Anyone who thinks black people can't swim is nuts and needs to come see some of these teenagers butterfly.

No one said that blacks CAN'T swim but that many of them simply do not know how to swim and this is a fact. The reason? Most blacks are inner city kids and never have the chance to learn.

Well, we were several seconds apart, but agree on the terminology. In the parishes around me, it is not because they come from the inner city ... just the opposite. They are in the country where there are not programs that teach them to swim. Their parents can't swim either, so they don't teach them.

Oh yes, someone did say blacks can't swim...the word was used without immediate clarification...and there has even been an assertion on this thread that it might have something to do with blacks' BMI and center of gravity.

JADB has said that she didn't mean to use the word "can't" as "being incapable," that she rather meant that they didn't possess the skills required to swim due to not having been taught.

But it was said, and someone postulated on the physicality of black people. Hence my response.
