Xenophobia Is Going To Hurt GOP In Future (Colossal and Gigantic Barf Alert!!!)
IBD Editorials ^ | July 29, 2010 | Leftwing lunatic EUGENE ROBINSON

Posted on 07/29/2010 5:48:34 PM PDT by Kaslin

Christmas came early for demagogues. The court decision putting a hold on the worst provisions of Arizona's new anti-Latino immigration law is a gift-wrapped present to those who delight in turning truth, justice and the American way into political liabilities.

As surely everyone knows by now, U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton issued a preliminary injunction Wednesday blocking the state from enforcing parts of the law that look patently unconstitutional. The political fallout is pretty clear: In the short run, at least, Republicans win and Democrats lose.

Longer term, the impact of the immigration issue on the major parties' prospects is the other way around. But the focus now is on winning in November, and the GOP is licking its chops.

Critics have another weapon to use against the Obama administration, because it was President Obama's Justice Department that filed suit against the Arizona law. Attorney General Eric Holder chose a relatively narrow argument: that the draconian measure was a blatant usurpation of the federal government's prerogative to establish and enforce immigration laws.

Bolton agreed, and she enjoined the parts of the measure that ventured onto federal turf. The Justice Department did not ask her to address the other big problem with the law, which is that it amounts to a prescription for racial profiling on a scale not seen in this country since the days of Jim Crow laws in the South. But Bolton went there anyway.

If local police are ordered to verify the immigration status of anyone they detain or question, there is a "substantial likelihood" that such an indiscriminate dragnet will sweep up legal resident aliens, foreign tourists with valid visas, and even U.S. citizens — in other words, anyone who looks kind of Mexican.

I work with a moderate democrat or two and they all support AZ and Jan Brewer.

Eugene Robinson is programmed. Nothing original comes from his “brain”

Eugene Robinson, the author of this column, is little more that a quota-filling, affirmative action recipient. Rarely has he ever written anything that went beyond "Blacks Good, Whites Bad". His crap has contributed mightily to the ever-disappearing readership numbers of the Washington Post.

In short, pay him no mind.

They will. They are denial that the Dem Party is now the party that “hates cracker babies’ and “whitey.”

The problem is it is Florida and the RINO GOP is as bad as NY. TX Rinos are just as bad.

How can anything original come from a bird brain?

Ironically, Conservatives champion the issues that truly benefit Blacks: Life, Vouchers, Jobs.

Maybe Eugene prefers abortion, poor education, and joblessness for those he identifies with.

I wonder how many unemployed Blacks have been displaced by illegal labor.

Oh I’d imagine that quite a few people in the GOP wouldn’t mind Xena hurting them... even now!

Illegal immigration is the issue that will decide the future of our nation. If we continue on the same path we will loose everything. This isn’t an issue to compromise on.

How does verifying immigration status of anyone questioned automatically lead to to an indiscriminate dragnet and roundup? Is this woman on a different planet?

With an admitted unemployment rate of 10%, probably more like 16%, do these libs really think Mexicans sneaking into the country waving Mexican flags and demanding their "rights" will help the regime in the upcoming election? You have to wonder what these people are smoking. Unless the GOP really screws the pooch here (McLame can do it) AZ, NM, TX are pretty much a lock in the next election.

Can anyone explain to me why this danger looms over “local police” but not federal officials? What’s the difference? Do they have super-secret-special sunglasses (powered by Science) that looks past skin color to uncover the illegality beneath? If I were to apply the liberals’ assumption that there can be no such thing as “reasonable suspicion” of illegal status without racial profiling fairly, immigration laws would be utterly unenforcable.

“How does verifying immigration status of anyone questioned automatically lead to to an indiscriminate dragnet and roundup?”

Remember that time you were thrown in jail, knocked out, and woke up on a gulag in the Mojave Desert just because you forgot to carry your license while driving? Yeah, that’s what’s gonna happen. Dragnets are inevitable whenever the authorities ask you to be able to identify yourself.

If local police are ordered to verify the driving status of anyone they detain or question at a traffic stop, there is a “substantial likelihood” that such an indiscriminate dragnet will sweep up legal drivers.

SO WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
