So who's the lucky [sarc] dude who gets to carry out Obama’s Afgan policy now?

One Way Obama Could Save Face . . . [Daniel Foster]

Refuse McChrystal’s resignation. The general is a man of honor, and no idiot. There’s a good chance he’ll show up in Washington with a resignation letter in hand. President Obama could refuse it, and then go to the public and say something like, “our efforts in Afghanistan are too important to let an unfortunate lapse of judgment like this undermine them. So I told General McChrystal that he must finish his task, and that I would not accept his resignation at this time.”

This might allow Obama to look like the bigger man while having it both ways. He’d avoid adding instability to his command structure at a crucial juncture in the war in Afghanistan, and avoid looking weak by not dismissing an insubordinate general.

The messaging would be: McChrystal knew he goofed up, and came to me with his gun and his badge. But this was my call, and I did what was best for the country.

Obama will come out looking much worse than McChrystal. That’s what matters. I feel like I am seeing Obama’s presidency (how I hate typing those words!) crumble before my eyes! Beautiful sight!

Duncan Boothby RESIGNS: McChrystal Aide Steps Down In Wake Of Rolling Stone Piece

Duncan Boothby, a “senior media aide” to Gen. Stanley McChrystal, has resigned in the wake of an explosive Rolling Stone expose that features McChrystal’s staff openly criticizing key members of the Obama administration.

The Washington Post reported that Boothby, a civilian press aide, “was heavily involved in arranging access for journalist Michael Hastings to McChrystal and his staff this year so Hastings could write the profile, titled ‘The Runaway General.’”

Methinks McChristal wanted out. He also may have seen the writing on the wall regarding his future. This whole thing is becoming Vietnam Redux with politicians running the military strategy and short term thinking for political purposes.

No he can’t. He’s still a General after he resigns. Now if he resigns his commission and forfeit all his retirement then he will truly be free to speak.

Having said that, it’s unlikely he would be punished for speaking out as a retired general.

Considering all that President Obama has going off right in the midst of his shit at the moment, I somehow doubt that the resignation of his commanding general in Afghanistan could be regarded as something he'd get mileage out of.

Of course, this is Obama we're talking about, so you never really know.

No rational President would want this, anyway.

Did McChrystal plan the whole thing?

The war in Afghanistan started with the first major attack on US soil since the war of 1812 (the Japanese chucked a few shells into California in WWII). But the word came out last week that we were pulling out of Afghanistan. And when the Taliban and Al Quida march into Kabul, and a giant Mosque goes up over ground zero there will be no way to deny that we have lost the war. McChrystal had to find a way to quit before he had to be the man to turn off the lights. So he picks a fight with OBozo and get himself fired. Now some other poor slob has to go down in the record books as the general who lost the war in Afghanistan.

McChrystal was be fully aware of the consequences of openly criticizing his CIC.

However this came down, it was McChrystal who orchestrated it.

What's wrong Barry does McChrystal have your butt over a Chicago mud hole? Barry is Screeeeeerred that he may publicly say how stupid his your war rules are that gets our troops killed after his retirement.

Tomorrow, McChrystal should let it be known that he wants his extra 30 to 40 thousand troops and change his asinine ROEs.

Reports of the meeting seem like too many sh't faced sophomores.
