I believe that Yancredo says he’ll withdraw if the two Republicans running withdraw, claiming that they can’t win.
IOW, let's perpetually get RINOs. That's one perspective.
That is, if candidates know conservatives will go with the GOP anyway, then why would we expect the GOP not to just take our votes for granted and move to the left?
Demographics aren’t trending in our favor, I say we take whatever gains we can instead of all loss.
Its a matter of degree.
Hoffman was a better candidate, and had a shot at winning the race, esp. with GOP support.
Tancredo has no chance of winning AND spoils it for, admittedly, the GOP RINO.
My premise has since been reflected by The American Spectator and The national Review. I feel as if I’m in good company on this one.
I remember that. But them bastards had won the State Senate in 2000. So I guess however they did it wasn’t straight up legislature passes and Governor signs. Some statewide officers form a panel I think.
Well I wish they would call his bluff. But who would that leave to run?
There was that State Senator who dropped out of the race.
Here’s what happened. The RATs controlled the state senate in 2001 and the two houses couldn’t agree on a ridistricting plan, so the courts drew the maps (with an “equally divided” CO-07 that actually leaned a bit Democrat and placing all of Pueblo in the CO-03 to make it competitive for Democrats). After the GOP won complete control in 2002, the leg passed and Owens signed a redistricting plan that made the CO-07 more Republican and placed most of Pueblo in a safe GOP district to make the CO-03 safely Republican (Barone’s 2004 Almanac includes both the court-drawn map and the legislative map). Democrats sued, and the state supreme court ruled that the plan violated the state constitution because it provided that redistricting was done once a decade (ignoring the fact that the legislature had been unable to redistrict that decade, and that just 10 years earlier the MN legislature had approved a redistricting plan that superceded the court-drawn map used in 1992). So only TX was able to “re-redistrict” in 2004 to replace a court-drawn map. (GA re-redistricted in 2006, replacing a legislatively approved map, something that I don’t believe they should have been allowed to do, since it’s a horrible precedent that could be abused by state legislatures redrawing maps every 2 years to help the majority party.)
Yes. How could I forget all that intrigue.
As I recall now after Texas (fairly) did the re-do rats in Congress (Hoyer and probably Rahm) wanted......Illinois and New Mexico to gerrymander it mid-decade for the rats.
The GA change ultimately didn’t help us. (well it did but not enough, Marshall and Barrow survived by the skin of their asses)
Yes, the Democrats wanted IL and NM to re-redistrict as tit-for-tat, ignoring the fact that in CO and TX the state legislature had not taken a prior track at redistricting that decade, while in IL (and I believe in NM as well) the legislature had drawn the maps.
It's not a comparable situation. There, some county party hacks were trying to impose an unpopular candidate on the base. Here, you can argue nuance, but all three candidates are conservatives. So, the base is going to split, at least enough to let the Democrat win.
If another disaster in CO happens, Tancredo is the person to blame.
paid spoilers.
We're not all able to see the future. Please tell us who won that primary being held next week.
The two GOP candidates both have scandals and won't win...they should step aside.
Every day Scott McInnis and Dan Maes remain in the race is a day in favor of the Dems.
He has the LOWEST poll numbers. He should get out FIRST.
Followed by the next lower poll numbered candidate. I am sick of these egotistical, “me so important”, “fxxk the party”, reward the democRATs type of republicans.
Senate Minority Leader Conservative Josh Penry was begining to wage a very serious race for the Governor's job. But IMHO, Dick Wadhams, Scott McGinnis, Jane Norton and the PTB in Colorado Politics talked him into begging out. Here's the Denver Post article. Penry was given the financial plum of running Norton's campaign
Penry later also endorsed McGinnis for the governor's seat. A tactical quid pro quo that amounts to, "Josh, It's not your time yet. Wait. Work hard and someday we'll get you to a top spot."
Penry as Norton's Campaign chair has helped Norton run some vicious campaign ads against Tea Partier and Grass roots favorite for US Senate. Conservative Ken Buck. Buck's an attorney who can be a bit flip.
He and Norton are running against The Denver Post and Democrats Andrew Romanoff (former Speaker of the House)an anti-establishment underdog and Senator Michael Bennet *D*- Ritter. The winner of this primary will probably win the US Senate seat because of the damage at the top of the GOP ticket.
Scott McGinnis, is the establishment choice for Governor. It's his turn doncha know - but McGinnis is damaged goods. He is running against businessman Dan Maes who is a political neophyte who has made minor gaffes which are magnified by the diligent opposition liberal mainstream media.
Into this maelstrom steps Tom Tancredo. Not so much stepping with Rahm's ballet slippers but stomping with Ken Buck BS covered cowboy boots. All of this is then fueled by Tancredo devotee and BFF Peter Boyles who just happens to have three hours a day of KHOW radio to act as a supplement to Tancredo's campaign.
Tancredo and Boyles have been friends since before Tancredo went to congress and is a huge factor in Tancredo's electoral success. Can that translate statewide? I doubt it, but, Tancredo's bonifides concerning major Colorado problems; i.e. illegal immigration, sanctuary cities, etc. is well documented.
The result: Hickenlooper wins if Maes and/or McGinnis stay in the race. If they drop out? Tancredo could take Hickenlooper. I think Hick's the next gov. It will be Norton vs. Romanoff in the Senate race and if Jane's willing to play as tough against Andrew as she has against Ken she could be the next Colorado Senator. This will have the added benefit of denting the Dem coalition.
