Immigrant Deaths in Arizona Desert Soaring in July

PHOENIX -- The number of deaths among illegal immigrants crossing the Arizona desert from Mexico is soaring so high this month that the medical examiner's office that handles the bodies is using a refrigerated truck to store some of them, the chief examiner said Friday.

The bodies of 40 illegal immigrants have been brought to the office of Pima County Medical Examiner Dr. Bruce Parks since July 1. At that rate, Parks said the deaths could top the single-month record of 68 in July 2005 since his office began tracking them in 2000.

"Right now, at the halfway point of the month, to have so many is just a very bad sign," he said. "It's definitely on course to perhaps be the deadliest month of all time."

From Jan. 1 to July 15, the office has handled the bodies of 134 illegal immigrants, up from 93 at the same time last year and 102 in 2008. In 2007, when the office recorded the highest annual deaths of illegal immigrants, 140 bodies had been taken there through July 15.

Parks said his office, which handles immigrant bodies from three counties, is currently storing roughly 250 bodies and had to start using a refrigerated truck because of the increase in immigrant deaths this month.

that question, why so many want to leave mexico, does not fit the agenda of the left

mexico is not without resources. I believe its’ GDP puts it in top 15 countries in the world. The fact that it is so corrupt is NOT our problem.

I get tired of the argument tht it is only an accident of birth that makes us Americans and if we had been born in mexico we’d do what ever it took to get out.
the same could be said for 30 other countries.
We are not the dumping ground for the world

Are there still water “towers” down there or have the ranchers taken them out? I remember when they were used for target practice.

I blame Obama for this. All his talk about immigration reform with its attendant granting of citizenship to illegals has got these folks all riled up and hustling to get into America before the cut-off date (whatever it may be).

You makes your choices, and you live (or die) by them. I, and my fellow citizens ARE NOT obligated to protect these people.

Amen. Justice was properly served.

``For the wages of sin is death...''. That paycheck was cashed by these illegals violating the law and stealing from our country.

Maybe Daddy NObama should run right down to Arizona and provide water bottles to the idiots who enter that searing hot desert.

My anecdotal observations are that the Sect. of Homeland Security is full of baloney. There was a lot more noticeable Border Patrol activity in the last two years of Bush’s presidency. It slowed down quite a bit after Obama took office. The National Guard troops that were here left. But maybe they’re working elsewhere on strengthening the border. haha

Sounds like a great plan to me, but you’re right. It’s not going to happen.

Instead Zer0 really ought to take a cue from another Democrat who stated:

``If any demonstrator ever lays down in front of my car, it'll be the last car he'll ever lay down in front of.''

Although a member of the wrong political party, George Corley Wallace was absolutely on target when it came to dealing with lawbreakers.
