The selective modesty of Barack Obama

By Charles Krauthammer Friday, July 9, 2010

Remember NASA? It once represented to the world the apogee of American scientific and technological achievement. Here is President Obama's vision of NASA's mission, as explained by administrator Charles Bolden: "One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math; he wanted me to expand our international relationships; and third and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science and math and engineering."

Why did you change the title of the column?

Do you know what rhetoric is? Do you understand the concept, and how it works? Also: you changed the title that is on this article at the link. This messes up our forum.

+1 on both. It's a good article and Charles is far from being an idiot . . . and like it or not, this is "Obama's country" just as it is every American's country.

The Problem is, he, like most liberals, hate this nation as it has existed and blame it for all the ills of the world . . . hence the "change" theme.

I read “1984” by Orwell in Highschool. I was horrified.

Right now what is going on in this country since 2008 is like reading a paragraph a day in a fictional work (that really couldn’t happen) describing the destruction of the USA.

This can’t be REAL! And it is.

...and like it or not, this is "Obama's country" just as it is every American's country.

Well, some would take issue with that (as far as American being "Obama's country" that is...) :)

Ok, I'll bite. What contributions would those be? The "science" of oppressing the people dumb enough to fall for Mohammad's cult? The "math" required to figure out how many people they have subjugated and forced to live in a 7th Century world? The "engineering" required to behead innocent people on the Internet or stone innocent women for . . . . . . . being women???

And, most important, notice the emphasis on making them "feel good". It's old-time Democrat politics - no substance, just "feelings" (cue music).

If we manage to field a conservative majority in both houses of Congress this fall, I hope the SECOND thing they do (after repealing Obamacare - FOREVER!!), is defunding NASA until they can figure out how to stop making Muslims "feel good" and get America back to the business of space exploration!!

“Why are conservatives so stupid?”

Your remark is stupid.

Whether or not zero is an American Citizen is not the point. The fact that he was elected to the office he holds makes this his country, like it or not. I personally don't like it one bit, but that's not where Krauthammer is coming from.
“yet not of his own country's.” is referring to the country he's president of, not where he may have been born.

Show me a more intelligent Liberal Journalist if you can find any with intelligence.

Batman getting old, has recurring bouts of chronic insomnia.

Could always be worse, though. Aquaman likes to tart himself up in a crude, homemade Carmen Miranda costume and belt out Broadway show tunes, late at night. SuperFriends had to shell out a small fortune to keep Drudge from breaking that story. ;)

Any Conservative majority will have its work cut out. Rehabilitating America will be the first order of business.

If Liberals object, we can remind them of OUR patience for the past few years! If we can sit still for ‘changes’ so can THEY!

Rules aside,

Boo’s title is better than Krauthammer’s was.

I had to read it about halfway through to see what he was getting at with his original title.

Krauthammer actually gets paid to write about what we already know. What a great gig he’s got.
A long article just to tell us that Obama thinks highly of himself and doesn’t think so highly about America. What a wizard!

Absolutley. Liberal idiots, all of them.
