If I were Petraeus, I would dread this duty.

I can’t imagine why Petraeus would accept the position unless he gets to tell Obama how things are going to be and then make the necessary changes. Does he have the option of refusing the move, or is he stuck doing whatever Obama wants him to?

I wonder if Obama will take questions...

Like,..”do you feel this episode reflects a lack of confidence of your military commanders for your administration’s national security capabilities?”....something like that....

...or will another fly land on his lip and he just walks away...

Thank God George W. Bush won the war in Iraq or this thing will seriously be imploding under the lack of leadership that this administration displays.

We're still a tad nervous. The war was won, but things are still in the precarious stages.

We wouldn't worry if we had a real CiC in charge, but we don't...

so who gets CENTCOM?

I'd bet Petreaus is only temporary until they can pick a permanent replacement. Right now they're ushering McChrystal out through the back door and not allowing him to return to Afghanistan. His service is over immediately. They need someone to watch over it in the interim.

Obama hand-picked McChrystal. McChrystal told Obama what he needed to do the job. Obama didn’t give it to him.

Obama brought all of this on HIMSELF.

FAIL.

General Petraeus can’t handle both CENTCOM and Afghanistan.

Well maybe he will just lead the war "part-time", sorta like the oil guy is just part-time?

Sounds like a demotion to me. While McChrystal had to go to retain whatever slim strands of executive leadership, O’s hostility toward the military, lack of engagement in Afghanistan, and general inability to juggle more than one issue at one time are the root causes behind this ruin of an able general.

..there was no way that Obama was going to keep this guy on....frankly,..who would in his shoes? If someone doesn’t like the way things are running,..they should resign...otherwise they are not effective in revealing the disastrous decision-making.
