Uncle Sam Wants You to Have an Online ID
Fox News Business ^ | July 02, 2010 | Jay Bavisi co-founder of the EC-Council

As our daily interactions and transactions have become increasingly “wired,” we have yet to see any truly comprehensive attempts at securing online identities.

Our complex system of usernames and passwords is astoundingly outdated and increasingly prone to security breaches and theft. Yet, so far it has been mostly up to the individual to protect himself against various forms of identity fraud—with larger corporations taking relatively little responsibility.

But this could change in a big way. Right now the federal government is proposing a new system being referred to as the “Identity Ecosystem”—which was highlighted in the recently-released draft paper, “National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace” [NSTIC].

The Identity Ecosystem would allow Americans to choose to obtain a single authenticated ID for online transactions. Like a passport, this single ID could travel with them online and be used to access everything from e-mail, to online health records and banking information. Furthermore, the Identity Ecosystem would only reveal the least amount of information necessary for each transaction.

To highlight the potential consumer benefits of such a system, the White House’s proposal uses the example of an individual filling a prescription online. Under the “smart ID card,” the pharmacy would only receive proof that the individual is over 18 and that the prescription is valid. No other information like birth date or the reason for the prescription.

Your challenging ideas will be NO MORE!

That's the hidden beauty of it.

Just as there are keyword search for your phone conversations and e-mails - NOW they will have you nailed for anything else you author!

It's ALL about controlling what you say ... recall how freedom of speech may need limitations ... it will no longer depend on your “motivation”.

Who was it that said freedom of speech may need BOUDANRIES and that it will depend on the MOTIVATION behind the free speech? This was recent.

You want an real life example...heavens we need to stay up with the rest of the world on this stuff!

India to capture 1.2 billion population in new digital census

Authorities insist that the NPR plan, which involves issuing universal ID cards to all residents by 2013, will help check embezzlement of government funds.

The project, said Chandramouli, was originally envisaged almost a decade ago. But the terror attack on the Indian financial capital of Mumbai in 2008 led authorities to expedite it, with trials on for over a year now in more than 3,000 coastal villages of the country, he added.

In India, illegal immigration from Bangladesh has been an issue of serious concern for over decades. Border guards of both neighboring nations have also set up an institutional framework to discuss illegitimate cross-border movements, according to India's external affairs ministry.

For India, the new ID scheme can also be a potential means to detect illegal aliens living in the country.

It is my CHOICE if *I* decide to give them that inexchange for “free speech” as long as I am not offesive - swear words etc.. I have no problem with that and I dare say Fox is not nearly as powerful as our government.

“SO THEY CAN TAX THEM!”

Well, that is one of the top two. The other would be removing your First Amendment rights, and if you don’t comply, they’ll know where to go to remove YOU.

This is way more ominous than any Nanny State concerns.

Be very afraid!

FR does the same thing and I have NO problem with that.

I am grateful to FR to have the opportunity to voice my concerns. FR owns the site as Fox owns theirs. Neither compare to government intrusion.

SO THEY CAN TAX THEM!

This IS the real reason.....

.....They want to be able to tax everything you do,everywhere you go, anytime you do it.

Couple this with cashless money (as in just a number account they can draw directly from), and National ID (which this is just another attempt at implementing), and we will be financial serfs.

We will all be peasants taxed to death and threatened with financial ruin if we dare speak out.

Nah. There’s a a very good reason for that, and it has nothing to do with your privacy. If there wasn’t a email validation procedure, their comments section would be overwhelmed by spam.

The process has been in effect for well over a decade. I wouldn’t worry about that one.

What a great idea! And they can tattoo it on your forehead or wrist so you'll never lose it!

Can you imagine how much Halidol the DUmmies would've had start popping if Dubya proposed this? For that matter, has Il Douche considered the fact that sooner or later, this system will be in the hands of a Republican administration? (Or maybe he doesn't plan for there to be any more administration changes...)

From the article...The income-tax department through PAN (permanent account number) to track income and expenses for the purpose of taxation.

This is about control of people and confiscation of their wealth.

They want to.....

.....Tax the income tracked by these identities.

.....Tax the expenses on things deemed undesirable like fast food, guns, fuel, energy tracked by these identities.

.....Tax the assets both liquid and real property tracked by these identities.

It's all featherbeds and flowers, floating on a land of wonderful.

Yet another attempt by our twisted Bureaucracy to make people wear helmets and knee pads. A fur-lined shock-collar to keep the People in the yard.

Spinach.
