NRA Discourages Board Members From Testifying Against Kagan
Politics Daily ^ | JUne 27, 2010 | Matt Lewis

Posted on 06/28/2010 5:03:01 AM PDT by libstripper

On the eve of confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan -- and for the second time in two weeks -- the National Rifle Association (NRA) is under fire from conservatives. According to RedState's Erick Erickson, a prominent conservative blogger, "internal Senate emails confirmed by NRA Board Members show that the National Rifle Association's management team has explicitly and directly told the NRA's board they are prohibited from testifying about second amendment issues" during the Kagan hearings.

I have heard for years that the NRA was ultimately propped up by forces who wanted to create a weak organization to take up 2nd Amendment proponents and render the movement impotent.

The same guy was saying Greenpeace was ultimately funded similarly.

It makes people invest their money and passion in organization (or people in the case of politicians or talk shows) in something or someone that will not actually DO anything.

Looks like the NRA just proved this theory has some merit.

I wish I could remember the person saying all this...but he said it goes on all the time, and people would be surprised where the strings lead. Who knows..but if it is true the NRA is doing things like this...

"he is C or D rated....not an F....but they will not back him in the upcoming election."

I hope you're right. I checked their website and they do not have a current rating for him for 2010. In fact I did a search and had a hard time finding Pinky's NRA rating from his 2004 election. This is about the only thing I came up with.

http://www.pinellaspatriots.org/messages/boards/thread/9086028?thread=9086028

It's on the internet so take it for what it's worth. However, it does seem to line up with what I'm finding or not finding about Harry Reid and his NRA rating. It said he had a B rating in 2004 and no rating yet for this election which is a bad sign for him. I guess what people are up in arms about with him and the NRA is how he got a big article devoted to the opening of his gun park in Nevada. Everyone is assuming that the NRA is on his bandwagon. I hope they get on Sue Lowden's bandwagon. With her stance on other issues, it seems to me she has to have a good stance on the second amendment.

Vaquero,

Thanks for posting that. Have not gotten that e-mail yet from them. If this article is true, it would have really made me angry coming so close on the heels of the Disclose Act fiasco. I’m starting to think it’s stretching the truth trying to create a circular firing squad.

The NRA is like the GOP.

We are stuck with it. Its the only game in town right now.

THe solution is to do what the Tea Party People are doing with the GOP. INFILTRATE IT.

If you are not a member, JOIN IT.

Then vote for people who will represent YOUR views on these subjects and vote to OUST the Libs.

I had just sent them money for the UN gun grab. Now I find out they support Reid, Kagan and the Disclose Act.
As my membership is coming due I will find another organization more in line with my thinking.

The NRA is going to start falling apart.

Yes, because someone finally took a case to the supreme court and won! The NRA is scared to death of the court finally coming to its senses, and declaring that the 2nd amendment needs to be taken as seriously as the 1st. Their reason to exist will cease, and they'd have to go back to just doing finarms education.

Speaking of which, I heard the decision on the chicago case was supposed to be released by the court today.

Sounds like the NRA needs its own Tea Party. Clean house at the next convention, throw all the bums out and start over again, focusing on what matters instead of selling out to the power structure in Washington.

I would like to add that in the States that gained concealed carry the NRA was absent in most cases. The PEOPLE of each State did their own leg work and did great. I live in Colorado and many here were instrumental in 2nd amendment issues and without the NRA involved. We do not need the NRA selling out our rights just to give us scraps and then lay claim to feeding us. Exercising our rights to keep and bear arms is what works, not membership in some sort of political action group.

So, this was the deal the NRA made for their exemption in the DISCLOSE Act....

Yep, I think you're right. They get the exemption in exchange for tacitly endorsing Kagan. barf-o-rama.

How long ago was it that they sold their souls to the devil?
Seems like it happened right after the 08 election.

I am doing some research and will get back to you with the whole truth on this when I can.

as Reid will rubber stamp anything that zerObama wants, I cant see how the NRA can back him in the general.

like I said I have put out my feelers to Nevada members and will get back to you.

I’ve been a life member for many years. I have assumed (silly me) that the NRA leadership is still pro-gun, pro-Constitution, pro-conservative and pro- America, thus I have not been actively involved for some time in the inner-workings of the NRA; but, that’s gonna change now.
