling moratorium instead. That one's got long legs and will hurt Dems a LOT.
As well he should. The Republican leadership is worthless and a pack of panty-waists.
Rush is correct. Who oversees this fund? An Obama
appointee. How did Zer0 come to $20 Billion?
Why not $60 or $100?
Meanwhile Zer0 is doing nothing, nothing and more nothing.
Forget about due process. Hopey changey. This is purely Marxist.
Hugo Chavez is proud of his comrade and it sure whet’s your appetite.
I’ll take the appropriate rule of law over politics any day.
Amen. Barton may be getting some shakedown money from the oil industry too. Protect American citizens first please.

John Boehner 1-202-225-6205; Eric Cantor 1-202-225-2815.
Big shout-out to Goat Boy for golfing eighteen holes and watching baseball for three hours.
Rahm the Ballerina walks around in the nude finger-poking other nude men.
Feinman is independent and asks Goat Boy what that means.
Goat Boy waited fifty-nine days then had his Coast Guard check life vests and fire extinguishers.
Maybe Red Adair and Boots 'n' Coots used tire guages on seven hundred oil well fires in the first Gulf War.
Saul Alinsky is unavailable to fuel my truck--where do I get one o' them windmills?
Meanwhile next year's economic asteroid looms larger--but, hey, the fairies are shrieking, "O the yacht!"
Goat Boy's got a pimpmobile with five-inch ballistic armor, run-flat tires, and glass so thick they have to keep the interior lights on all the time.
And it runs on. . .Robert Gibbs' magic butt.
And what really torques me is how BP CEO Hayward put a ban on gulf drilling--
Wait.
Rush, as usual, is right. Our ‘president’ is a thug. His administration practices thuggery. It is one thing to recognize that BP has made mistakes. It is another thing altogether to bully them; Obama’s behavior is illegal. We must have a dozen reasons to impeach this SOB. Any takers?
Yeah, go with the polls!
LMAO!!
All Texas politicians understand the importance of the oil business and get donations from the industry...not shakedown money as you yankee's call it.....if you pulled your head out of the sand for a moment...that is what Barton was trying to do....keep zero and his minions from stealing 20 billion dollars from the American people!
You, sir, are on a roll!
You want to win what? If we win with people who are afraid to tell the truth , what have we won?
Barton is right, Rush is right.
Boehner and the neo-Statists are WRONG.
Boehner does NOT deserve to lead anything but a group of kindergarteners on a walk through the Capitol building.
What Joe Barton said was the truth. The $20 billion IS a shakedown.
Ah we told the truth about Obama and he still won.
Barton was correct. Reactions like this from the Republicans are a huge reason that the Tea Party came into being.
So, BP was essentially forced to drill 35,000 foot down offshore.
Library user, you need to find another library to get your information from... where did you get 35,000 ft from?
You need to be more careful with your data, unless you are a LIBERAL/DEMORAT, then you do not have to worry about FACT, as long as you feel good about what you are posting.
Barton called it. It was/is a shakedown. Pure and simple. Saying otherwise just shows a lack of backbone and/or corruption. BP is no hero, but that doesn’t nullify calling a spade a spade. (And, no, that’s NOT a racial slur.)
“Interestingly enough the escrow account was suggested by president Soros and the Center for American progress on May 3rd.”
I also watched Glenn Beck today. Great show.
My finger bumped the “3” key. I meant 5,000.
“Ah we told the truth about Obama and he still won.”
We are going after the wrong people. We should be boycotting the MSM and sending letters to companies who advertise stating we will no longer buy their products if they advertise.
It is the MSM that created Obama. And it is the MSM that protects him.
Do you think maybe that obamma doing nothing is part of the plan of eventually insisting on a shakedown of BP?
What Barton said wasnt popular, and it sure wouldnt win friends at a time that everyone is demonizing BP, but on principle he is right.
They had a right to due process.
Bingo!
100% dead on right! Rush got it and so did you! Yet another reason I’m NOT a Republican.
And by the way, this $20 billion slush fund that’s supposed to be handled by an “independent 3rd party” — WHEN DID KENNETH FIENBERG, OBAMA’S PAY CZAR, BECOME AN INDEPENDENT 3RD PARTY!?!?!
