I keep wondering what part of the laughable “education” possessed by our progressives makes them think they’ve got the technical competence to change light bulbs - let alone try to direct the progress of our automotive industry.
It used to be “If you can’t do it, teach.”
Wasn’t true when it started, but it’s true now.
And it should have appended to it: “...and if you’re incapable of doing anything at all, become a public servant.”
So: What do you do with a vehicle that has carried you 100,000 miles and now has a dead battery that will cost you $10,000 dollars to replace.
Who would buy a used hybrid with a dead battery?
How many times will you have plugged in this POS every 40 miles to get to 100,000 miles.
Unaffordable at Any Speed: President Obama’s electric car subsidies are snobby and foolish
Snobby and foolish? I guess the liberals at Slate missed the obvious similarities between the Volt and the Odumba$$.
Wait until Obama orders all Federal fleets to purchase the Volt. Pelosi orders massive gas taxes (or the EPA does until Barry Stalin’s iron hand) and we have a Socialist/Communist victory!!!!!
The Limo Libs will never buy it without “EXTRAS”.
Like a gas engine.
“Snobby and foolish? I guess the liberals at Slate missed the obvious similarities between the Volt and the Odumba$$.”
True, buy funny at the same time.
So I wonder if Obama is going to drive one?
I am no Engineer, in fact I am not half smart, but whay could you just put a small Honda generator in the trunk to recharge the battery on this thing?
Why does it take a thousand engineers to figure out that this is essentially what they are doing? Only instead of the Generator costing $400 dollars it costs in the thousands.
Cause they’re gummint engineers?
Now, it is feasible to replace within a decade all our coal, natural gas & petroleum energy plants with non-CO2 emitting nuclear ones, and doing so would stop IIRC something like a third of our CO2 emissions.
It is laughable to think that electric cars (or anything else) can come anywhere close to doing so -- and this does not even take into account as to how the energy is going to be produced to keep them charged.
Yet the sheep keep believing the wolves telling them that this stuff makes a difference, whether it ever dawning on them that the wolves sure aren't acting like there is a crisis.
HUH???
It doesn’t suck, it’s just not viable economically. There is just no point in the subsidy. It doesn’t make the car a competitive choice, it just makes it cheaper for the same people that would buy it at 41K. Even after the subsidy, it’s still 10K more than a Malibu.
Yep. Not to mention all the union electricians that will be paid (off) to wire the adapter receptacles because this thing has a hybrid plug. Probably charge about a grand for each station but since they are union they will get it.
Tangent note, I got to speak with a brilliant gnome who noted that the whole hyrid thing has become a political statement. I never thought I would have heard this from a person of this caliber....
Volt = Union make worker project.
What did we pay to bail out GM?
This will require massive government bailouts/purchases to justify keeping these lazy union workers occupied and insured.
Sorry if there are are union workers on Freep. I don’t see why taxpayers have to subsidize unions. It should be unconstitutional.
The post office will try to do a purchase to replace the mail trucks. It will be Chevy Volt vs. the Ford Electrified "Transit Connect". If such a fantasy bid takes place from a practicality standpoint the Transit wins hands down.
Who in their right mind would buy a car that only gets forty miles on battery and then 350 miles on gas?
I remembered incorrectly. It's closer to two-thirds
