OMG!
Guns?
What guns?
I sold all of mine at one of those “no questions asked buy-back sales”...
...it was many many years ago...
...can’t exactly remember when...
...but I took the money to a casino and lost it...
...wink wink nudge nudge.

>>Id say that the elderly are the LAST ones youd want to try to take a gun from.<<
Because ......when an older person decides they are unable or too tired to fight with you, they’ll just kill you.

I was thinking along other lines. Like they were raised in an era where people had SCRUPLES.
A man’s home, his possessions....were his. Until/if he decides to give them away.
Not only that, man, they’re freaking ORNERY!!! :)

Unfortunately, it isn’t. Spend a little time in South Florida. Families here tend to be fairly well aware of what their elderly parents are up to. There are elderly people who have lost the ability to deal with reality. Mostly, the children ignore the guns until a paid caregiver complains about grandma whipping out her old .38.
When this happens, the family can no longer ignore the problem. Grandma or grandpa is senile and armed. If the family loses the home healthcare, the parent goes to a nursing home. If they take away the guns, they must finally admit that their parent is no longer the responsible and mature adult that gave them life and raised them.
I’m in the middle of this now. Although my mother never owned firearms, it is not easy to accept the fact that she is no longer mentally competent to have one.
