Margaret Thatcher's family are 'appalled' at Meryl Streep film

Although the prospect of Meryl Streep playing Margaret Thatcher may have pleased some admirers of the Conservative former prime minister, her children have been horrified to discover more about the film. Mandrake hears that the screenplay of The Iron Lady depicts Baroness Thatcher as an elderly dementia-sufferer looking back on her career with sadness. She is shown talking to herself and unaware that her husband, Sir Denis Thatcher, has died. Fiennes family home for sale“Sir Mark and Carol are appalled at what they have learnt about the film,” says a friend of the family. “They think it sounds like some Left-wing fantasy. They feel strongly about it, but will not speak publicly for fear of giving it more publicity." Cameron McCracken, the managing director of the film-maker Pathé, confirms: "It is true that the film is set in the recent past and that Baroness Thatcher does look back on both the triumphs and the lows of her extraordinary career. "It is a film about power and the price that is paid for power. In that sense, it is the story of every person who has ever had to balance their private life with their public career." He says Lady Thatcher's health will be featured, but insists that it will be “treated with appropriate sensitivity”. He adds of the film: “Although fictional, it will be fair and accurate.”

Anytime leftist kooks make a “movie” about a conservative, you can guarantee that it will be nothing more that pure bull****.

"Well, surprise surprise. Another leftist rewriting history."

I'm not sure how conservatives fight this - we have two very powerful and ubiquitous forces working against us at all times - education (at virtually every level), and the media to include both journalists and Hollywood.

I can't think of a single political biopic that has been fair to conservatives or history. I watched John Adams a couple years ago on HBO - it was horrific. Cinderella Man, a movie about a devoutly Catholic boxer during the depression, all but ignored his faith - the most fundamental element of his life, and a thread woven into every decision the man made, yet it was entirely ignored by the director, Ron Howard.

The few - and I mean minuscule - conservative "movies" that are made every few years, usually are horrible - horrible writing, horrible acting (because no named actor will participate) and horrible production values. The one exception is Passion of the Christ, and look at the grief Mel Gibson took for that. That movie - and its liberal backlash - is what I believe to be at the root of his problems today and his relapse into alcoholism.

It's virtually impossible to be a conservative in Hollywood, and it really hurts us.

“And I will bet that there is a sizble number of the population who don’t even know who Margaret Thatcher is. That concerns me.”

A majority of people think Oliver Stone presented the truth about the JFK assassination.

After seeing this hit-piece film about Margaret Thatcher, people will wonder why the UK gives her the first state funeral for a Prime Minister since Winston Churchill’s. It’s all so confusing to the gullible sheeple.

Sounds like time to use the insane British libel law for a good cause for once.

It is so wacky a law, that it has resulted in “libel tourism”, of foreigners traveling to England so they can sue another foreigner, all because of the tiniest association with England.

Unlike a sane law, the truth is *not* a defense against a libel suit in England. All that matters is that you feel “offended” by being written about.

A Saudi terrorist financier successfully sued an author for identifying him as a terrorist financier. It was totally true, but he did not like seeing it in print. And some small number of the authors books were sold in England, which was all the excuse that was needed.

So Baronness Thatcher and her family should be able to sue the producers of this movie for every penny they might earn in England and then some.

Surprised? Appalled? Some people deserve the shock they get.

I just think it’s FUNNY how they call US the ‘party of no’..

Seems ALL Hollywood can do is to make films TRASHING conservatives, Christians, Republicans, etc...

THEY aren’t ‘FOR’ anything - but tearing down.

It would be interesting and enlightening if you would expand on your remark and clue us in to whom it applies.

They think it sounds like some Left-wing fantasy.

Postmodernistic libtards believe that opinions and beliefs are fictions in the sense that they are stories we have been told by our society. These stories do not correspond to reality or anything objective or true because there is no objectivity, truth, or reality, and stories can vary from culture to culture and over time.So they don't care if they tell lies.

In the UK Mrs Thatcher stopped the free daily milk ration given to every child at school - a leftover from the war.

We were all taught to shout “Margaret Thatcher Milk Snatcher”

That was her first run-in with the British electorate.

Sadly I understand that Lady Thatcher is now suffering with some form of dementia.

Nothing would get me to see this film, she deserves better but is unlikely to get it - she is hated by the left and marginalized by the right in the UK that she saved from the full force of socialism.

Sad.

The left in this country seems to have a strange, sick obsession with Thatcher. My daughter's civics teacher last semester was always trashing her - I thought obsessing over a foreign leader was a bit odd until considering what she did to the social welfare structure over there.

The piggies at the trough here are smart enough to see Thatcher's mindset as a grave threat to their livelihood.

Reminds me of how I feel when I see one of those History Channel or A&E dissertations on Biblical archaeology or King David or Jesus the Christ (expounded upon by a panel of experts who believe not a word of it). What is their point? What is the point of the Thatcher hitpiece? I think we know the answer to both. It is to discredit.

I do find it odd that some of the people who post here don’t seem to have political awareness — it’s as if they are living in a Hallmark greeting card.

“Although fictional, it will be fair and accurate.”

Compare that with contemporary news media, where the information presented is fair and accurate, but fictional.

Unfortunately I don’t think there’s any quick fix. The left marched through our institutions and now it’s paying off for them. They can basically make these kinds of movies with impunity and without even any competition. Fixing things is going to take changing the basic culture of the movie industry, which would be a huge effort, practically a revolution in itself, or at least building up a credible counterculture.

Re Mel Gibson, I think rather than the Passion of the Christ, the model should be his Apocalypto, which had a subtle but very powerful pro-Western-civilization message embedded in it. He made the arrival of the Spanish galleons at the very end a happy ending, contrary to all Hollywood conventions.

"We were all taught to shout “Margaret Thatcher Milk Snatcher”"

Interestingly enough, we were taught that Reagan wanted to substitute ketchup for vegetables in children's school lunches. Evidently, the left doesn't possess an original thought - it just rehashes old ideas.

Thank you for the information. As I said, I had no idea that the left's antipathy for her went that far back.

Is this the same Meryl Streep, the renowned scientific expert and medical doctor, who testified before Congress during the Alar Apple Scare because she had played a farmer's wife or something in one of her films?

The environwhackos (of which Streep is one) damn near ruined an entire industry in the contrived panic they induced over Alar, a harmless but useful substance used in specified amounts to increase yield.

But, to be fair like Bill O'Reilly, there's no telling how many lives Meryl and her addled cohourts saved by getting parents to keep their children from eating over 50,000 pounds of Alar-sprayed apples a day, the point the spray ingested would start effecting the kiddlies little tummies.

Meryl Streep is not worthy enough to play Lady Thatcher's shadow on a London Street. Some day, the equally-worthless leftist fanatic, Susan Saranwrap, will be cast to play Sarah Palin and Ed Asner to play the First Dude.

Don't you just love Hollyweird....the marxist entity which continuously grabs YOUR dollars it collects through cinemas across the fruited plain in return for the garbage and propaganda it sends to YOU?

Such a deal!

Is she deceased? You seem to be saying so. I don’t know one way or the other. I guess if you are saying that she had the first state funeral since Winston Churchill I guess she is.
