What were they doing this far from Mexico? Maybe they were going to smuggle the girl to Canada?

Won't do any good to deport them if they are caught...

A pack of coyotes dug holes UNDER her fence, came into the yard and got the dogs. All of them.

Tell that lady to get some larger dogs.

If the girl had some AmStaffs with her, she would have been fine!

Never underestimate a coyote. And while you’re at it, take the longstanding advice of American Indians and *never* trust a coyote.

Coyotes are very different from other canines. They are also smart enough to have survived an extermination campaign by the US government. Even today, while about 400,000 are killed every year, they still kill as many as 250,000 sheep.

Coyotes are also tactical experts. They have an inherent ability to look at a place and determine the best course of action, whether they are the predator or the prey.

Their territories are expansive, so there is no part of North America where they will not turn up. There have been recent sitings in Harlem and Central Park, NYC.

And, unfortunately, they are learning that humans are not always to be afraid of. There has been a spate of coyote attacks against mostly children in California in recent years. And, of course, a rabid coyote will attack about anyone, anytime.

For some time it has been feared that coyotes would cross breed with wolves, who are normally their enemies. Because wolves have a very developed intelligence, this would be such a dangerous animal that “shoot on sight” orders have been given if a forest ranger meets a suspected mix in the wild.

I see Coyotes roaming all over Colorado Springs CO., just looking for an easy meal. I’m reminded of an old Indian saying: Never, never, never, never trust a Coyote. Words to live by.

“I’m reminded of an old Indian saying: Never, never, never, never trust a Coyote.”

Odd. That’s what I’ve heard Mexicans say...

Of course when I call my local state wildlife leftists about the coyote problem in the area, I get told over and over that there is no problem and no danger.

I'm more worried about the local coyotes interbreeding with feral dogs myself. There have been some rumors that it's already happening in the Chicago burbs.

A pack of coydogs roaming the suburbs is a pretty scary thought.

Average about 20 weekends a year day and night on ranches and farms here eradicating vermin. Seems of late the vermin most found and “caught” is the meth heads going after anhydrous ammonia tanks the farmers leave in the fields.

I hate skinnin those so I just let Sheriff come get em.....

Coyotes in urban areas DO ATTACK small children and pets on a regular basis. More than likely they are reported as a dog bite verses a coyote attack.

Just my experience....

Coyotes are all over Western CT. No doubt they'd venture closer to the City.

Coyotes, foxes, deer, turkey, bear, and mountain lions!

I thought they were afraid of people.

Not so much anymore. The ones around here don't run unless you shoot at them.

"Pit Bulls would EAT COYOTES"

You are correct. But only after the pit bull filled up on any children around.

They do real well hunting large mammels in packs.

Wikipedia

Coyotes will commonly work in teams when hunting large ungulates such as deer. Coyotes may take turns in baiting and pursuing the deer to exhaustion, or they may drive it towards a hidden member of the pack. When attacking large prey, coyotes attack from the rear and the flanks of their prey. Occasionally they also grab the neck and head, pulling the animal down to the ground. Coyotes are persistent hunters, with successful attacks sometimes lasting as much as 21 hours; even unsuccessful ones can continue more than 8 hours before the coyotes give up. Depth of snow can affect the likelihood of a successful kill. Packs of coyotes can bring down prey as large as adult elk, which usually weigh over 250 kg (550 lbs).

I wouldn't like to be on their menu. Glad the little girl is OK.

You know, here in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, there are LOTS of coyotes, and last Fall a rather small young woman on a well traveled trail in the Highland National Park was killed and partially eaten by at least 2 (probably more) coyotes - that are commonly accepted as a cross with Timber wolves. I’ve seen them and there is NO similarity with the western coyote on the plains of Alberta or BC. These are the size of German Shepherds!

After the death - which got a lot of publicity due to her being a rising singing star, the Dept of Nat. Resources (who deny there are wolves or Pumas here - and we have seen one of them too) dithered for weeks before recommending a hunt for the coyotes. Nothing has happened - that I am aware of - but THAT is Canada and green politically correct, sanctimonious supercilious and absurdly arrogant eastern Canadians.
