Unmistakable signs of a warming world (pick it apart)

Scientific evidence that our world is warming is unmistakable has been released today in the ‘2009 State of the Climate’ report, issued by US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The report draws on data from 10 key climate indicators that all point to that same finding — the world is warming.

The 10 indicators of temperature have been compiled by the Met Office Hadley Centre, drawing on the work of more than 100 scientists from more than 20 institutions. They provide, in a one place, a snapshot of our world and spell out a single conclusion that the climate is unequivocally warming.

Relying on data from multiple sources, each indicator proved consistent with a warming world.

Who the hell was measuring sea-temperature in 1900? From where? What instruments did they have?

That might be right. Where I live, it’s been getting warmer since March!

It’s the end of July here in Austin, and we have YET to see a single day of 100 degree readings.

Yep, that damn global warming.

I’m so sick of this BS...everyone in the world knows this is a scam, except those over here who still think they can make money in it.

An important thing to note is how many times of late that someone has tried to re-start this AGW crap. We're back to the graphs, the so-called "scientists", etc...and all JUST IN TIME FOR THE CAP AND TRADE BILL RESURRECTION.

It's a hoax, which everyone except the brilliant elitists can see, but then, they are too busy groping their massage therapists to notice.

The Earth has been warming or cooling since it was formed. I do not trust the data presented here (way too many people with an agenda collecting and manipulating data and way too short of a time frame using consistent measurement methods - satellites, ice cores, temperature stations, tree rings, etc.)

So, I suspect that the Earth is changing temperatures based on natural processes that have been happening for eons, but I cannot trust the people who are telling me they are certain that it is heating up and that we are responsible for it.

I’m working on the winter wood, so I don’t want heat!

This is our home, not a vacation place, and I’ll take all the help I can get. Ten tons, or more, of wood to be cut, split, and stacked is necessary, but not a lot of fun. (Of course I can skip the gym thingy whilst on the road later, but that doesn’t make it easy or fun. Heat, 83 now, makes it worst...)

On the other hand, with all the work done, stacked wood everywhere, and the woodpile gone, that beer tastes damned good as I look down from the deck on the results of my work.

None of those charts go back far enough in history:

I just looked through the 200+ page report (downloadable at the link you provide.) There is no evidence anywhere in the report that the reported warming is human-caused. The closest they come to it is to claim that the last three decades have seen the biggest warming and that co-incides with increasing CO2 emission, but there is no evidence presented that either the warming or increase in CO2 is caused by man (the CO2 increase could be the result, not cause, of global warming.)

No comments from this silly report about the record cold in South America, eh?

Liberals are so stupidly transparent...and somehow people believe them.

One of the great mysteries of the universe.

It is urban heat islands that happen even in small villages. These 200 scientists claim urban heat islands do not exist.

Do you believe measurements of an accuracy of 1 part per thousand that cover 60 years and were provided by a government agency? If so than you will belive anything they tell you.

There is no snapshot of the world. What do they do? Go to the Moon and point a remote-sensing thermometer at the Earth? This is just a bunch of wackos.

Of course we’re responsible, there’s none mightier than man. Human’s are the be-all end-all. Just look around- it should be obvious. Beauty and Perfection wherever you look.

I would say that the melting of a mile-thick ice sheet that once covered most of the northern hemisphere is an unmistakable sign of global warming.

Yes, the earth has been on a warming trend since the little ice age. We are now near a peak in terms of the history put together by various direct measurements and proxies. The questions are:

(1) to what extent, if any, has man contributed to this warming trend, and

(2) is there a threshold which, if we pass through it, the earth would simply get hotter (or, is global temperate dynamically unstable outside of its recent range of variation).

The big problem with answering #1 is that there is no concensus explanation of natural variation. Is it due to variations in solar energy (as might be manifested in sun sports)? To variations in the earth’s core (as might be manifested in volcanic activity)? Or to other causes?

As originally propagated, AGW argued that the earth was in some kind of balance prior to man’s discovery of fire. Then, man screwed things up royally.

We now know this earth being in balance viewpoint is false. The current theory is that the earth has been warming up due to natural variation and we have caused it to warm up a bit more. The combination of these two things puts the earth at risk of passing a theoretical and unknown threshold level which, once passed, would result in uninhabitable conditions.

There is no scientific concensus concerning this scenario (and, I don’t think there could be). But, there’s no use to worrying about it, because there’s no getting around the fact that man is going to continue to pump more CO2 into the atmosphere during the next several decades (because all the industrial nations have pledged to do is cut back a bit on their emissions, and the non-industrial nations haven’t pledged any reduction and, in fact, are increasing their emissions faster than the industrial nations are cutting back).

So, we’re going to put the current version of AGW to the test and, I betting, it’ll be proved wrong. But, I recommend laying in a good store of non-perishables and alcohol (medicinal, of course), so as to enjoy however years we might have remaining on this planet.

Notice not one graph of SUNSPOT activity, current or past!

Considering our planet is heated by the SUN it would seem very important to them.
