Posted on 07/01/2010 3:43:51 PM PDT by bobsunshine
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday officially overturned a 16-year-old Texas air permitting program it says violates the Clean Air Act, leaving some of the country's largest refineries in a state of limbo.
The move comes after years of backdoor bickering, negotiations and public arguments between the EPA and Texas. The argument recently escalated from a battle over environmental issues into a heated political dispute over states' rights.
Gov. Rick Perry has been using it to drive home his contention that President Barack Obama's administration is overreaching, saying in a statement Wednesday that "Texas will continue to fight this federal takeover of a successful state program."
The EPA's decision, announced in a statement, will force some 125 refineries and petrochemical plants to invest millions of dollars to get new permits. Many of the plants may also have to invest in updates to comply with federal regulations.

These commies are doing as much as they can to damage the Red States before Nov.
Another shakedown, eh?
I wish that we could just cease sales of petroleum products to the Blue states.
The EPA is a criminal entity under this lamearse Jack Squat admninistration and I would encourage multiple levels of criminal investigations into the EPA and members of this Jack Squat idiot-ridden administration. Bet.
Texas better hurry up and get this before the Supreme Court before Kagan is sworn in!
Texas should designate all petroleum products as “not for export” outside the state and tell the EPA to shove it.
Tell the EPA to piss off, what are they goin to do about it?
Each day I think I could not hate these b@stards anymore than I already do and each day they prove me wrong.
The last I heard, the State Attorney General was going to haul the EPA into court over this.
“Texas will continue to fight this federal takeover of a successful state program”
This is what’s REALLY happening here guys:
I don’t care for EPA thuggery either. But RINO Rick is more interested in protecting the turf of his big bidness contributors, who could be really harmed by the EPA decrees.
Why hasn’t ol Rick endorsed SB1070. Same reason as above. Because it threatens the sacred cow profits of his wealthy backers. Illegals are a gravy train.
This WILL be Ricks LAST term. Texas conservatives are tired of his RINO A$$.
If the commerce clause covers a farmer growing grain to feed his own animals it will probably cover that too.
It’s going to be a long hot summer around the USA.
Another deliberate attempt to destroy the energy sector in this country and turn the US into a third world Sh*thole by the Obama administration.
Say "free" not "red".
The red commies in the media have you parroting their propaganda that the socialist states are "blue".
I guess it will take an RNC Chairman that isn't retarded to make that point.
You’ll be voting for Bill White, then?
No, the Marxist-in-chief wants to destroy this nation utterly. Once this nation lies in complete ruin, he fancies that he will be made dictator-for-life by the same worthless welfare parasites that brought about the destruction in the first place.
Bet it would win in the Supreme Court under the States Rights clause.
I have a better idea. How about we just get it overwith and secede already?
Will this be our Ft. Sumter moment? Please, yes, O please let it be so!
Have we hit $10 a gallon yet?
Makes no difference. The 2007 SCOTUS decision on new source revue was 9-0.
Can we have $5.00 gas by November, PLEASE?
Let’s do it! The Texas declaration of independence! Remember the Bozo!
Perry needs to tell the EPA to pound sand.
There’s a first time for everything. And it’s about time for that.
Looks like Abbott will have to file another lawsuit against the EPA and stop more BS from this illegal administration...
Our idiots in Washington have, again, hit a killer bee hive with a baseball bat. The results in November are not going to look pretty for them.
Like, Spktyr, I also would like to know. Are you voting for Bill White?
I can not tell you how many times those exact words run through my mind.
Frankly, it’s making me sick.
Nope. I’m going to hold my nose and vote for Rick Perry, since the rational alternatives are worse.
Governor isn't the only race on the ballot. Many of us who are fed up with RINOs and will refrain from voting in those races in the general elections.
There will be other candidates worth voting for as well as ballot measures.
Ricardo Perry can go to hell, I'll just skip that race, and will cheerfully continue skipping until the GOP finally gets with the program, or a serious conservative party emerges.
Actually with LA shut down too...it is 50%.
Here too. There just HAS to be someone better than Perry or Hutchison. Bill White is not an option....
Keep it up!! That’s all I can say.
In the not so far future, a bean counter at the EPA (in Washington DC), will get a letter from a factory manager in Texas saying something to the effect:
“With all due respect, we are governed by the laws of the State of Texas. Please address all correspondence to: State of Texas, Department of Environmental Protection”
...and so begins the long road to independence.
Alert! The EPA has determined that breathing plain old air wheather fresh or stale is a hazard to earth’s population. Stop breathing for 2-3 days, Liberals first!!!
You all read about this a while back, well guess what...they did it.
I hope everyone realizes this is nationalization American style now. If they can go in and overthrow a State Agency...they can do it anywhere, any state, any agency. No court order needed. Have a rebellious state...no problem confiscate their National Guard.
I said it about a month ago when I first posted about this it is precedent setting.
This is Nationalization American Style.
Cornyn has been trying to make nice and sound reasonable about Kagan. He’ll probably still fold...but what if this infuriates him? What if it stiffens his spine, and puts a little fight into him? I realize that’s not the Republican way, but it’s all speculation anyhow. I am dreaming, I guess, but I would love for this to backfire Big Time in Obama’s face. Figuratively speaking.
Perry is much better than White. I just can’t see myself helping the ‘Rat get elected. Getting better candidates are what the primaries are for.
It’s people like you that helped to get Obama elected and hand the democrat marxists complete control of congress. Thanks alot. This is not the time to ‘send a message’...our entire country’s future is at stake. Join a Tea Party or something..and make your wishes known.Staying home or voting for a third party is just going to hand the marxists more power...or is that your REAL agenda here?
The minute Texas does... I move back to Texas.
I really don't give a shid what you think. I've spent a lifetime supporting the GOP and getting screwed by them. I'm not voting for RINOs anymore, not ever.
The supreme court is reason alone to vote for anyone but zero in 2012.
Okay. It is time now?
