Arizona Hotels Thriving Despite Boycotts Over Immigration Law

Arizona's tourism industry has a target on its back, but the widespread boycotts over the state's immigration law might not be hitting the mark.
Recent data compiled by a market research group show hotel bookings across the state -- as well as in tourism hot spots Phoenix and Scottsdale -- have been on the rise the past two months.
The numbers could dispel warnings from local officials that Arizona stands to lose a fortune and dampen the chances that cities and organizations will be able to compel the state to reverse its immigration law by choking its economy with a sanctions-style business boycott.
"Fundamentally, the boycotts have been unsuccessful," said Barry Broome, president of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council.
The data from hotel industry research firm STR showed that for the state of Arizona, hotel occupancy was up 5.7 percent in May and up 8.3 percent in June compared with the same time a year ago.

The illegals are leaving in droves. What’s not to like? They may even get more actual residents. Legal residents.
The quality of guests will be better too.
Remember the photo contrasts of inauguration day after and 9/12 day after?
Exactly!
Damn! They’re on to us.
The whole thing was just a ploy to get the Hollywood and Washington crowd to rent our hotel rooms.

Geez, boycotts don’t work? Don’t tell Bill O’Riely.
There is a guy a few blocks over I noticed, he has the rear window on his car painted with that window paint cheerleaders use, it reads: Boycott AZ NOW!
Now, my town has many Hispanics that live here. We have several Mexican restaurants and a very large Mexican grocery store, which has some great deals on fruit and vegetables. Both of these industries are very popular with white folks. On any given day, the Mexican restaurants and grocery store are probably half filled with Caucasian folks.
So, I was thinking (which usually gets me in trouble), I should plaster my car with “BOYCOTT ALL MEXICAN ESTABLISHMENTS UNTIL THE ILLEGALS ARE GONE!”
I haven’t done it, but I fancy the idea. My wife wouldn’t allow it, she would talk sense into me, reminding me we have 3 kids in the house, and the inherent dangers that actions like that can spark.
But I do wonder, would the Mexican community, those who are here legally, feel the pressure if we started to boycott their establishments? Would it be an effective means of protest? Or would those who raised such signs, be trotted of to the re-education / racial harmony gulags? At minimum, I am sure doing such a thing would bring myself to the local newspaper, which would proclaim me to be a racist, and destroy our business.
Is it getting to the point where opposing the liberal point of view creates inherent dangers to ones family? Both from the left and courts? It seems as if it may be at that point, because years ago I never would have worried about assaults on my family or my property for speaking my mind publicly. I never would have feared my own government prosecuting me over having the interest of my own nation at heart. I would have never thought my government would be more interested in protecting those who are here against the law, then they are of protecting me and my constitutional rights. I would have never thought that I would have to give nearly half of my earnings to my own government, so that they could educate, and provide a comfortable lifestyle to those who pay no homage or respect for my nation, my flag, and the laws that keep us safe.
But, here we are.

Then there are the hot air balloon rides, Apache Trail is awesome, Grand Canyon, Flagstaff is wonderful rejuvenated area to poke around in including one hotel that is haunted, tons of great golf courses, cool race track south of Phoenix, lots of casinos, mountain areas in the northeast that had 80 inches of snow last year, fishing, four wheeling through Box Canyon, great shopping, hiking and climbing, train rides, horseback riding, great Italian food. We love it and try to go there 2-3 times a year.
What is that thing in Lake Powell?
Some of them are undoubtedly coming to Colorado.

Just put “AMF” on your window, simpler and easier....
We plan to vacate there in two weeks. Love AZ.
In some parts of the country, opposing the liberal viewpoint will get you stabbed, beaten or otherwise killed. It is that bad.
Actually, a lot of the story is that many Arizonans decided to say “forget places that are protesting us” and decided to stay at home this year for vacation. There’s enough to explore here to keep one busy for years. Inexpensive and the people are as nice as I have ever met. As a destination for adventurers and explorers, this place is tough to beat.
GOOD!!!!
No one should boycott Arizona, the Hero State!!!! Arizona its people and its Governor, Jan Brewer, are the most effective opposition to the horrible obama agenda!!!!
And it’s a BEAUTIFUL state!!!! When the monsoon season is over, go see the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and Saguaro National Park near Tucson. Go birding in the San Pedro Valley in Cochise County (but heed the warning of illegals if you’re too close to the border). Eat the wonderful applies and other produce from Willcox, and eat the best Mexican food in the world in the Tucson area. Then there’s all those wonderful places in Northern Arizona. I could go on and on!!!!
This is great news. We are hoping to scrape together enough money to vacation there this Fall.
I sure wish GA would follow suit - one of the candidates for Gov here said that there are more illegal immigrants here than in AZ and drug gangs are a big problem in some areas that used to be pretty peaceful.
My husband is friends with several policemen around here and they are very frustrated with the system. Whenever they find illegals, they take them in and notify the INS, the INS does nothing and they end up being let go.
You’d be alienating your allies with that one. Texas, for example, has many “Hispanic” native Texans that are as American as anyone.
A better one would be “Boycott employers of illegals.”

Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona sunset.

Savor the beauty of the Arizona desert.

Great place to stay. Has a spa and several swimming pools.
Some rooms overlook Camelback Mountain. Great food.

I’m saving my vacation days for the fall, but some people I work with have been taking long weekends and taking advantage of the hotel deals in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Fountain Hills and Tubac. The golf is amazing, the resorts have beautiful spas, and a lot of them have them incredible water parks for the kids. Good for a “Stay-cation.”
what does AMF stand for?

Hey, LS! I just read “7 Events” while on vacation in Sedona. Terrific read!
We visited Yosemite & Death Valley on the way down, Walnut Canyon, Wupatki, the Petrified Forest, Painted Desert & Grand Canyon while there, & Monument Valley & Arches on the way home. What gorgeous country!
lol, I like it, but I’m not sure many folks would get it, heh
You mean to say you missed the most important site in Arizona, the Chandler childhood home of LS????
I KNEW I was missing something important!!! I’ll be sure to put it on the list for the next visit. ;-)
