Stephen Broden for TX 30 (the pastor on Glenn Beck)--Dallas area

Have seen this reverent, insightful and patriotic man on Beck several times, on tonight's show. I didn't know he was running for office! Please, Dallas freepers, tell me more about him.

I’ve met Pastor Broden at several events around the Dallas area and he is a good man and a conservative. He deserves our support. Please help if you can.

I haven’t met him in person, but Pastor Broden was co-host of a radio show for a while (not exactly like Michael Steele), and I’ve exchanged e-mails with him. He’s a fine person with a clear vision, and I believe he can win against Johnson.

The district was gerrymandered alright, but it was gerrymandered by patronizing ‘Rats who believe that all Blacks will always be DemocRats. Well, Pastor Broden is proving that to be wrong already.

I’m sure the national ‘Rat party will dump money into Johnson’s campaign at some point, or their proxies will, but I don’t know if Pastor Broden will get the same level of support. That’s my main worry. But he can definitely win.

One thing that is going to help him tremendously is the fact that this is an off-year election. B. Hussein Obama in NOT on the ballot. Blacks will not turn out in '10 like they did in '08.

Does anyone know the demographics of this District; specifically Black/White ratio of voters?

Confined to Dallas County, the 30th stretches from Dallas Love Field southeast into downtown Dallas. It then dips south to take in some suburbs, such as Lancaster, where many black families have relocated after leaving the city. Black residents account for 41 percent of the population — the highest percentage in any Texas district — and 34 percent of residents are Hispanic.

Love Field, an alternative to the large Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (in the 24th and 26th), is a hub for Southwest Airlines, a low-cost airline whose headquarters are in the 30th. Federal restrictions on flight patterns and regional-only service are expected to completely phase out by 2014, and carrier American Airlines anticipates returning to Love Field in 2013. The airport is also undergoing a capital improvement project worth more than $500 million that is expected to double passenger traffic. Expansion at the airport, combined with a growing population, has made road congestion and air pollution concerns for the area.

Although only a slight majority of district residents hold white-collar jobs, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is a banking, high-tech and transportation center. The district is home to several Fortune 500 firms, although national economic downturns have hurt several local companies. Downtown Dallas attracts visitors to the American Airlines Center, home to basketball’s Mavericks and hockey’s Stars, although the historic Cotton Bowl hosted its last namesake college football game in 2009. Dallas plans to develop a five-acre urban park and pedestrian paths connecting Uptown and Downtown Dallas.

Democrats run particularly well in the heavily black precincts just south of Illinois Avenue, and in largely Hispanic precincts near Love Field. In 2008, the 30th — the only Democratic district in the Dallas-Fort Worth area — gave Barack Obama 82 percent of its presidential vote, his highest percentage statewide.

IMO, Pastor Broden has a 50/50 shot. Lots of Dems in District 30 are not too happy about how things are going right now.

I may be overly optimistic, but he has a pretty good following and a lot of good people working for him.

Pray for him, send a few dollars if you can afford it, or make some calls, or knock doors if you’re in the area.

It would be great to see Eddie Bernice Johnson defeated.

Eddie Bernice Johnson is the most useless member from Texas and has had a safe seat. So safe, in fact, that the money she received for re-election, she always passed on to other candidates, as if it would be too much of a bother to order yard signs.
