Bush memoirs delayed, say friends

George W. Bush insisted that publication of his forthcoming memoirs, “Decision Points”, which will elaborate on 10 key decisions that the self-dubbed “Decider” took in office, be put back until after the midterm elections, according to people close to the former president.

Mr Bush has maintained a studious silence since leaving office and has declined, in sharp contrast to Dick Cheney, his former vice-president, to criticise Barack Obama, the US president, over the past 18 months.

According to friends of Mr Bush, he resisted plans by the publisher to launch the book in September, which is traditionally a better time to maximise sales.

His friends say that Mr Bush, whose two terms in office remain unpopular among most Americans, did not want to insert himself into the midterm election campaign, where Republicans are expected to make big gains. The book will be published on November 9, a week after the polls. Mr Bush will give his first full interview to NBC on November 8.

George W Bush will soon be one of the most admired Presidents....I think his delaying his book shows how selfless he is.

Once again, Bush shows that he is a guy with class.

Laura Bush is probably behind this.....she is a DEMOCRAT and no one will convince me of otherwise! She helped influence him to seem WEAK.

Perhaps true. My opinion of Laura Bush has taken a nosedive. No way would I ever buy her book.

I agree. He is a good man. But saying that in certain quarters here will get you flamed.

I doubt very much that this was delayed in order to help Democrats.

This release pre-election would probably be seen by Democrats as an excuse to bring Bush back as an election issue.

One can argue whether harping on Bush would help Democrats much if at all, but its best if its off the table.

Indeed...sacrificing possible sales to protect the obama agenda and the democratic majority up for election. Yep, he's one helluva prince.

Okay ... it’s not coming out in September.

What’s the new date? November ... with leaks in October?

I really hope nothing is published and nothing is leaked until after the mid-term elections. W owes that to all of us fighting for the survival of this nation and its laws not to turn attention away from the issues and onto him.

We’re many of the people who defended him against all odds for eight years. Delay in the release of the book and its prelaunch leaks would be a wonderful way for the former President to say “thank you”.

I’m very glad about that, don’t want anything distracting anyone from 11/2!

How do you figure delaying the release of his book protects Obama’s agenda? I don’t get that leap.

Don’t worry about flames. They only come out of the loud mouths of reptilian dragons.

George Bush — both of them — are fine and trustworthy men who love their country. I wish we had W back.

Sorry, but that is a stupid comment.

Releasing the book before the election would just draw attention to it and away from current issues. By delaying publication, Bush helps Republican candidates who already have a wealth of ammo to use against those currently in charge.

It’s a selfless act by a classy and gracious man, and totally in character.

GW was a great president. Flamers here are as immature and ungrateful as their allies on the left.
