I still cannot get my arms around this situation. I don’t know the General. I don’t know what is going on in Afghanistan right now, other than accounts I can read.
I am perfectly willing to entertain the concept that the General is playing an elaborate game of chess against someone used to playing checkers, and who is willing to sacrifice his career to prevent a debacle in Afghanistan.
I am even willing to consider that he never voted for Obama as he said he did, and that there is some byzantine reason for his saying so.
But if not, even if McChrystal never said anything himself, if he allowed his subordinates to display open insubordination in the presence of a weasel from Rolling Stone without having some kind of motive, this is simply poor leadership and bad judgement on its face.
Given his record, I simply am having a difficult time reconciling his actions.
I don’t play chess anymore, so I could be missing something on his part, and I will willingly concede that is possible.
I wish that it were indeed calculated. I would be comforted to think that he has rationale to explain this in a satisfactory way, other than poor judgement.

General McChrystal either is more tone deaf than Obama and has no sense of judgement or he wanted out. However, if he wanted out, there were better ways to do it than like this. Hope all those on his staff enjoy retirement also. What’s the chances of Foxnews picking him up as a military analyst to get interviewed by O’Reilly, Beck and Hannity? I’d make sure I’m watching....
I think I can answer that. It appears to have been taken in the rotunda of the Al Faw Palace, Camp Victory, Baghdad. In which case the troops would have come from Camp Victory, Liberty and possibly Camp Slayer. There's a good chance some convoy personnel are included however none of the 3 bases are FOBs or what you would call front line. Personally, I wouldn't want to discredit them. We had some super fine people over there.

Supposedly, McChrystal voted for “that Marxist quisling”. If so, he needs to leave.
You need to do more research on Mattis. He'd be a great choice, for Obama that is, and would fit right in with Obama's agenda to grind down our military and lose Afghanistan.
Of course he's no perfumed prince, and up until recently he had an outstanding career and was universally admired and respected by all ranks. Then he threw it all away and dishonored himself by his shameful actions in the Haditha Marines trials.
He demonstrated that he's more than willing to throw his men under the bus to advance his career, so yes, he's just the type of general Obama needs: a widely accepted public reputation for excellence (by the uninformed) to give the regime cover, but a deeply flawed character willing to put his career ahead of his men.
