True to its western heritage, Arizona has always been an "open carry" state when in comes to firearms.
Residents are free to strap on a sidearm, and, as long as the weapon is in view, walk around any place it is not illegal to have a weapon.
Anyone wanting to carry a concealed weapon, however, has had to complete and pass a concealed carry weapons class and submit an application to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. That all changes Thursday, when a new Arizona concealed carry law does away with the permit requirement.

Apparently, not to mine (MD) anytime soon!
Liberals will swoon.
Which state will be next to go to Constitutional concealed carry?
I live in maryland too and I am also a bit jealous of Arizona. We cannot even get a carry permit here unless you know someone really well, and have the juice.
Excellent. I hope more states go this route, Virginia next.
you could always try open carry in your state, get arrested and challenge the law...
it is our right to keep and BEAR arms.
It’s already established case law nationally that an anonymous “man with a gun” call is not PC or RAS to even request an ID, let alone detain someone, absent other criminal activity afoot.
If Scott Walker is elected governor in Wisconsin...maybe!
“Which state will be next to go to Constitutional concealed carry?”
It’ll be a couple of years, but I’d expect Virginia to be at the top of the list. In the meantime we’ll need to demonstrate, for the 2,436th time, that allowing law adiding citizens to carry firearms will not result in “blood running in the streets.”
I won’t like open carry, I don’t like the attention and all that it brings with it.
Now that’s what I call progress.
Sorry, take out the first like.
I think this could catch on in Colorado, at least in the current environment. Time to get grass roots organizations advocating for this....
“I wont like open carry, I dont like the attention and all that it brings with it.”
Ever tried it? My experience has been that the vast majority of people don’t even notice.
I hope NM follows Arizona’s example. Maybe we can start things in the right direction come November.
Liberals will swoon.

They are already pulling their hair out just thinking about it. Would they say “that’s unconstitutional”? sarc.
I remember some years ago when I was getting ready to move to Arizona for a job I’d taken, the wife and I were there scoping things out. We were sitting in a roadside diner somewhere, when a 3 or 4 guys pulled up in a pickup truck, got out and started for the door. I noticed they were all wearing pistols on their hips, and for a brief moment thought we were all in trouble. But they came in, sat down, and ordered breakfast...and nobody in the place batted an eyelash. I can’t wait to move back there!
And win a prize for any brick shot out of the air in mid flight.
Just once, and I felt very uncomfortable. All it took was one kid to mention something out loud, and my wife wouldn’t walk anywhere near me. To me, it’s not worth it. I used to have a carry permit in FL, but my current job prevents me from taking a weapon to work, and I don’t like being in more databases then needed.

The Constitution is now recognized in one more state!!!
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Same here in NJ... this state sucks when it comes to corruption and the 2A. Waiting for lawsuits to permeate through the system. We need to clean house and get conservatives in office.
We have a right to defend ourselves!!
I do when I’m out in the woods also. I thought you meant everyday, in town.
A porr or ordinary citizen will get steam-rollered by the corrupt system now in place. If you NEED to continue going to work every day to pay your bills and support your family, don't want your spouse and children, perhaps even parents and friends scrutinized and questioned, trying to force the corrupt officials is a quixotic quest.
You just might become the most honorable person in prison.
I'm not not brave, nor have the years to spare.
Hell, a hunting buddy and I were headed out last fall and stopped for coffee at a well-known Seattle based shop. Dressed head to toe in cammo, .38 on his belt, huge hunting knife on mine, and none of the kids behind the counter even batted an eye. We even got into a brief conversation about hunting with one of the guys...he was headed out the following weekend.
I love Idaho! Even our Generation.commers have their heads screwed on straight.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
I pray this is true here in Texas.
Different areas, different folks.
We NEED this in Maryland- the violent crime magnet state. They don’t even incarcerate the criminals after they’re caught- winess the horrible stabbing murder in Baltimore on Sunday. Gadzooks-! Let us DEFEND ourselves-!!!
Huh? Anyone in MD who CCW's with the intent to do harm already does so in defiance of the law you have now. This would just allow you to gain equal footing if you want to. If you're worried about an increase in accidental or impulsive shootings, it hasn't been a problem in AK which has had this for 10 years or so, nor in VT which has had it forever AFAIK.
only legal residents may carry....
now there is a law suit conundrum for leftists.
Oh, sorry, misread your post as meaning more like “FORTUNATELY, not to mine anytime soon”. Note to self: no more posting before coffee.
“Just once, and I felt very uncomfortable. All it took was one kid to mention something out loud, and my wife wouldnt walk anywhere near me. “
Yeah. But it does become second nature over time. I’ve found that most adults don’t notice. Most of the encounters you have with adults, to the extent that you get them, are pure curiosity.
Kids on the other hand tend to verbalize what they see. A big smile and acknowledgement that you’re carrying a gun works pretty well with them and their parents.
I’m sure, but it just isn’t for me. I’ll wait and hope VA passes a similar law.
AKA “Vermont carry”?
“AKA Vermont carry?”
More like Alaska carry. Permits will still be available, but primarily for reciprocity purposes.
Not in this century, that's for sure!
My condolences. There are much better states in which to live, you know.
