"Well, surprise surprise. Another leftist rewriting history."

I'm not sure how conservatives fight this - we have two very powerful and ubiquitous forces working against us at all times - education (at virtually every level), and the media to include both journalists and Hollywood.

I can't think of a single political biopic that has been fair to conservatives or history. I watched John Adams a couple years ago on HBO - it was horrific. Cinderella Man, a movie about a devoutly Catholic boxer during the depression, all but ignored his faith - the most fundamental element of his life, and a thread woven into every decision the man made, yet it was entirely ignored by the director, Ron Howard.

The few - and I mean minuscule - conservative "movies" that are made every few years, usually are horrible - horrible writing, horrible acting (because no named actor will participate) and horrible production values. The one exception is Passion of the Christ, and look at the grief Mel Gibson took for that. That movie - and its liberal backlash - is what I believe to be at the root of his problems today and his relapse into alcoholism.

It's virtually impossible to be a conservative in Hollywood, and it really hurts us.

Unfortunately I don’t think there’s any quick fix. The left marched through our institutions and now it’s paying off for them. They can basically make these kinds of movies with impunity and without even any competition. Fixing things is going to take changing the basic culture of the movie industry, which would be a huge effort, practically a revolution in itself, or at least building up a credible counterculture.

Re Mel Gibson, I think rather than the Passion of the Christ, the model should be his Apocalypto, which had a subtle but very powerful pro-Western-civilization message embedded in it. He made the arrival of the Spanish galleons at the very end a happy ending, contrary to all Hollywood conventions.

I am a competent filmmaker with a trunk full of great scripts that present the supreme value of Western Civilization (you know, that horrible philosophy under attack from all sides). And it’s really hard to get any of ‘em off the ground.

I know, only suckers beef.

But it sure is frustrating...

John Adams on HBO was highly acclaimed by just about everyone. What didn’t you like?