We have an old saying where I come from: “Don’t pee down my back and tell me it’s raining...”
What he said.
This is f-ing tyranny of the 1st degree. Little Mussolini hard at work.
A good one Phil.
Limbaugh will probably lose some listeners in our area. Take that for what you will.
I don’t think people who don’t have the gun of this spill cocked directly at them and their way of life realize just how scarring an event this is already been.
We’re not just talking about beach cleanup here. We are talking about the very possible destruction of a way of life that has existed for 300 years and a situation which, if we never recover from it, will probably force the lions share of people down here to leave and never come back, a transition of the population not seen since the Great Migration of the blacks 100 years ago.
That’s why if you’re not from the part of the world that’s dealing with the first hand you really have no business commenting on it because you don’t realize what’s at stake.
As for McConnell, he showed real promise until he actually got the job.
New Congressional majority means nothing with the same old leadership.
Watch your blood pressure Phil. Take a trip to the beach, relax on the white sand, take a dip in the blue waters of the Gulf...WAIT...!!
I’m sick and scared of what’s happening, praying for a solution fast!
Please explain how accepting the Left's premises is going to help win Congress for the Republicans.
Groveling and caving in to the Democrats is exactly why the GOP is out of power right now.
I was disappointed the Republicans insisted he apologize. He was right and they let PC or fear of criticism be more important than the truth.
Rush was also right, as usual.
Acting like democrats will not win in November. Calling out the White House on an illegal shakedown will continue to inform the American people about what is wrong with this disastrous leftist administration.
Well thats partially true. The problem is the majors do want to drill deepwater. Shelf drilling is easier, but deepwater has much larger resevoirs. Most of the majors and mid-majors partner up to tackle these deepwater wells because if they produce, they become gamechangers.
So, the shelf might be attacked by enviros, but the oil companies do want to drill in deepwater, also.
I don’t think it was a shakedown. I think it was a deal to insulate the BP execs from criminal and probably civil liability.
BP had Jamie Gorelick at the table. You don’t call her unless you are about to screw over the United States in grand fashion.
BP cashed in all their campaign donation chips.
Regardless of what is happening, the Constitution has not been suspended because of the situation. The Executive branch is operating outside its powers.
WHY hasn't this been repeated yet ????
It should have been - and it should be on every post about D.C.
It should be on Drudge every day - Rush. Levin, Savage, Hannity etc should begin each day with this utterance - it should be in headlines here on FR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND, we should demand in every state, that if someone in D.C. has been there over 6 years, they have to go, including the staff (actually, they are ALL guilty of treason anyway, but I want them to know that 6 years is the limit regardless) - this should be on every state ballot as an amendment this November, and effective immediately.
AND if those DC scourge say anything about this violating the Constitution, remind them that THEY have ignored the Constitution for the LAST time; and that they are NOW guilty of treason; for allowing that American Hating Muslim to step one foot in the White House. He is NOT qualified to be president even if he was spawned in the Lincoln bedroom per the Constitution; Article II Section 1 AND the 14th Amendment - they have ALL violated their oath of office, and I repeat, guilty of treason.
remember, “When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands .......”
It does say people - not sheeple.
To my fellow Patriots, it is NECESSARY.
When peaceful revolution becomes impossible, violent revolution is inevitable . JFK
” It should be on Drudge every day - Rush. Levin, Savage, Hannity etc should begin each day with this utterance “
O)f the four, only Savage has been real critical of the RINO Republicans. He likes Michele Bachmann, as she is pretty much fearless. I do too.
DeMint has fought back. So has Rep. Issa
3 people out of hundreds in D.C. doesn’t cut it. We have no leadership.
That's no reason to apologize. To me it looks like Barton apologized for telling the truth.
...and it sure wouldnt win friends at a time that everyone is demonizing BP
This isn't about winning friendships or hurt feelings, this is about getting to the truth even if it offends some on either side of the issue.
They had a right to due process.
That was a show trial, pure and simple. It had nothing to do with "due process", or justice, or righting wrongs. This was pure politics on display.
